Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Beautifully located in the heart of nature, this is the perfect base for visiting Sigiriya and the Lion Rock. The clean, comfortable room and refreshing little pool made our stay so relaxing. Our lovely host went above and beyond, recommending a fantastic Ayurvedic massage and sharing the story of building this place with her husband. Delicious breakfast and warm hospitality, a true hidden gem! 🙏

United KingdomWe received such a warm welcome from Chandhi on arrival and her husband kindly carried our bags to our rooms. Everything was perfect. Large rooms, extremely clean and very well equipped. Chandhi offered to cook us a light dinner (we’d had a late lunch) and the coconut roti, dhal, sambal and cold beers really hit the spot. After an early start to visit Lion’s Rock and a plunge in the lovely private pool, we returned for a magnificent breakfast. Pancakes, fruit, juice, rotti, eggs, toast and more. We’ve enjoyed kind hospitality everywhere in Sri Lanka and we had the same at Hidden Cottages but with extra laughs, smiles and kindness from the hilarious Chandhi.

LithuaniaThe hosts here are incredibly heartwarming, and the atmosphere they create is exceptionally pleasant. They took care of everything, even after we checked out, and we're very grateful for that! The tuk-tuk they arranged for our trips was several times cheaper than if we had booked through PickMe. The house is clean and has an excellent private refreshing pool. The breakfasts were delicious and plentiful, with freshly squeezed multifruit juices that were truly incomparable! If you're ever in Sigiriya, we highly recommend this place. You'll find everything you need here – excursions, safaris, transfers, dinners – and even more.

AustriaWe liked everything - the room, the food, the location … Breakfast is really good (and very much) and the owner also cooked dinner for us once which was also delicious. Another day they took us to Sigiriya to go to a restaurant and also picked us up again afterwards. Really nice!

Portugalthere was nothing we didn't like
We loved everything about our stay! The bungalow was very clean and have air-conditioned, with a small private pool that was great for refreshing and relax . The location is very peaceful in the nature. We felt like we had a truly local experience. Chandi treated us like family, prepared wonderful meals whenever we asked, and helped us with all the logistics of what we wanted to do during our time in Sigiriya. Manesh was always very helpful and drove us whenever we needed to go somewhere. We couldn't have been happier and more grateful for this experience. Don't hesitate to book

AustraliaNothing! It isn’t right in the main area of Sigiriya but we liked being a bit further out, and there are tuk tuks around to get you into town.
We loved the privacy and having our own pool. We loved our hosts and the fabulous meals that Chandi made for us. It was really relaxing there and felt like a home away from home!

United KingdomHosts could not have been more welcoming. We booked because of previous reviews and it exceeded our expectations. Rooms were spotlessly clean, aircon worked well, towels and bedding all provided. The small pool was just what was needed after trips out during the day. Sun beds under the shade of a tree were great to relax on. Breakfasts were amazing. Different combination of Sri Lankan dishes each morning, plus fresh juice, eggs, toast and tea or coffee. All served with a big smile. We had dinner cooked for us one night which was also excellent, vegetarian noodles with dhal and bread/poppadoms. On other evenings we were transported to local restaurants and picked up afterwards. An early morning trip was provided to get us to Sigirya Lion Rock at 5am. They were able to organise a number of taxis, Tuk Tuks and a jeep safari.

United KingdomWhat an amazing host and family, perfect location to pivot around the local landmarks and host was amazing. Did everything I needed without issue and was kind enough to take me on some personal tours to the local landmarks. Very good at organising stuff and its really important you find a local willing to help with a good command of english to help you get around. Thank you very much

FranceSuper nice rooms, well decorated, very clean and calm. The private pool is a real plus. Perfect to chill and relax. Mahesh is the manager of the place and was offering to us free pick up from the center to the cottage which really helped us a lot. I really recommend this place. The only 2 things that do not match with the description of the hotel: no free pick up from dambulla and no bikes to lend in the place.

GreeceThe plugs in the room needs to be replaced as only 1 was working and it is quite challenging.
Hospitality with all the meaning. From the welcome, during the stay and from checking out. I haven’t felt it like that for many years. Amazing personal, the location is amazing literally in the jungle, good A/C, amazing breakfast and dinner. The small pool to refresh yourself after a long day in the heat is perfect. I would recommend this place if you are looking to connect with the nature and the local people generosity.

United KingdomThere was nothing to dislike! It’s worth noting that the cottages are quite difficult to find at night. Drive slowly and you’ll see a sign leading you through a narrow road to the property.
Lovely clean cottages with large bed & mosquito net. Outside area to relax & plunge pool which is really refreshing to use after a day’s sightseeing. Chandi & her family are so accommodating. We couldn’t have asked for a better host! The breakfast every day was incredible.

If I could give this place 100/10 then I would! Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. Best breakfast we have had in Sri Lanka, with fresh watermelon juice! We also had dinner here and it was so so good, all home made and delicious! It was such a treat having our very own pool, it felt so private! I am travelling with my sister and the hosts looked after us so well, the most lovely people we have met. The room was so spacious, comfy bed and great air con. What a beautiful place to stay! Thank you thank you ☺️

United KingdomGreat for birdwatching and nature. Good food. Owner's organised our 1 full day here. Tuk tuk in the morning to Pidurangala Rock and a bit of a tour of area. Afternoon safari to Hurulu to see many elephants. This was an enjoyable different experience staying in a more remote area but Mahesh, the owner, will shuttle you to restaurants in town.

Owners are so nice and couldn’t be more helpful. They organised all of our tours in Sigirya at a very reasonable cost. Breakfast’s are fantastic and they are huge… so bring your best appetites!! We had dinner there 2 nights and the food was just as delicious as the breakfasts. Rooms are large and well appointed. Ours had a fridge and kettle. The owners can supply beer, soft drinks and water at small cost. Lovely private patio area too. The property is isolated and therefore peaceful. If you want to go into Sigirya the owners will drive you there and back. We did this a couple of times and it worked really well. .
