How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe building has high ceilings and a nice vibe to it in the cafe. Each bed has its own little fan. And they provide a towel and soap.
The whole place was very dusty, the bathrooms needed cleaning and the ants and mosquitoes really get you. The beds weren’t great but I’ve had worse.

Verified reviewDorms were very clean and comfortable. Each bed has its own little fan in addition to the ceiling fans, which is nice.
Hot water does not work in the showers. Staff was completely unhelpful with providing information on the Thakhek loop. The included breakfast is just toast and eggs (which is still better than nothing I guess). I went to this hostel during the low season (June) and it was completely empty. I was alone for 2 days.

Verified reviewDecent facilities, large dorm room with fans, offer shampoo and a towel.
Staff a little bit lazy at breakfast. I was sitting and the guy just shouted for me to go and get the food. When I finished I was being kind and took my plate to where I picked it up from and he told me to put it outside.

Verified reviewThe place is clean, by backpacker standards, cheap, nothing to complain or criticize. The staff patiently waited for me to arrive. The bed has a privacy curtain, so I recommend it.

Verified reviewWindows were just holes in the wall and therefore the room was open all night, we didn’t have anything to protect ourselves from the mosquitos. Only 2/3 bathrooms for all guests so it might take time to be able to shower. For the price it was fine though. Breakfast was good!
We'd love the opportunity to serve you once more

Verified reviewThe staff were very kind and forgiving. I accidentally broke a sink that was sketchily glued to the wall by vomiting into it from food poisoning, and they did not make me pay for it, and were very understanding.
My review will be heavily biased by the fact that I got food poisoning during the night, making it a rough night for me. In the room I was in, particularly in my bunk and in that corner of the room, there was a nasty smell. I later found that it was a similar smell as downstairs in a sort of kitchen/pantry place that just smelled of something spoiled. The smell was very nauseating when I started to feel nausea from the food poisoning. I spent the night vomiting and sitting on the toilet, only to discover that there was no water in the taps and toilets at night - not a pleasant discovery. Thankfully there was one hose with a steady small stream of water coming out of it, which I could use to slowly fill a bucket and have water for washing my hands, washing down vomit and flushing the toilet. Because the smell did not allow me to stay in the room, I rested and tried to sleep on a lounge chair in the lobby in the morning. As soon as I could, I checked out and went to a nearby hostel that felt like it was much cleaner, where I spent the afternoon lying in a proper bed.

Verified reviewGood location and price point. Spacious dorm rooms. Very charming old building. The kind of place you’d see decades ago prior to the explosion of tourism. It had that vibe about it. Good beer prices (not the usual tourist prices). Breakfast was okay. Two fried eggs, toast and coffee.
The facility is used as a stopping point for those who do the loop so traffic was horrible. People coming in and out at all hours of the night. They don’t close the dorm room door so A/C doesn’t keep room cool and thus it gets hot and humid. Lots of inconsiderate guests making noise all night and like a sex orgy most of night.

Verified reviewNice vibe in the cafe. Comfortable beds. Staff was friendly
Could clean the bathrooms one or two times. Like many other hostels around. No Mosquito nets in the bed. Had to wake up in the middle of the night to fight them

Verified reviewVery good value, good breakfast, friendly staff, ac dorms.
Bathrooms could have been cleaner, no lockers, cockroaches on ground floor (which is open doors so no fault of the owners).

Verified reviewNice little place with comfy lounging chairs and decent beds, staff is nice and breakfast was simple yet tasty (appart from the jams, avoid those, stick to the eggs). Excellent value for money.

Verified reviewThe beds were comfy and it was a great location. There weren't really enough bathrooms for the number of people so by the end of the day they got a bit dirty. I think it's on its way to being a great hostel but still getting there.

Verified reviewI couldn't believe it when they told me the place had only been open 2 weeks! Most new hostels feel clean but bland and without character. This had a really cool retro historic vibe and was a pleasure to hang around in with reclining chairs and a communal bench in the large common room. The staff were really sweet and smiley, the location really couldn't be better and the beds were about the comfiest I've slept on in SE Asia. Each bunk has its own light and even fan. They also have the cheapest laundry service I've yet come across. With regards to the references-- Only dorm A is open to the main road, C to a side road. Even the main roads aren't busy in this sleepy town but if you ask for dorm B when you book I'll sure they'll be willing to accommodate if they can, especially while they are new and trying to impress! I also couldn't get hot water in shower ( not a massive problem, especially coming from Vietnam where it was actually cold weather!) but discovered the Shower on the far right was fine. It's a new place so maybe that'll be sorted out anyway.
The only thing they could really improve on is the breakfast. I ain't gonna complain when it's included in the $5 a night but they make the fried eggs and toast in batches then leave them to go cold. And cold greasy eggs is not amazing to be honest. I guess they could either cook them to order or boil them as they would be fine when cold. But like I say, it's not a complaint really and maybe they'll figure it out as they get more experienced.
