Even though ours was one of the newest bungalows, the bathroom was falling apart. Blocked drains, mould forming in the corners, even some mushrooms growing out of the silicone. Also smells coming up the drains as they run straight into the stagnant river water directly under the pontoon. It was adequate for our stay but will deteriorate quickly. I would suggest that the hotel needs to reconsider and retrofit and properly waterproof their bathrooms to avoid them falling apart and disappointing future guests. Would be 10 star if not for the bathroom

The floating bungalows are beautiful with an amazing view over the river with dramatic limestone cliffs rising out of the water. We loved the feel of bobbing around as boats passed. Really nice rooms with beautiful timber, great lighting and comfortable beds. Getting picked up from our front deck for a tour was a novelty.

A magical floating house. The place is well maintained, the bathroom was amazing, and everything was spotless. Excellent service. At night, you hear only the water, nature, and the occasional boat gently rocking the house. Breakfast was generous—maybe even too much for us. Highly recommended.

Only thing to note is that the location is down a dirt road off the main road. We recommend getting a motorbike so you can explore the area and get to the township easily. There are bikes available but it’s a tough ride in the heat!

It's a bit far from town, but since there is a free shuttle, restaurant, and room service (in the evenings), it wasn't an issue at all.

You paythrough booking.com but then when you arrive at the property pay again and then within 3 to 7 days booking.com is obligated by law to refund you the money you paid them originally so I do not like paying twice. I think it is a terrible system and it is not documented anywhere and I'm also staying in nong kwiah Long enough to ensure I received my full refund as it seems like a rather peculiar system for how I've travelled.

I love the location. I love the serenity. I love the piece. I love the people. How however, there is one thing I do not love.

The staff are incredibly kind and helpful. They organised a last minute boat trip to Muang Ngoy for us despite it being the Lao New Year. The floating cabins are extraordinary with an incredible view and access to swim in the river. It was raining when we visited so we couldn’t fully take advantage of this, but we were happy to just sit in the room, which was really beautifully designed. Due to the river location, it is very slightly out of the town - but we took the shuttle bus in and walked back with no problems. You can WhatsApp to request the shuttle return, but we wanted to walk. We loved this place and absolutely recommend it. It’s really special.

View and room comfort

River stairs were a bit dirty and slippery. Restaurant was closed because the cook was in hospital (other visitors also mentioned absence of cook, so this may have been an excuse they use more often). Electricity went down for a while in the middle of the night, so no airco or fan. The indoor lights are very bright non-warm LED, not very cosy. After two nights we had a lot of itching red dots on our skin and discovered bugs on the upper sheet of the bed. Not 100% sure that they were the cause, or that it was mosquitos. When opening the plug of the bath the bathroom floor became wet because of a leak somewhere. Female receptionist were not so friendly for reasons we do not understand.

Beautiful view on the river with balcony and direct access to river for swimming. They mentioned that the water is safe for swimming (4 meter deep). Water was clean and had good temperature. Big bathtub next to the window to enjoy the views and sounds in the evening while taking a bath. Nice a la carte breakfast. It looks like you can only pick one of the breakfast items but we ordered multiple at no extra charge. Quiet at night with only jungle sounds and no bar music or traffic sounds. Very friendly male receptionist. We booked a hiking tour and the pickup and drop off was by boat at the edge of our own bungalow. Probably the nicest place to stay in Nong Khiaw and we would certainly book again.

It’s not really a dislike, but we found the staff not to be as friendly as in other accommodations around Laos and Vietnam. Didn’t really affect our stay, as we loved the bungalow so much 😍

No expense has been spared and the bungalows are fitted out with quality furnishings and materials. We loved lazing on the bed with the doors open looking out onto the river. Our bed was really comfortable. The breakfast is nice and plentiful. The view from the restaurant terrace is beautiful. The free shuttle into town is really useful, although staff won’t alter the time not even by 15 mins.

Tick was a great host. And I can honestly say this was my nicest stay in Laos! Absolute luxury ✨️ 👌 So serene and peaceful I wanted to live there! The views were outstanding and I really felt in touch with nature here! I had the best time and when I return to Laos i will stay for longer! Worth the money and I won't forget my stay here!!!

Breakfast was okay. Cappuccino and fruits were great, but only continental breakfast options available, which were nothing too fancy.

Fantastic place! Super comfy bed, luxurious bathroom, spotless clean and just overall a great location. Jumping into the river was our daily highlight! The frogs can be bit noisy at night, but you are in such a nature location, it would be silly to complain about that. Kayaking is possible, I caught a boat straight from my room to Muang noy. Couldn't recommend this place any more!

Beautiful hotel on Nam Ou river. Room size was adequate. Bathroom was very nice. The best thing was the access to the river from the deck that allowed swimming in the river. Food in the restaurant was good. Service was excellent.

The location is not ideal, it's around 15 min walk to the nearest restaurant on the same side of the river, 20-25 mins to hikes and restaurants on the other side. This wouldn't be a problem, but you have to walk down a dirt road that's really dusty when cars pass and has lots of potholes, and no street lights at night so not ideal for walking or cycling (and there weren't any alternative tuk tuks or taxis available). The hotel offers a shuttle but it operates at limited set hours (eg there's one leaving at 10:30am, then the next not until 14:00) and the restaurant in the hotel is often closed (when we stayed, lunch was unavailable every day and dinner was not available one day). The breakfast starts quite late - they advertise it as starting at 8, but in reality, the staff only arrive at 8, so it's not served until 8:30am. I also wouldn't recommend buying a bus ticket through the hotel as they don't book you a seat on a specific bus and charge more than at the bus station. Overall, for the price you pay for the hotel, you'd expect these types of services (shuttle transport, restaurant opening hours etc) to be better, but I'd still recommend staying here as the hotel rooms and views are worth it!

The floathouses are very nicely designed and furnished. The rooms are really spacious and clean, the beds are comfy and the view is amazing. Having a big bathtub with hot water was also really good. It's quite a unique experience staying over water on the river with the beautiful view in front of you! The breakfast was tasty and the staff were really friendly and helpful. When you book tours, it was quite a luxury to be picked up and dropped off by boat from your room.

Boats can be a bit noisy and some of them pass by too close, what makes you feel a bit exposed. They shouldn’t offer the 1 day trekking tour any more: 20 km walking in a dust road surrounded by deforestation.

Fantastic views of the river from the room’s deck, specially at sunset. Comfortable bed and attentive staff. Even when the hotel is not far from the village, the free shuttle is a great service given how dusty the road is. They can book tours and transfers.
