Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The perfect getaway with marvellous views of the Mekong river. Spacious rooms, ÁC, nature sounds all around. Watching river activities from our room like water buffalos and locals passing by in their boats. Great clean pool. The grounds are kept clean. Makes you feel like you are in a garden story book and the immense amount of details that has gone into making this place is just unreal. Lovely staff. Lovely town people. A few shops within the walking distance for limited snacks and drinks . And an elephant sanctuary about a 15 min leisurely walk away. Come here to disconnect and enjoy nature at its finest

Location on river is very beautiful. Staff did not have much English but can communicate through Google translate. The elephant encounter was good and easy to organise

As a world traveler and an airbnb host of many years, I know an exceptional place when I find one. This is a unique and wonderful property. It has an old world, exotic feel, the location and grounds are beautiful and the time spent with their sweet elephants is not an experience I will soon forget! So lucky I found this place. 🙏🙏

This hotel is just amazing. We planned to stay for 4 nights to relax in the middle of a 6 week trip. We extended to 5 nights. The buildings are gardens are stunning. The location next to the river is perfect. So much life going on to watch. The food was superb. The hotel had vegetarian dishes on the menu and also adapted other dishes for us replacing meat with tofu. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I cannot emphasise enough what great value for money this hotel is and an occasional review complains that breakfast was not included in the price! As an aside it’s nice to walk next door to the new tea house too for tea and a light savoury of sweet bite.

We absolutely loved everything, would highly recommend, the food was delicious and great prices. The pool was beautiful, the view of everything was beautiful. The staff were kind and helpful. Our elephant tour was with two elephants and five people, so very quiet and didn't have to share the elephants with a crowd. We were surprised this place wasn't busier but it's a secret gem. You could stare at the view all day. Booking.com does say there isn't a toilet in our room but that is most definitely not true, the bathroom was clean and comfortable.

SwitzerlandThe weatiher was a little cold iat the start of the new year. That is not their fault, however the fact that their shower hot water heater worked as hard as a government employee was indeed their fault. Could you say it worked? No, but the water was sometime warm.
The grounds and facilities are wonderdul. The surroundings are primitive, some people ride around on elephants. This leaves large lumps of processing which you should avoid. The people are almost as nice as the elephants, and I could not really understand what the elephants said about the boys that worked with them. The timing of porcessing may have said something. .

NetherlandsWe’ve spent three nights here. Nothing to say about the view. It’s amazing. The place is green, across the river. There are many hangout places inside that you can find the peace. Elephant feeding/bathing was also amazing. Luang Prabang is 30 min. away by the car/motorbike.

This was my second stay here in the past 6 months. That should tell you a lot. I LOVE the charm of this property, which instantly puts your soul at ease and encourages you to dream. Life along the river is a constant story filled with fisher folk, water buffalos, elephants, villagers tending their crops, women fishing for crustaceans, and clouds of butterflies The rooms - like the dining area - are filled with antiques, and the pool is dreamy. The food is delicious, and there are plenty of activities to do or not do. We played with the elephants and went kayaking to a waterfall, as well as hopping across the river to check out the village farms. The staff are great, and the Manager - Fah - is possibly the hardest working person I've slever encountered. As I said, I live this place and all that it stands for.

United KingdomThere could be noise issues if someone stays in a room above, but it didn't bother me much and in no way detracted from the loveliness of my stay. I stayed three nights and only a few sounds the first night - so don't let this put you off.
Chateau Orientale was recommended to me by a New Zealand couple i met in Luang Prabang. I headed out early to escape the city - and it really was a spectacular stay - with mesmerising views across the river, daily sitings of elephants ambling past, boats passing and the life of the village nearby adding to the ambiance. Very friendly team - who were kind and helpful at all times. Spectacular views from the restaurant - and the pool - and my room. The design was really wonderful with woodwork from India and a very exotic feel - extremely comfortable too. The menu was good and you could sit in different spots around to enjoy views. I didn't feel in the mood for trips - but i'm sure i would visit again to try the village mountain bike trip and kayaking etc - all easy to arrange...

United StatesCost from town, thru Chateau Oriental Guide is $15. I got there I pin my own for less than $5. Can only book tours through them, since they are a bit isolated. Tour was good, but $50 for half day. Pool had handfuls of chlorine at bottom.
Beautifully situated on the River about 10 miles East of Luang Prabang. Elephants were bathing in the river when I arrived and when I was leaving. Farms across river loading vegetables, fishermen throwing nets, water Buffalo sleeping on sand island. Fascinating. Nice pool. Extensive menu. Very good food.

Singapore1. There is no provision of hanger and a place to hang your clothes. There is a cardboard in the room but you will have to fold your clothes. 2. The wifi speed was slow. 3. I would prefer if there are USB charging points in the room. 4. The space between the bed and the mini fridge in our room was very tight and my leg got cut (a minor one) when moving to the mini fridge.
Location: Chateau Orientale is situated in a rural area, next to the Nam Khan River. The whole resort area is very tranquil. I really enjoyed the serenity and the sound of the gentle flowing water of the river. It is such a pleasant experience to sit at the balcony and just relax. Breakfast was cooked to order, not buffet style. The selection is a small one but the food was great. I had the American breakfast (ie bread, cereal and fried egg) whereas my wife had the white noodles with chicken. The view at the breakfast restaurant looking out to the river was the greatest attraction.

United StatesTransport to and from town was $15, which is really crazy. I took a taxi from town to the train station, which is less than 2 miles away for $2, and then hopped another taxi for the 2 miles.
Could not be better situated for views of the river. NOTE: this hotel is 8-10 miles from Luang Prabang. Not as map shows, a location in town, which is only a tour office. Absolutely perfect to watch all life along the river including elephants, water buffalo, me throwing net, pole boats, farms across river loading sacks of veggies all day, children swimming after school. I stayed 4 days and loved every minute. Beautiful grounds, decor, pool, lounge chairs and lounge cushions. Excellent extensive menu and food. Can book tours and be picked up. I kayaked and we went up river to waterfall and finished our trip right at the chateau.

The resort is absolutely fantastic with the beautiful scenery of the river and mountains. It is located about half an hour ride from Luang Prabang city centre. They have a total of 5 rooms. They have 1 restaurant and the food is delicious. We had a lovely stay (unfortunately only 1 night) and would definitely stay again. Hopefully soon! :-)
