Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Good environment, quiet, hotel is well designed, swimming pool is always available and with clear water. Room is big, with nice review, hot shower with large water, refrigerator, pajama. 900 meters to the center. Local food stand, fruit, restaurant available close by. Nice staff, helped us to rent the motorbike and bus to train station. Also help to change some money when we did not have enough to pay the rental. Variety of breakfast, nice service.

United KingdomWe didn't realise when booking that the hotel was across a bridge, which was a bit of a walk to the main town, and most tuk tuks were reluctant to give us a lift home due to this. This was our fault when booking for not checking, however I would be mindful that staying here you are a tuk tuk or bike trip away from the centre / 20 minute walk.
Staff and room were amazing, couldn't fault the hotel. They were really accommodating and helpful by giving us free tuk tuks to the main town.

United KingdomNot the easiest place to stay if you are uncomfortable using a moped, bike or hopping on a long boat to reach the old town. Fortunately this did not apply to us, but wanted to point this out.
Lovely, spacious room with traditional furnishing and decor, large comfortable bed and a nice modern bathroom. We were on the first floor and liked the vaulted wooden ceilings and good-sized balcony, which overlooked the small well-kept pool and dining area. This is a small, peaceful hotel, in a low-key local area just across the Nam Kham river. The location may initially seem off-putting, but the route across to the main / old town of Luang Prabang is an experience in itself! When we were there the river was high and 5-minutes wander from the hotel a small very reasonably-priced boat crosses on demand for most of the day and evening ... So approximately 10 minutes in total and you are amongst everything the lovely town offers, with the benefit of a little boat trip first! In dry season there’s a bamboo foot bridge instead and at all times a different iron bridge that you can walk across , or use a bike or moped borrowed from hotel or hired in town. Another plus, the smiling owner will collect / run you to the airport in about 10 minutes in his tuk tuk.

United KingdomThe shower didn’t drain well in my bathroom, which meant the bathroom flooded badly every time I used it. (To be fair, I didn’t report it during my stay - perhaps if I had they would have promptly fixed it.) There’s a bar opposite the guesthouse which plays pretty loud music that you can hear in some of the rooms. Not the guesthouse’s fault obviously - and they always stopped by midnight, but just something to be aware of if you have children. The pool was excessively chlorinated I think as it felt a little chemical-y and the water could have been cooler. Also the hotel could think about getting covers for the outdoor chairs that aren’t leather (as they’re a bit hot to lie on) The staff don’t speak much English, which is not a big deal but did cause a bit of confusion when it transpired they had got our rooms mixed up with some other guests’ on the bill (we had difficulty explaining this)
Very clean and comfortable hotel with pool which in many respects feels quite luxurious for the price. Lovely decor and great bathroom. Would be very happy to stay there again. It’s definitely also worth noting that the hotel is not as far away from town as it looks on the map. It’s across the river Nam Khan from the centre of town, and due to the layout of the roads is not that close by car, BUT there’s an alternative, smaller bridge you can cross on foot/by scooter (‘the Old French Bridge’) which makes for a very pleasant walk. In addition: there’s a little boat run by a nearby restaurant (called Dyen Sabai - they do tasty food and cocktails!), which you can flag down and it will take you across the Nam Khan right to the heart of Luang Prabang’s old quarter. The boat only takes about a minute. I think it’s been set up quite recently and they take you across regardless of whether you’ve eaten at the restaurant or not (for a very small fee). We heard that in dry season when the river is really low there’s no boat but you can simply take a little footbridge across from the same spot. All very convenient if you’re staying at Alana…

United States• The front desk staff was well meaning, but inexperienced. The staff was difficult to communicate with even past the language barrier. • Our room, #20, had poor WiFi signal if it even worked at all • The bar next door played loud music until midnight every night. • The breakfast was below average. Cold boiled hot dogs, cold fried things. The ladies just bring over random foods without asking, which ends up wasting a lot of food. I wish they would focus on a few things of high quality instead of many low-quality things. • It was a long (30 minutes) walk to the old city and the bikes were not always available • Overall, poor value for the money
We booked Alana in advance and were very excited to relax there based on the other reviews and photos. Unfortunately, we did not fully enjoy our stay. The good things were: • Clean, spacious room • Good hot shower • Helped to book our train • Bikes available to take to town

JerseyLocation isn’t great. It’s 30 mins from the main town and across a bridge that you can’t access by foot. Not too many places to eat around this area either. Staff don’t speak a lot of English and I wouldn’t say we’re very helpful, apart from the lady on reception.
