How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat location on the beach. Comfy bed. Good privacy curtains. Excellent friendly, helpful staff. Good food and great music.
Dorm was badly neglected. Toilet blocked, lock broken on the door. Sink blocked. Dead plants in the dorm. Nasty stuff smeared on the wall by my bed. No one in management had checked properly on this dorm for a long time.

Verified reviewThis was the worst accommodation we have stayed in during our south east Asia trip. The room was full of mould, stank of wee, and the sheets had not been cleaned properly. We complained to the staff but were offered no solution or refund, so we checked out. Do not stay here!

Verified reviewBeds in dorm were big and comfy, air con on throughout the night, and food in the restaurant was really nice. The shower facilities though weren’t great, one of the doors in our room didn’t have a lock, and the shower itself had little pressure and was cold. Other than that it was good!

Verified reviewThe dorms are very spacious with huge beds, big lockers and big bathrooms. The hostel is right on the beach, walking distance from Eden Pier. Great communal area and amazing food!! We did have an issue with a odd man following us but that’s not really the hostels fault. Loved our short stay would recommend and would come again 😊

Verified reviewI've stayed in a lot of cheap hostels around the world. This is one of the worst ones. The good reviews, I can only imagine, are from people who lacked the ability to differentiate between the beauty of Koh Rong Samloem and Saracen Bay and the below average conditions of The Big Easy. It's dirty. I don't expect immaculate cleanliness. My house is kinda messy. The Big Easy is DIRTY. There's mold in the rooms and bathrooms. Dirt and dust (and sand - which is a bit more forgivable) everywhere. Things are falling apart (holes in the walls and ceilings, the hinge on my locker was completely disconnected). There were two bathrooms/showers in the 8-person dorm. The lock on one was broken, making it useless. Some bunks have a shelf, which is good. Others don't, which is bad. Pay $2 and put up a shelf so people can put their phones on it to charge and don't have to put their toothbrush on the floor in the moldy locker. Plus, because they are so shoddily made, many locks won't fit the latch. Only about 6 beach chairs. My dorm had 8 bunks. There are multiple rooms. You see the problem. Some of the staff are foreign volunteers (there are also paid foreigners) - this, of course, takes paid jobs away from locals. One night there was a party until 2AM or so. Beyond making a lot of noise, it was the foreign staff that were up late making a huge mess (empty beer cans and bottles, cigarette butts, trash) and the Cambodians who woke up early to clean it up. Finally, there was a mix up and they thought that I didn't pay for one of my meals that I ate there. Like I would dine and dash at the place that I was staying makes any sense. Staff was decidedly not friendly after that - which was their mistake. Even without this incident, if I were to come back to Saracen Bay, I'd not stay in this hostel. The restaurant was fine. Good, even. Though, I have some concerns about the cleanliness of the kitchen after seeing the rooms.

Verified reviewThe staff were really nice, and the location is great, right on the beach. The room was bigger than we expected.
The aircon wasn't particularly strong and made a really loud beeping sound that woke us up during the night, so we had to turn it off.You don't get a cover or sheet for the bed, just an old blanket with holes in it, which made us wonder how clean it was. We stayed for 4 nights and our room wasn't cleaned once (we don't expect much, but considering you can't flush paper down the toilet, emptying the bin would be appreciated). The space outside the hostel also doesn't look like the pictures. It's a restaurant with tables and chairs, and only a couple of beds for lounging that were always full. Overall we felt it was overpriced for what you get.

Verified reviewThe staff are friendly and helpful. The food is good and reasonably priced. The mattress is comfortable and the bed spacious.
Not well maintained. The bedframes are rusty, as well as the lockers, and completely dirty. The bathrooms are mouldy, one toilet was missing the seat and there was barely any water pressure from the sink. Only cold water in the showers.
