How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLovely relaxed stay. We stayed in the loft room which was cosy and not too hot without air con. The staff were so lovely and helpful, plenty of optional social opportunities with fellow traveler’s and staff if wanted. Great location. Really enjoyed it here
No WiFi, but not detrimental to stay - a lot of power cuts on the island anyway so perfect for a technology detox

Verified reviewThe owners are very very kind! We stayed here a few months ago and still talk about it. Great location as well. Much to do for the guests. We didn’t do that, but there are great options Lieke & Gijs from Holland

Verified reviewLocation, volunteers, decoration hostel.
Two days before my arrival I sent a message that I am coming for 2 instead of 3 nights. Any hostel owner understands this will be flexible with the change. Except this female hostel owner. Around $33 for 2 nights in the 8 person dorm is too much. Yes I understand the 'losing money' but any other hostel in Asia would respond flexibly. Positive experiences with the owner's boyfriend and other volunteers though, sweet people.
Hey. We have a 3 day cancel policy. You texted us around 12 hours before check in. We are a small business and the season is very short here. Normally we are pretty flexible, but with that short (not 2 days before as mentioned) notice we can not just sell the bed to someone else for one day… So yes just because you decide to stay another night at Koh Rong, we don’t want to pay for that. We think that’s pretty fair ✌️ Enjoy Koh Kong and the nice waterfalls

We were in the attic and it was hot but such is life ☺️ The fan drowned out the late noise at night but we are old and this is a hostel so don't let it put you off if your in the attic!

Verified reviewI highly recommend staying at Seashell when staying in M’pai Bay! The location is perfect, close to restaurants and the ferry. Short easy walk to the big beautiful beach near town. I loved that they organize activities each day like game night or bonfire on the beach to bring everyone together and socialize. Also recommend eating at the Cambodian Kitchen behind the hostel, bonus they’ll even deliver lunch or dinner to the hostel!

Verified reviewVery friendly people. Right on the beach with a charming local village all around.
No Wi-Fi It would have been nice to have mesh or glass in the windows in the double room rather than a hole closed off with a board on a dtring

Verified reviewGreat choice if you are looking for a chilled ”in your extended living room” vibe. Easy to make friends, great location right at the beach. Did not have an opportunity to try the breakfast. No AC in the rooms but for me the fan in the private room was sufficient.
Given the location (small fishing village on an island without major infrastructure) I think the facilities are what you could expect. Would have appreciated an electric converter in the shower to allow for hot water/at least adjusting the temperature of the water but didn’t mind too much.

Verified reviewThe location was good! It's a very small town every place has a good location lol
I was scared to walk on the stairs, especially with my heavy backpack to carry me up and down. I asked for help since I did not feel safe. There was only one hammock by the beach in the whole hostel. There was no eating by the beach. There was no soup or shampoo in the bathroom and showers. There was yoga for a small amount, but for 6 nights, I was there in town only once it was provided. Always was something 😩!
Hey Patricya Thank you for your review! The 4 steps on the stairs are a bit weird but we will always help people to carry their stuff of course. You complained a lot about the missing hammocks on the beach… we told you to bring one of our many bean bags out on the beach, which you did many times? We have two benches on the beach where guests and people can enjoy a drink or food? There is of course always handsoap at all of our toilets but no hair shampoo as we expect our guest to bring it themselves. We offer Yoga from Monday to Saturday and there is at least space for 10 people. The morning you showed up and yoga was cancelled was because our yoga teacher was sick as we explained to you. We were all working really hard doing Christmas and new year to give our guests the best experience. We also invited you to our Christmas dinner even though you weren’t staying here. But a lot of things were also “wrong” that night 😉 It was pretty obvious that you had really high expectations for the businesses here in M’Pai Bay and unfortunately we couldn’t fulfill them. Good luck on your travels ✌🏼

Verified reviewI loved my stay at Seashell Guesthouse. Everything was clean, the hostel is well-maintained, the owners and volunteers were super friendly and were able to give me all the information I needed. The hostel is very easy to get to, as it's only 2 minutes from the M'Pai bay pier. The atmosphere is both relaxed and lively. It's also a great place to meet people. I recommend it 100% if you decide to stay at M'Pai Bay. Important to know: if you want to reach the island's other beaches, the only option is to take a taxi boat $10 for a return trip.
