Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNo WiFi, but not detrimental to stay - a lot of power cuts on the island anyway so perfect for a technology detox
Lovely relaxed stay. We stayed in the loft room which was cosy and not too hot without air con. The staff were so lovely and helpful, plenty of optional social opportunities with fellow traveler’s and staff if wanted. Great location. Really enjoyed it here

United StatesI highly recommend staying at Seashell when staying in M’pai Bay! The location is perfect, close to restaurants and the ferry. Short easy walk to the big beautiful beach near town. I loved that they organize activities each day like game night or bonfire on the beach to bring everyone together and socialize. Also recommend eating at the Cambodian Kitchen behind the hostel, bonus they’ll even deliver lunch or dinner to the hostel!

SwedenGiven the location (small fishing village on an island without major infrastructure) I think the facilities are what you could expect. Would have appreciated an electric converter in the shower to allow for hot water/at least adjusting the temperature of the water but didn’t mind too much.
Great choice if you are looking for a chilled ”in your extended living room” vibe. Easy to make friends, great location right at the beach. Did not have an opportunity to try the breakfast. No AC in the rooms but for me the fan in the private room was sufficient.

United StatesI was scared to walk on the stairs, especially with my heavy backpack to carry me up and down. I asked for help since I did not feel safe. There was only one hammock by the beach in the whole hostel. There was no eating by the beach. There was no soup or shampoo in the bathroom and showers. There was yoga for a small amount, but for 6 nights, I was there in town only once it was provided. Always was something 😩!
The location was good! It's a very small town every place has a good location lol

I loved my stay at Seashell Guesthouse. Everything was clean, the hostel is well-maintained, the owners and volunteers were super friendly and were able to give me all the information I needed. The hostel is very easy to get to, as it's only 2 minutes from the M'Pai bay pier. The atmosphere is both relaxed and lively. It's also a great place to meet people. I recommend it 100% if you decide to stay at M'Pai Bay. Important to know: if you want to reach the island's other beaches, the only option is to take a taxi boat $10 for a return trip.

AustraliaBlinds/curtains and a mosquito net in the private room would be my only suggestions. (Already available in the dorms)
Everyone at Seashells was lovely. Welcoming and friendly but still chilled. The common area was great for meeting people or staying solo if you prefer. Lots of cute dogs to pet and the view overlooking the water was great. My private room was really clean and the fan was enough to stay cool overnight.

United KingdomThe most incredible location was matched with a beautifully decorated and relaxed hostel with the cutest puppy! Really chilled vibe and sociable too, we were even invited to a party on the island for the opening of a new hostel which was fun. Bunk beds with plugs and a fan - we were a bit worried about lack of AC but this wasn't an issue at all. Really friendly owners who put on daily yoga classes and bracelet making. Food near the hostel is AMAZING - especially recommend the Seapony Cafe, the cambodian restaurant out the back of the hostel, and the massive mango shakes from the local restaurant 2 doors down. Quick tip, just make sure you take enough cash out on the mainland as thr whole island is cash only and get a SIM card as there's no WiFi on the island either.

FinlandFacilities were not that great, toilet’s weren’t the cleanest, water pressure was bad and the other toilet’s sink didn’t work. The stairs leading upstairs are a bit unsafe. A bit pricy in our opinion compared to other hostels we have stayed.

The hostel is straight onto the beach and minutes walk from all the best restaurants and pier of M’Pai Bai. The minute we walked in we were welcomed by volunteers and instantly felt like a part of a family, and ended up extending to stay over a week when the original plan was 3 nights 😅

AustraliaLovely little place. Was there during low season. Loved it. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and comfortable, the owners are lovely and the common area is just the nicest place to chill and hang out with travellers. M'pai Bay is a remote place on the island - it is calm, quiet and peaceful where you can stop, breathe and relax. Just a simple and autenthic village inhabited by welcoming and beautiful people. Highly recommend to stop here.
