If you want a real bathroom, don’t come here.

The bungalow is located in a fishing village. It’s quiet and you have some local restaurants in the village. the view is beautiful as the room is near the little river where you can kayak. It’s not a luxury place, the bathroom is quite rustic but if you don’t mind that. It’s a really cool place to stay. Not far from Lonely beach by moto. The host was very kind to bring me to some locations as I don’t know how to drive a moto. He was very helpful.

Such a beautiful location. I loved being in a village where tourism didn't feel like the primary activity. The mangrove with all the fishing boats is very picturesque, and i would have been happy to spend the whole week just gazing at the view from my veranda! But i didn't 😂 Johney was incredibly helpful and friendly, giving me lifts to the various stunning beaches (I didn't have a scooter) and sorting out my onward boat ticket. The bungalow itself was basic, but everything it needed to be. I certainly recommend Friend of Nature as a place to stay.

This is a developing country and progress goes fast here. Basic services like waste disposal and handling are not taken care of. This isn't really due to the owner but more an overall community problem of which the government takes insufficient care off. There is so much plastic in the mangroves as well as littered through the village.

Amazing place located in a very quiet area of the island immersed in the local community. I really liked the bungalows right above the water. The Cottages are simple but don't lack amenities like power and shower. the beds are very nice too. You can use the kayak to go into the mangroves free of charge. Again, very comfortable quiet and wholesome.

There is no wifi on this property, which was absolutely fine with me, nice for a digital detox, but might be important if you are working online whilst travelling!

This was one of the highlights of our 6 month trip around SE Asia. Definitely worth a stay here if you want a break from the busy life. This is a little piece of heaven, a 40 minute Tuk Tuk drive from the main strip of Koh Rong. Staying on a floating bungalow on the mangrove, you can take a free Kayak whenever you want and go around the mangrove or to the sea. You can volunteer to teach local children English, which was a great experience. A great place to recharge, with nice food places around the property and gorgeous nature and scenery to surround you. Couldn’t recommend it more.

We arrived at Koh Rong on the supply boat at about 18 00 hrs, the boat stopped at the Palm Beach Bungalow resort - we walked from here but we had no clear instructions on where to go. Directions would have been good. For information you come out onto the road, turn right and walk until you come accross a temple, come into the village and just before a bridge you turn left. Mention the name Johney and you should get there.

This place was a real treat - accomodation is great, basic but good. A wooden hut over the water in a very friendly village. A good bed, fan, cold water bathroom with shower - all good with a hammock outside, table and chairs. We were very happy here. Food is around 14,000 riel per meal and a bottle of water 1.5l is 3/4,000 riel. No option of refil unfortunately. There was no toilet roll or soap provided, everywhere was perfectly clean. There is a very friendly bakery man who comes round on a bike between 8am and 9am who sells nice bakery items - short french stick for 3,000 riel and plain donut 2,000 riel. The island is beautiful and friendly. We loved our stay here and would definately stay again. There is a single lone otter who wanders around trying to befriend the dogs who is lovely.

Locals like their karaoke very loud and the walls aren’t exactly soundproof but it didn’t go on very late

Such a great experience surrounded by locals in a fishing village in the corner of the island, easily accessible by tuktuk, free kayak to rent and explore the mangroves plus bike rental available. There are a few good local eateries nearbye plus western food if you need it, there is also a redident otter which you will probably see running around in the morning, Johnny is very helpful

Everything! The location is beautiful and our host, Johney, did so much for us, above and beyond. We loved our simple, little Bungalow over the water in a local fishing village. We really felt part of the community where and Johney has set up several programs where we could give back directly. These include sponsoring children at the local school by buying their school equipment and bag (which they get to choose themselves) plus a sack of rice for their families. We were able to enjoy the whole island with the motorbike we borrowed and also made several trips to Lonely Beach, including a snorkeling trip out to a small island on a local fishing boat. We also had free use of kayaks to explore the river. We loved our stay so much that we kept extending!

We had such a wonderful time in this bungalow. The connection with the nature is amazing because, literally, you’re inside the mangrove. Our favorite thing was kayaking, we explored the mangrove and finished in the sea. In summary, this place is pure magic.

Sometimes the power seems to run out and e.g. the fan stops working at night, or you can no longer charge your phone. Did not bother us that much though, good opportunity to get some technology detox ;) also, it's good to be aware that there is no running water, just barrels with waters to use for washing. All visible in the booking information, though. :)

The host, Johnny, was extremely helpful. He arranged for us to be picked up from the pier and then driven back there for our return trip. He also borrowed us a kayak and snorkeling masks for free. The experience was unique, just staying with the local people in the village on the river. Very basic, but everything you need. The place is 45 mins walking distance to Lonely Beach, but there is also a local beach, Palm Beach, close by, and we recommend that one, as hardly anyone visits it. There are many good food options around, as well as shops. There is also a cooking stove on the porch, and unlimited potable water.

I spent 15 days in Cambodia and this was the highlight of my entire trip. I took the speedboat from Kampot to Koh Rong and Johnny picked me from the pier on his motorbike. We stopped to watch the sunset at the most beautiful beach with white sand. And then we reached the cottage and I fell in love with the place. My backpack strap had broken and Johnny got it repaired by someone in the village. He lent me his kayak free of charge. He took all the guests to other islands and offered snorkeling equipment and showed around like a friend and not business. I kayaked to other spots on the island. The room was lovely and very comfortable.

Located in a magical place (mangrove forest), among locals. The bungalow is simple, which in my opinion is the best way to enjoy the environment surrounding it. The bed was confortable and had a mosquito net. The fan was all I needed to keep the room fresh at night. The shower had a good flow. The hammock on the balcony, with a view on the mangrove, was exceptional! Volunteering is possible there - teaching English to kids, planting mangrove plants, etc. Lonely beach, a stunning place, is close enough to access on foot (I did it a few times). Good restaurants also close by. Above all, Johney, the owner is funny, extremely helpful and kind, he drove me around several times 🥹 I wish I could’ve stay there longer. If you’re looking for a peaceful, authentic place to stay in Koh Rong, go there!

    I loved it all.

If you like to get to know rural life. How a fishing village operates, this is your place to go. This is not a place to party goers or luxury tourism. But if you’re interested in getting to know how locals live, if you wanna enjoy a cabin for ecotourism, this is your place! I loved every minute and I plan to come back! The host also arranges for you to go sightseeing and support local fishing children’s education. This stay has made my trip of eight months in south east Asia magical!it’s also very safe for solo female travelers.

    Nothing

This place is located in the mangrove forest, in the middle of a fisherman village in the north of the island, this is the perfect place for someone who wants to live a local experience, and escape from the busy party scenery of the island, the nature is amazing, with wild otters visiting you, and loads of friendly locals that will smile at you, Johnny is a great and kind host that will help you with anything you need. Try to spend more than three days here to have a full experience.

    Everything was perfect for us!

Honestly I have no words to describe this paradise place. Firstly I want to thank Johney, the host of this beautiful place. He has a very good heart. He was so helpful. We had everything that we needed even our own kitchen. Johney gave us towels, water, cooking supplies and more over he allowed us kayaking and it was one of the best days! Talking about the place: it’s a paradise. We were staying in local village and interacting with locals. The kids are adorable there. The house was so beautiful. It had a fan and it was more than enough for us. When you live in the nature you don’t really need WiFi so it was amazing to have these beautiful three days in the nature and waking up with the songs of the birds. OMG! I 100% recommend Friend of Nature homestay! You will never regret it and it could be your best experience in Cambodia because for us it was one of the best! Also Friend of nature homestay is situated in the north of Koh Rong, very close to Lonely beach and it has its own local Palm beach. Johney, thank you so much for being so nice to us! Your homestay is one of the best that I’ve stayed in!

Really enjoyed our time here. Such a relaxing and beautiful place where you can really immerse yourself into a more local and nature experience. Johney also an amazing host, super helpful, offers scooters for rent, free snorkelling gear and kayaks. The hut itself was really nice, huge bed and it would cool down enough in the night with the fan to make comfortable sleeping experience. Only comment I would make is expect no luxury for toilet and shower facilities, its all part of the experience, and we found it very enjoyable but might not be everyones cup of tea.

The pillows are rock hard. You share wall with another bungalow and basically hear everything that happens in the other bungalow as if you’re in the same room.

The bungalow itself is basic but really nice, with a spacious bed. The location is great if you’re comfortable driving a scooter, otherwise you’ll be quite isolated. It’s away from the tourists, with lonely beach nearby (with scooter). Johny was very friendly and accommodating. He came to pick me up from the main pier and arranged a ride back as well. The scooter rental here is probably the cheapest you’ll find on the island.
