How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewBeautiful location and facilities. Private beach. Very quiet and tranquil place. Really felt relaxed from staying here, which we needed after 7 weeks non-stop travel. Food was pleasant.
Unfortunately, there was construction going on during our stay which we were not warned about beforehand and meant we could not use the pool. However, most of the time we were not aware of it going on as our room and the restaurant were far enough away. Further, this should be completed by Sept 2025 at which point I can imagine the place will be stunning.

Verified reviewA fantastic place. We were upgraded and the hotel is paradise in Kenya. Easily one of the best places we have ever stayed anywhere. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, including the reception staff, the housekeepers, the security guys, the chefs making delicious fresh food including delicious fresh mango juice and huge fantastic breakfasts and the incredibly charming waiting staff. We really felt looked after, the location is incredible and the beach is pristine. This is a true paradise! Thanks so much everyone at Mwazaro.

Mr Jeremiah the manager was very welcoming, Ana on reception was great, the chefs made delicious food and the waiting staff were always incredibly charming and friendly as were the housekeepers. We were able to arrange great local tours including a local walk and a river tour. The food was fantastic, the beach pristine and beautiful. It is paradise! Thank you so much to everyone at Mwazaro!

Verified reviewWe had a delightful stay at the lodge. The property is located in a secluded area, right by the sea, creating a serene and relaxing atmosphere. The rooms were spacious, nicely decorated, and exceptionally comfortable. Everything was impeccably clean. You can watch the sunrise from your room and end the day enjoying the sunset from the rooftop bar. The food and service at the restaurant were very good. You can do a variety of day trips, visit the local community and have onsite kitesurfing lessons. The staff is exceptionally friendly, always smiling, and genuinely eager to assist with any requests. Their hospitality and attention to detail are outstanding. The sand at the beach is a bit muddy but this is what allows the Mangrove trees to thrive, creating a unique landscape. We highly recommend staying at Mwazaro.

There’s nothing i did not like the only constructive feedback i can give is that the establishment should have leaflets or brochures detailing all relevant activities both in the local area and in the lodge.

Verified reviewA wonderful place, our eyes really lit up when we arrived and saw how it looks and feels in reality. Beautifully located, secluded, great layout and facilities, fantastic friendly staff. We went in January, when the monsoon wind makes for really pleasant temperatures from noon onwards.
There are mosquitos at night and we did not use the provided spray thoroughly enough on our first night so got bitten then. We figured it out from the second night. Hopefully some good advice for the next travellers.

Verified reviewThe place is super pretty and a lot bigger that in the photos. Staff were so friendly and make your stay memorable, especially Sammy was really friendly and helpful. Food was really good. There is the Mwazaro village next to the hotel and in the afternoon villagers will come to the beach which I loved to see. Also how they do fishing during day I enjoyed it. Some of the staff are also from the village and if you talk to them they know a lot and can even take you to the village. I wanted to check out late and I could stay until 13:00 free of charge which was also nice of them. It was an amazing experience, if I travel there I will go thete again. If there was air-condition or net for the balcony doors then you couldn't ask for anything more.

Verified reviewThe atmosphere here is super peaceful and calm. The rooms and the whole property are very beautiful. The staff was extremely nice and attentive and made me feel warmly welcomed. The beach is completely quiet thanks to the remote location of the accommodation. Pick up from Mombasa was offered. It was the perfect time for me to relax, though they also offer activities (boat tours, village tours, etc.)
Just one tiny suggestion: providing body lotion in the bathrooms (besides the shampoo and shower gel already provided) would be great.

Verified reviewThe environment was so serene. We felt like we had the place to ourselves. The beach was not crowded at all and we could just enjoy our stay in peace with no disturbance. The team was very friendly and always eager to offer assistance and comfort.The food was also very good and the cocktails too!we enjoyed trying their recommendations. On our first day,we arrived earlier and after we informed them,they had no problem at all. Infact after we arrived,we got another villa as we waited for ours ti be cleaned.The hospitality we got from Mwazaro was out of this world.We would recommend this place to everyone wishing to relax and feel free. My stay wasn't that pleasing.Mosquitos across the property, you can't lounge by the pool or eat a meal at the dinning without a bug spray.The staff have no boundaries had a few of them disrespected me .As a solo female traveller I wouldn't advise to travel alone.No wifi in the property.
