How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewReally lovely family. Come here if you want to relax with a locals family with song n dance. It cheap, has comfortable bed and friendly dog. Good birding in the area and monkeys, close to mida creek and a little village
Its fine for me but it is a rustic place where water from shower might stop so just know its not 3 star hotel but it is a comfortable place to relax for a few days and meet nice folks

Verified reviewMy stay with Harrison was fantastic. He is an absolutely joyful and warm person, taking you in with his family and the entire village from day one. He and his wife are great cooks as well! I was always looking forward to the fresh Mandazi in the morning or some nice Fish, Chapati and Githeri in the evening. The place itself is really an oasis, with lots of fresh air and insanely beautiful nature around. Captain Daniel will be the best guide ever to take you on trips through the mangroves and the island in the creek that hosts some old and unstudied Arab ruins and a gigantic old Baobab. The Nature Camp is really something special and so much more authentic than going to just another beach resort. However, if you want to spend your time at the beach as well, it's just a 25 minute boda-ride away and Hamisi will set you up with trustworthy locals to show you around and keep you safe. So no better entry into the local life, nature, and people than through mida creek nature camp. ;) + Never lived in a real (and high!) treehouse before, rarely saw such a beautiful night sky, and never had an entire boardwalk house to myself to pitch my hammock in and look over the creek. What a beautiful time I had there, truly.

Verified reviewFor those who want to experience the real African tribal culture, this is a truly it. You will receive an amazing welcome, experience the amazing traditional food that this tribe fishes and eats of the land. The host Harrison, will share so much knowledge with you and you will be able to see tribal dances and go on a canoe to amazing uninhabited islands in the mangrove swamp area. Nature lovers paradise.
Nothing that we did not like - but you must appreciate it is basic and not a hotel. That is a value not a negative - it’s how many of them live.

Verified reviewThe host is the most amazing host I've had. He'll kindly explain everything to you and make sure you have the best and easiest stay. Even when things don't go as planned, he'll find solutions. You will enjoy meeting Harrison and his family. Go and discover the Mangroves the tribe village restores and discover coco wine, these are musts !

Verified reviewHarrison is a great host. I learned a lot about local traditions and really enjoyed staying up in the tree house (cool setup and comfortable bed)! The camp is well located with the creek on one side and the swamp/forest on the other (where you might get to see elephants if you have enough time). Food was delicious and with very generous portions.

Verified reviewI had absolutely amazing time here. Harrison and his team were great hosts to stay with. They were waiting for me with coconuts while they were telling me briefly about their heritage and what one can do in this area. They also do workshops on how to build a thatched roof or cooking classes which was amazing! Night on the tree was so peaceful, I heard bush crickets and had a nice view from the treetop everytime I looked around! This was a great choice!

Verified reviewIf you can choose only choose one place to stay in this area of Kenya - make it this one. It is not only a camp for the night, but a way to learn about the lifestyle and community that lives around mida creek. Harrison, Daniel and the whole team took great care of me, and I can only recommend to go on a tour with them or to join the cooking class. The rooms are simple but clean, the food is amazing and you will spend time outside of the touristy areas at the coast. I am very grateful for the great conversations and this glimpse of local life that I could enjoy at Mida Creek Nature Camp!

Verified reviewJust the location
The facilities were poor
Hello Benjamin. We're really sorry that the facilities didn't meet your expectations. However, all the pictures and descriptions on this platform are representative of the camp, there are no lies, we don't pretend to be what we're not.

Verified reviewA wonderful experience. Harrison and his family were very welcoming. We were made to feel more like visiting friends than customers. There couldn’t be more of a contrast with some of the sterile, foreign-owned hotels around Watamu. This was a chance to really experience the local way of life at Mida Creek. We benefited enormously from his local knowledge when it came to transport and sightseeing. The food was all home-cooked, fresh and lots and lots of it! Don’t expect European-style facilities, but if you want a truly memorable, life-enhancing experience, this is it!

Verified reviewThis place is amazing, for nature lovers! I rated comfort less just because it would be good to have a comfortable place to charge the phone but all is stunning! Also the creek experience with Daniel, he is very kind, funny and knows a lot about it so you will never forget it!

Verified reviewWe leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place, we stay there, even though we go away. And there are things in us that we can find again only by going back there. Such a gem in today's modernity

Verified reviewWe spent four days over Christmas at the nature camp - it is so peaceful, truly in nature, surrounded by trees and the houses with palm roofs - all built by Harrison and team! We were only a few mins on foot to Mida Creek where we could see flamingoes every day. We ate there several times and the food was really great. We loved going to the creek at sunset with Daniel and Jonathon in a dug out canoe, we learnt so much about mangroves and it was possibly one of the most beautiful, peaceful places we've ever been. We also were treated to a Giriama dance on Christmas eve which was so amazing. The kids were so talented and put our dancing to shame when we got up to join! The best bit however is the team. Harrison is so welcoming and really takes care of his guests, and has a lovely family. Philip is so so kind and friendly, and a great driver! Recommend to future guests to bring power banks and also that there's a local shop 5 mins away for water and snacks for those that need.

Verified reviewThe place is REALLY good for someone who wants to experience being in nature and the local culture. Close to the creek and Harrison has many activities planned so be sure to plan for them. The food you order at the place is sweet and local . The portions are really much so don't order if you can not finish as a solo traveller.
No readily available electricity in the rooms to charge your devices so be sure to plan accordingly.

Verified reviewHands down one of the nicest campsites I’ve ever been to and that is not only thanks to the incredible location (just 10 min walking to Mida Creek), but also to the owner and the whole family living nearby. I felt really taken care of, not just as the client, but as a guest that is most welcome there. The owner explained how everything around the camp works, offered many interesting activities to do around (canoe trips, elephant watching, etc) and always went out of his way to ensure we have everything we need. I have booked a camping spot, but I got a free upgrade to the treehouse thanks to his kind offer! The campsite has great and clean facilities and is conveniently located to the main road going to Gede and Watamu both by matatu and mototaxi. There is also breakfast and dinner available upon request which you can enjoy in an AWESOME spot right next to the creek, which is very peaceful with almost no people around - the serenity of this place is one best things about it. I honestly can’t recommend this place enough if you are looking for something close to nature away from the tourist traps. It was a perfect base to explore the surroundings and it definitely deserves more recognition!
