Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandEverything was perfect. The hotel had suggestions for activities to do (walking tour, massage, dhow sail) and these were all first class and made our trip.
Lamu house is overlooking the sea with a magnificent view and a hub of activity. It’s a short walk to the port and close to the town and the boats.

South AfricaThe property is literally located in the main road. The noise from the neighbors and passersby could be heard in the property because the buildings are closely located to each other. As a light sleeper, I was easily woken up by outside conversations, clearly heard at night and early mornings.
The property is beachfront facing and close to all the attractions. The staff were friendly and made the stay comfortable. The property is beautiful and aesthetically pleasing if you are into a mix of modern and vintage. The restaurant also offers some good food if you are too lazy to dine outside.

United KingdomWe havent been to lamu for years and didn't know where to go. I found L H.and the stay was totally superb. The location is fantastic and right on the middle of lamu town , on the sea front but also, once inside , you'd never know you where in a town. The inner courtyard and pools and rest areas are like a hidden gem. The staff were totally amazing and could not have done enough for you. Esther to make bit a few people was incredible. The food is beautiful as is the rooms. The decor of the hotel is very in keeping and incredible. Could not have wished for a better stay !

United StatesNoisy because it is on the main road. Construction was happening and started up loudly and continue through the day. Lots of flies at breakfast but the fans helped.
Beautiful hotel and I think the nicest is Lamu town. Beautiful pool in a central courtyard. Restaurant was relaxed and plentiful servings with included breakfast. Staff very friendly and I appreciated the glass water bottles, and sustainable use of reusable shampoos in glass bottles.

United KingdomThe decor and design, the hotel was stunning with beautiful decor all over. It had a beautiful courtyard that our room overlooked. Perfect location in rhetorical heart of lamu with a stunning view of the water. The staff were all so kind and helpful. The barman made the best cocktails! Food was great, breakfast was an incredible feast, recommend the Swahili breakfast.

CanadaLamu Old Town is a step back in time, and if you remember that you can forgive the small transgressions of one accustomed to modernity..
The hotel was great, hanging out by the pool was wonderful. Reminded me of the Road hotels in Morocco with the pool in the centre open with plants around. The meals were all very tasty and portion sizes just right. The view from our balcony was informative and immersive to watch. Our room was kept spotless and netting around bed much appreciated, that being said we had only one mosquito bite between the two of us. Many people came by on the tour to take photos of the pool, I think the hotel was part of the tour of Old Town. Shout out to Esther at the front desk, always friendly and took care of any needs we had. Wifi was excellent.

United KingdomMy only reservation was that it was hot in the rooms as there is no air-conditioning but large fans in the rooms keep the room just about cool enough to sleep. We were there, however, in a very hot period.
The staff were really accommodating, couldn't do enough for you. Rooms were very authentic and clean. Food in the restaurant was very good. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay

KenyaThere were just a few things that could be improved. We needed a bottle opener in the room, to open the bottles of drinking water provided. There was no WiFi code in the bedroom, and we felt that the organisation of the transport to the airport left us a bit uncertain whether it would actually happen on time.
Location was great. Restaurant friendly, and the food was tasty. I loved the old Lamu building style, and having a balcony overlooking the busy waterfront. The room was airy and cool with plenty of space. It was nice to have daybed on the veranda. The courtyard pool is very attractive and the vegetation lovely.
