Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Great location with views over the watering hole which had lots of visitors. I was able to arrange a birthday cake for my husband which was presented with amazing singing of Hakuna Matata.

The animals come to you! No need to sit on rough roads for hours. Sit on the deck or have dinner or from your balcony watch the passing parade of lots of different animals. Staff great too.

AustraliaThat we couldn’t stay longer! The pool might take a renovation as tiles need some work. But this doesn’t detract from the place. The NP roads in are in poor condition. Some tarmac to the gate would be helpful
This lodge makes safari so easy - the animals come to you! Over our stay we saw LOTS of gazelle waterbuck elephant giraffe wildebeest zebra eland warthog buffalo hyena jackal birds and even a lion with cubs on the last night. All from the comfort of our dinner table or our room balcony. Staff professional and friendly. Rooms a good size and balcony a great view spot.Pool area peaceful

United StatesNothing, it was absolutely perfect and magical!
It was the best hotel experience in my whole life! Safari taken to a new level of comfort - when animals come right to you. We saw all kind of animals coming to the lake - zebras, antipopes, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, monkeys, even a lioness! All from the comfort of our balcony and the restaurant. We have been so amazed! Cherry on top, one evening we heard and then saw an elephant eating a bush right under our balcony. Also, this is one of the most comfortable hotels/safari experiences to get to from Nairobi. We took a luxurious train from Nairobi Terminus (about 3 hours), and then 1 hour hotel shuttle through the park. Staff, food, rooms, amenities - everything was on top. Thank you so much for this beautiful weekend, one of the best in my life!

RomaniaThe Serena group should definitely de-centralize the customer communication. We asked for a transfer from our previous resort and never got a concrete answer.
This resort has been probably the best one on our whole 2 weeks trip in Kenya. The rooms are spacious, all the staff is absolutely professional but nevertheless kind and friendly. We fully enjoyed our stay at Kilaguni... the room, the pool and expecially the restaurant with its magnificent view of the two potholes.

AustriaThey initially charged my credit card twice but replied within 24 hours and fixedd their mistake - very professional group to interact with.
The location is awesome - sitting on the deck with a view of the waterholes while elephants, zebra, wildebeest, hyenas, etc drink below with kilimanjaro in the background could not be better. The rooms are good, the pool is nice (you can do some birdwatching there), food is ok. The staff are really good.

GreeceThe food could be better, or more adjusted to westerners/europeans, meaning we found limited dishes matching our taste (sufficient though) since there was not great variety either.
The location was exquisite, just in front of a water hole, where animals come all day (and night) to drink water. It was the best hotel we stayed during our safari, with big rooms and comfortable beds, overlooking the water hole (some rooms, at least). Best lobby and bar/restaurant as well, also overlooking the water hole. Tsavo West is very scenic but it’s a bit difficult to spot animals because of the dense bush forest, however you can spot them at the hotel/water hole.

SwedenBats in the "ventilation space" between the balcony and the room. They don´t come in of course, but you hear them at night and they poop that fall on the floor/balcony. You don´t want have them there or to step in the poop when bats carry a variety of viruses.
Awesome place, even if you before you arrive have read good reviews about Serena Kilaguni, it will still surprises you! If you are a person that hesitate to go on a game drive (for example, due to medical problems, etc), you have them all here - the animals of Africa - and don´t have to leave the lodge. (but I recommend a game drive, of course) At breakfast, at lunch, at dinner you sit and take in the scenery of Tsavo. Awesome moment to see a big tusker (elephant) come by and have a drink ´with us´ at the water hole during dinner!. Good service, nice personell, very nice rooms towards the water hole, good food. Easy to book a game drive on site (don´t have to prebook). Pricewothy (at least the first week in june)

United KingdomIt would have been useful to have been told that I needed to purchase a pass to get into the Reserve, as would have made entry into the park a little smoother,
Absolutely everything was perfect. I visited at the end of a few weeks travelling, and was here to relax. I mostly spent my time on my balcony watching wildlife pass me by! It was absolutely perfect! So calm and relaxing, and just so surreal to see an elephant as you're sipping a g&t!!! The food was great, and all the staff were so attentive (special thanks to David K for giving me the perfect table at dinner!).I did 2 game drives, and although we didn't see too much, there was always something that made it special.
