The men's bath was pretty underwhelming. It was just one furo, which was actually fine, because I was often the only person bathing. A couple of times, there were one, or two, other men in the bath at the same time as me, but only very briefly. The main negative about Seikaiso for us was that there was only one key provided for our room. At check in, I asked the young front desk clerk if we could please have a second key for our room, since there were two of us. He just said, "鍵は一つしかないです," lol. I mean, okay, we made do with just one key, but it was pretty inconvenient. Either we had to just lock our valuables in the safe, and leave the door to our room open, or else, we had to always try to coordinate returning to the room around the same time as whoever happened to have the key. Guess we could've left the key at the front desk, but we were only there two nights, so we just texted back and forth to try to come back to the room around the same time. A couple of times, I had to sit on a chair in the hallway, waiting for my wife to finish bathing, or shopping, or whatever she was doing, so she could unlock the room to let me in. Having two keys to the room would've made our stay nicer, I think.

Seikaiso was nice. The location was great, right on the ocean. The sunrise views from our 4th floor room were fantastic. Staying at Seikaiso was interesting, in that many of the staff were 外人, like us. Many of the young staff members were international students from a local university. It was kind of nice to not be the only non-Japanese people at the hotel.

The hotel does not setup the bed for us for privacy but I prefer that they do it during our dinner.

The hotel provide private onsen for 1000 yen for 45 min. The food is good, typical ryokan food with beef, tofu and fried chicken, signature of Beppu. The in-room onsen is great with sea view. A little small but enough for 2 people. Our parent has room with foot bath which is nice for relaxing for long day of walk. The hotel is closed to the sea. The view from our room is nice.

Soundproofing could have been a bit better ~

The ocean view was amazing. Everything was clean and there was filtered water provided. We had the breakfast which was really yummy. There is also parking onsite

I thought the meals were mostly disappointing, especially the breakfast. Lots of little dishes, but I didn't enjoy them much. We had a private room for breakfast, though, which I did like. The large room for dinner had no windows. The waiter for dinner was very friendly and spoke English well, which was helpful, since he could instruct us on what to do!

We rented a private onsen which was nice, though a little small for 4 people. The room was spacious. Would have liked more surfaces to put bags on.

Some people may think that the hotel is outdated.

Japanese style bedroom was very comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were superb. Staff were friendly and will to help. Private outdoor onsen is a must for this hotel. Thus, the view from the onsen is splendid. Hence, the hotel is great for both family and couple.

It's a bit tired and somewhat overpriced.

The rooms were very spacious and the ryokan mattresses were quite comfortable. The view across the bay was very good. The traditional breakfast was enjoyable with a great variety of small dishes. Although a fair walk from the station, it was actually well situated for restaurants and bus stops.

The hallway walls and floors need to be redone. They were cracked and dirty which took away from the experience.

We thought we would have a private bath within our room (our bad). However, we booked the private outdoor "family" bath on the 7th floor and that was nice.

The meals were beautifully presented and delicious. The private onsen was amazing. The location right at the beach, with a nice walking path was very enjoyable.

Booking of the private bath can only be done in morning for same night, ie cannot book the night before. A bit inconvenient.

Enjoyed the indoor public hot bath very much. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Staff was helpful to call taxi for us to Jigoku Meguri. Easy to get from Beppu Station to hotel and vice versa. Catching the beautiful sunrise from balcony of room overlooking the sea.

Unable book kaiseiki dinner,they should ask us in advance when we book the hotel. Toilet and bathroom in the room is separated by one in the front and back.

Location was challenging but good overall, Beppu is larger than we anticipated and buses were very crowded/not readily available even in off season. Make sure you choose a location closer to what you'll be doing. When it was time to leave the hotel tried to call us a cab but they were too busy lol

The sink in our room was outdated and mole around the edges. The carpet in the hallway and wallpaper were outdated. The room we had breakfast view of the ocean was amazing, but the window needed cleaning.

Love the Ryukan style breakfast. It was an amazing experienced.
