How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe security guard Mr. Godden was very welcoming and nice.
The room was not giving what it was supposed to give. The room had spider webs, and the bed was not a queen size bed. There was a request for flowers the host didn't even look at the request. There was no tea or coffee

I have travelled to many countries and stayed in many hotels and this was Absolutely the worst place I have ever been to. We only stayed a few hours and couldn’t take it anymore and left to find something else. The place was the size of the bed, covered and I mean completely covered in tiny ants, billions. I couldn’t even walk on the floor without my shoes The shower did not have water, the bed was hard like cement blocks, with only 2 small pillows, no air conditioning no tv, a old dusty LOUD fan….so dirty and disgusting. Spider webs all over the place. We were the only guests and now we know why. The door guy was nice but the other woman was rude. if I could give it a -1 I would. I don’t know who wrote the previous positive reviews but they are not for this place.
We are sorry you had this experience. In Jamaica, always let your host know if you have trouble with the shower. The mattress is brand new (<6 months old), the listing does reflect that no AC is included, and because of the salt air, the fan is a bit rusted, but it was otherwise clean. We have other rooms that are more spacious with more amenities, but they are more expensive. The Cottage is a budget room for backpackers and overnighters, it is incomparable to a hotel room. Please be aware of the room that you book. The Cottage is located on the ground floor in the middle of the garden; if you leave food on the floor, it will attract insects. When the room was cleaned after your departure, we found bags of food on the floor. Safe travels.

There was not the hot water, and at our arrival nobody was expecting to see us: the room was not ready
It's too bad you didn't let us know you weren't getting hot water, we would have helped you to turn it on. Also, please keep in mind, we gave you a massive discount and upgrade by letting you and your colleague stay in the Double Room with Terrace after you booked the wrong room.

Verified reviewGreat location, close to Rick’s and some lovey restaurants.
You can’t pay for your booking on card/through booking.com and can only pay cash, Zelle (an app exclusive for USA banks- I am not American) or PayPal (which included a $5 fee that wasn’t made clear at the time of booking). If I had known it was essentially cash only beforehand, I would have withdrawn cash to pay for it but it’s too far away for that to be a feasible option when you need to check in right now. The properly was fairly clean, the main issue was the water pressure on the shower/the shower temperature. The gardens are lovely which is definitely a selling point to the property

Verified reviewUnfortunately I couldn't stay here 1 room was ok except for the shower which had no running water to shower The second room was the main problem it was a box with a double bed and a shower in a tiny cuboard space and again no shower water. We came from kingston straight to negril and the first thing we wanted to do is shower and we couldn't. I went out to dinner and when we got back to my room my sons play station was gone even tho we hid it behind pillow so we checked out and found somewhere else to stay. I didn't want to confront them as I know they wouldn't admit to it and was afraid to get into an argument with them. After I left ive messaged them called them and upto now no response back Avoid at all cost they are thieves. I Even tried so many times to contact booking. Com to complain but can't get to speak to anyone seriously this is a joke booking. Com have not called me even though I gave them my number in email.
Horrible sweat box rooms no water to shower and the staff are thieves
This is far from the truth. First, you never checked out, and you never made payment. You messaged us only AFTER you realized your Playstation device was left behind the pillow. It's now in our safe. If any moderators are reading this, please read the messages they sent us AFTER they left. They spoke with us on the phone as well. Their item was never stolen, they forgot it in the room along with a shower gel, and used towels. The water was/is fine, as the next checkin had no issues. They never contacted us about any issues and left without notifying anyone on the property. It is clear that if they never forgot their item, we would likely never hear from them again. As we mentioned on the phone, your device is at the property and would have gladly been returned or mailed to you provided you paid for the (2) rooms in which you left items overnight. This review however, is worth more to us than a video game. It also must be removed before we can return the item. This is the most unfortunate review and experience we have ever had. A clear lie if anyone can see the timeline of messages in the booking chat, or the conversation we had on the phone. Our staff has been with us for years and are highly trusted. Most of our guests arrive as tourists and leave as family, as reflected in all previous reviews. Please take this review with a grain of salt.

Verified reviewWe loved the location, the garden and the staff.
No water from the shower. Weird thing was that we were asked to pay about 10$ more for our accommodation, so the price per night is what you see +10$.
We are sorry about the water situation; we are going through a Negril-wide water shortage, but if you had mentioned something to us, we may have been able to do something about it. The $10 charge was charged by Booking.com as their commission fee.

Verified reviewCan Jam retreat is a gem in Negril! Julie and D were amazing hosts insuring that we were comfortable and relaxed. The whole island was without water for part of the stay (hosts were not at fault) and even with that our stay was exceptional. The nature surrounding the property is the best part, you can relax and enjoy what Jamaica has to offer! The coffee was superb and location was great as well! I will be back!

Just there was no water for a shower one time and it was always cold water. But it wasn’t too much of a big deal.

Verified reviewAmazing and peacefull garden, great and quiet location. We had a room with lots of privacy and an adjacent kitchenette. The staff helped us out with our laundry and when our car needed a new tire. Recommended for a more local feel and experience.
Shower wasnt working properly the first two nights but after they fixed it, it was fine. Be prepared for bugs in the room, which is to be expected in such surroundings.

Verified reviewGood location on the west end. Staff was very nice and had lots of helpful information when asked. The grounds are beautiful and it feels like you're many miles/kilometers away from any city when you're hanging out outside at the property. Having air conditioning in the room was great.
I know this is not a luxury stay, but the facilities were a bit disappointing. One night, the water in the shower basically trickled out of the shower head; the next night was somewhat better but still far weaker than most showers in Jamaica. There was no hot water, although some device that seems meant to provide hot water was attached to the shower head. The toilet was leaking and so we constantly had some water on the bathroom floor. The wifi was bad for anything other than the most basic web browsing and emailing, and our cell connection was weak in the room. There were fairly large spaces between the room door and the floor, making it even easier for various bugs to make their way into the room. I understand there are bugs when staying in a location such as this, but also having door that fits and isn't missing pieces at the bottom would be a small but helpful step to keep some out. The food and drink sold there (both with and without any "extras") is mostly more expensive than what you'll find in surrounding places, which feels a bit like taking advantage of the guests.
