How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location was great and the bed was comfortable. The staff was kind and very helpful.
This hotel seemed quaint but was so cluttered and over the top it was hard to feel comfortable in it. It was also impossible to feel like it was clean due to the amount of decor and items everywhere. The food items, while meant to be thoughtful, just added to the clutter and uneasiness of the room. There was also no elevator and the rooms are 4 stories up. We wanted something unique but this was too much.

Verified reviewFriendly check in and welcome, plenty of food options and cooking methods in your room, but no breakfast service.
If, like me you dislike busy decor and excessive clutter this hotel may not be for you. From weaving through the check in area without a spare foot of floor space to an exceptionally crammed room with not an inch to spare. I Wasn’t impressed having to feed the family for breakfast every morning from the vast variety of meats, cakes, yoghurts, breads, etc etc in the fridge supplied. I was impressed with the unique toaster that accepted two bun halves and two hot dogs at the same time !! Our son enjoyed the massage chair squeezed between the beds daily but it was just something else to stub my little toe on.

Verified reviewThe property was in a brilliant location close to everything within walking distance including mini-marts, bars & restaurants. A beautiful, old, Italian building with quintessential decor throughout. It’s extremely secure and the front desk is manned 24/7. The bed & pillows in the room were really comfortable and there was a massage chair & foot massager which we definitely made use of after long days walking around the city. The room has an array of food items all included within the price so you don’t have to worry about breakfast / snacks including meats, cheeses, fruit, yoghurts, coffee, croissants, bread etc. Upon arrival we were gifted a bottle of wine and upon leaving a lovely artisan bag of pasta! The staff were so friendly and warm which made the whole experience 5*. We would recommend to anyone visiting Rome for an authentic and homely stay.

Verified reviewStaff and location were great.
Small room cluttered with unnecessary gadgets including: two foot massagers, hot dog machine, electric kettle, back massager, and toaster. “Breakfast” consisted of pre-wrapped items pastries and a small amount of fresh fruit. Refrigerator had expired items inside and a random assortment of miniature drinks. Maybe there is a market for this type of hotel but I found it to be a little off putting and tacky in a lot of ways.
Dear Guest, we thank you for the detailed feedback and we would like to explain the reasons why our service appear to be not in line with your expectations. The rooms: our Hotel is in a 15th century palace built on Roman walls and therefore, due to architectural constraints, some of our rooms are larger and others a little smaller, but this is reflected in the room rate. We agree that some furnishings such as the shiatsu massage chair and foot whirlpool may not be essential, but our decades of experience in the Hotellerie teach us that most Guests appreciate them, especially after long walks throughout the day to visit the town. As for breakfast: again, thanks to our 60+ years of experience in Hotellerie, we understood that, rather than serving breakfast on site at tight and pre-established times, our Guests like to find different types of desserts, breads and savory snacks, as well as cold and hot drinks directly in their room, therefore always available, during the day or at night, completely free of charge. This way, our Guests can enjoy their favorite snacks or appetizers during the day or night, whenever they wish, all included in the room rate. All the foods and drinks we offer are of primary quality, daily replenished and carefully selected among typical specialties from different Italian regions. We take the offer of food and drinks in our Hotel very seriously, this is why we have dedicated staff who, every morning, check the expiration dates and the integrity of all the food and drinks that we offer. In addition, for those Guests who prefer a continental breakfast, we offer, as an alternative solution, breakfast at our own expenses in a well-known primary café down the square. Precisely, just because we care a lot about the quality of our service and the satisfaction of our Guests, we regret not having become aware of the fact that you found expired products in the room; it is a serious inconvenience that should be immediately reported to the Hotel Manager and therefore if you had informed us during your stay, we could have intervened promptly also with some kind of refund. Absolutely, we do not claim to change the feeling of your trip, but we hope to have provided some useful explanation to be able to have you as our Guest again, in a way to offer you an experience this time in line with your desires and expectations. With our warmest regards, Hotel Barrett

Verified reviewThe staff was amazing - especially the lady! Loved her! The location was great. Decor made it feel authentic
Way too much decor, stuffed into the common areas- made it very hard to move around and relax in those areas. I know the breakfast was set up in the room to make it possible to have breakfast because I don’t see anywhere else it could be served. Personally, I don’t eat a lot of packaged goods, so I was rather disappointed, not having the opportunity to have eggs every day.
