How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewI would like to approach several points that made our stay in Scilla just splendid. The location is just perfect and accessible, at the beginning of Chianalea which is less than 5 minutes from the port where you can book excursions to cross Messina strait, to cruise along Costa Viola and to the beach (less than 10 minutes). It is very clean and it is just by the sea with a balcony just above it which will give you magnificent views over Chianalea and, also, it is a perfect spot for a romantic dinner, being equipped with chairs and a table, or it can be an observation deck from where you can watch the fishermen sailing in the morning to catch fish. Also, it is equipped with 2 comfortable sunbeds for relaxing and admiring the beauty of this borgo. The property is very cozy and soon as you enter it you will be charmed by the sea inspired decorations, by the odeur of the sea and the constant calming music of the waves crushing just under your window. Now I would like to discuss about Giusy, our host, who has been just lovely, friendly, willing to help (she borrowed us beach towels, umbrella for the beach amongst many others) and proved an amazing hospitality - she literally left us a cabinet full of treats (croissants, cereals, milk, butter, jams), sodas, aperol, water in the fridge and even pie. Just under your balcony there is a stilish restaurant on the deck, just above the water, called Patriarca to which she helped us getting us a reservation where we served an amazing paccheri alla ghiota dish in an amazing ambiance. Now to be honest the entire experience was magnificent and it would not have been the same without Giusy and her home which she makes it feel like yours,as well, throughout your staying through her kind and welcoming attitude. Thank you, thank you, thank you! It was pleasure meeting you and staying at your place! I definitely recommend it for everyone and I would return here all over again!

Verified reviewHostess Giusi is warm, welcoming, lovely and responsive and had left many small nibbles and drinks, which were very welcome; she runs the restaurant underneath, so communication was easy. The accommodation is wonderful, in the heart of the historical fishing area of Scilla. The terrace is heavenly for relaxing, romancing, dreaming, eating, and watching the world go by; it is surely one of the best terraces in the world. The apartment is beautifully decorated and designed, full of exquisite touches, and within an authentic historical building. It was a joy to stay here, and I wish we could have stayed longer!

Verified reviewGuisy, the owner is a heartwarming person. She is great and her B&B as well. It is located in Chianalea, the old fishermen village of Scilla. This means, that the streets are very narrow, you have to leave you car on the port area. This also means, that you have no cars around and you have a fantastic view from the balcony to the Costa Viola. You can even observe the Swordfish-Fishermen on her boats. The room is very charming and below is the little restaurant of Guisy. Also highly recommended and don't worry, not loud at all.

Verified reviewThe location was excellent, with a fantastic view from the balcony. Our host Giusy was lovely, friendly and helpful, even saving us a parking space by the harbour and leaving us some lovely goodies to eat and drink on our arrival.

Verified reviewOne of the most beautiful locations and views one could have in Scilla. Loved the room - for the terrace and the harbor view and also being able to lie in bed and seeing the bay outside. Otherwise everything worked well, Giusy was very welcoming and helpful. She helped us with parking and a ride down from the town to the house (in the harbor)and was very flexible with check-in time.
We loved everything. If you have reduced mobility I’d make sure to get the room downstairs as the one upstairs is a climb up a fairly tight spiral staircase.

Verified reviewThe most beautiful accommodation we've ever been to! Balcony with an amazing view of the sea, where you can drink your morning coffee or evening glass of wine while watching the sunset! Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of waves! Comfortable and spacious bathroom (especially the shower cabin). Helpful and friendly host.

Verified reviewBeautifully decorated, spacious room in an idyllic setting with comfortable balcony directly overlooking the sea. Our host was very helpful by meeting us off-site, as we were in a rental car, to take us to nearby parking and show us to the property. It really is a stunning place, and had everything we could have wished for for our three-day stay. The location is perfect - just on the edge of the Chianalea part of Scilla: it's on the doorstep of bars/restaurants (we found it an advantage that some were closed for the year in mid-October as this meant it was very quiet at night), with the port and beach nearby. It's 10 minutes up steps to the main square, which might not suit those with limited mobility, but that's a hazard of staying by the coast in many Italian coastal towns.
Niente!

Verified reviewThe location was amazing on the seafront the balcony literally overlooked the sea Scilla is very pretty with amazing views the sea is a beautiful blue but very rough it was nice to sit at the seafront bar watching the waves crash in
The room was rather small not helped by a sloping roof when you sat in bed your head nearly touched the roof which was fine for the two days not sure I would have liked for much longer. Only can describe as quirky with lots of stuff everywhere. Check in was not the smoothest advised host of arrival time which wasn’t a problem until we got there. Door locked rang the bell let in by the cleaning lady said room wasn’t ready but could leave bags to come back in 10 mins which we did host greeted us when we returned to tell us in a offhand manner still not ready to come back no time given. No problem we will go for a walk drink & eat. Returned no one there received message to say she had gone & to message when we returned. Which we did arrived 10 mins later to show us the room take document details the keys & how to check out think all of this could have been done when we arrived as we didn’t want to stay in the room just wanted to check in & go out

Verified reviewIt was an amazing treat, a beautiful cosy nest perched just above the waves, with it's own little terrace to take in the morning sun. Lots of thought and attention to detail had been invested in it and Guisi was a warm and welcoming host. The bed was comfortable a good shower and good facilities for making a breakfast snack.
