How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat cabin close to Husavik. Cabins situated with tons of vegetation and nature surrounding you and with excellent views.
Bathroom is very tight.

Verified reviewWe loved the grounds with private lake and good bird habitat. I had forgotten a pair of earrings, and the cleaning person had already put them aside for me! She was very sweet.
It’s not a great place for large adults.

Verified reviewI loved the fact that it felt like you were in the middle of nowhere - even though it was a 2 min drive to the city. Both my partner and I also loved the genereal feeling of being cozy in the cottage.

Verified reviewIt was peaceful in a perfect location, in front of the lake.
In generally the smell of the water because of the sulfur.

Verified reviewWe stayed here for 2nights as a relaxing stop whilst travelling around Iceland. Made a really nice mini break in our 2 week holiday. Nice private cabins in the trees. Staff all very helpful and offered to be there as required for any issues, which we didn't have any. Cooking facilities enough for the two of us, everything you need. We had one of the hot tubs close to our Cabin which was great to relax in and watch the lake and Ocean. Cosy feel to the place and would recommend if you like a wooden cabin vibe to chill in. Either a long walk or short drive into town. Bonus supermarket being very close by.

Verified reviewGreat to have the spa on site, very private space with lots of grass and trees around, although paths need to be maintained and greenery cut back. The veiw was great but obstructed. Hosts were super helpful and lovely. Went above and beyond to be helpful, but internet was terrible and there were no binoculars in the cabin. Clean cabins, close to town if you have a car.
Cabins are very small, especially the bathroom. Better place for couples rather than friends. Water smelled like sulpher. Whole place needs some money spent on it. Tired and old, but good vibes.

Verified reviewWe loved staying in this cozy wooden cabin in the woods. The property has its own pond and walking trails. Great bird watching area and scenic views out to the mountains. The added bonus were several hot tubs scattered amongst the cabins. Only a short drive to Husavik for whale watching, good restaurants, groceries and shopping. The cottages are a great base for exploring north-central Iceland.

Verified reviewThe cabin’s proximity to the lake was nice. Peaceful views and serene environment.

Verified reviewThe cottages are in a very nice place. Very clean, cozy and well cared. Also note that there is a reception (we should start refusing to go to accommodations where you do not even see the host) with very friendly attention and care about the environment.
Our cottage 17 had just enough space for 4 people. We were well because we were 3.

Verified reviewThe location is a dream: out in the countryside with the most fantastic views you can imagine - but be careful which cabin they give you - some have no view.
Way too expensive! Hotels in the neighbourhood are often cheaper and you get more for your money, like breakfast, for example, and modern plumbing. Our cabin was showing its age a bit. That can be charming, but new shower taps, modern electrics, etc, would make a big difference. If you're a big person, you will struggle moving about, especially in the bathroom, which is tiny, tiny.

Verified reviewBeautiful location set in bush land overlooking a lake and snow covered mountains
I’ve no objection to emptying the rubbish, but asking to strip the bed linen is a bit cheeky and an increasing trend

Cabin would be slightly too small for 4 people. But was fine as there were 3 of us

Verified reviewNice, quiet and beautiful location
The layout of the cabin was poor, bed only accessible from one side. Bathroom was too small, for bigger people practically impossible to sit on the toilet.

The accommodation was cramped and the electrical wiring and sockets were rather concerning.

Verified reviewCozy well equipped cabin with as much or as little to do as you want! Surrounded by nature and wonder, but close to Husavik. Could stay at the property and use a boat on the lake, fish, bird watch, soak in the hot tub, etc., It is even possible to walk or drive to town to eat, shop, go to Geo Sea spa or JaJa Ding Dong bar and Eurovision museum. Had a great time and the hosts are lovely and very helpful- we were not smart about how to work the temperature of the shower and they came over to show us!
The path to the cabin was dark and we arrived late so it was hard to make out but not impossible

Verified reviewThe cottage was really amazing and well equipped. We didn't cook, but I could see that everything you would need was there. It had a beautiful view out the front of the Fjord, and I could see by the comments written in the guest book that the well marked trails were worthwhile for bird watching and just hiking. For our purposes, it was perfect. We were looking for a location near Myvatn without the high price of a touristy hotel. Highly recommended.
Our front door lock was difficult to manage with a "finicky" key....especially late at night in the dark. This really needs to be replaced. There were hot tubs available for free use, but only if you wanted to share with others. They were always in use. They were in a nice spot and lit up at night. A nice amenity, but unpractical for our personal preferences.
