How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Most furniture was quite worn and dated, beds were a bit squeaky and an appliance in the kitchen was broken. They were really minor things overall.
Great location, in walking distance of the nature museum and the centre of Reykjavik the host was so kind and really made sure all guests had everything they needed, such as complimentary coffee, towels and even free access to the washing machine and drier. We initially booked two beds in a mixed room but upon arrival we were showed to the all female dormitory, which we really appreciated. The entrance/ common and sitting area were also under video surveillance so it overall felt pretty safe. We did also have the option of locking our room. Toilets and showers seemed newly renovated, though regardless, I would always recommend brining slippers with you if you stay at hostels.

Tiny and stuffy room, not comfy, but only needed it to crash after a long drive. I got what I needed out of it for the most part.
Easy to find, free parking lot, clean place, friendly staff, cheap for Iceland. I think I got the last bed of the night so I felt lucky not sleeping in my car.

Its very old and need renovation. Shower was clean but old, smell was not good. Noizy beds

I did t like the fact that I could not wash my clothes. I was asked to pay if I want to wash. I think that should change.

it is a bit of a walk away from center - about 15-20 min to the central church, but you can always use one of the scooters on crossroads… it is a hostel after all, so yes, common areas are … well, common… the receptionist gentleman may come across as grumpy, but I think it’s the language problem and just the age;) it does cost quite stiff for what it offers, but that’s Reykjavík…
we read reviews - mixed and some negative, so we had adequate expectations. we booked a twin/double room. the owners do take feedback aboard - there is a code lock on front door, the common area is clean and quiet, the receptionist older man is trying to clean common areas often. shared bathrooms and showers are clean enough for a hostel. we did not use kitchen but when passing by it looked clean enough too. Wi-Fi works fine. the older receptionist always had a younger guy hanging around helping with translation when needed.

common shower and wc for men and women. thou the owner tried its best to make it clean some tenants are really dirty. families with small kids should not share with single travelers its a little bit uncomfortable . specially if ur purpose is to be out and get ready early you will be so shy to move coz u might wake the little ones.
the owner / staff are all very nice. they are trying their best to keep the place tidy and homey.

A very reasonably priced accommodation, fairly close to Reykjavik town center and very close to Bus Terminal. Most importantly, just a 5 min walk to amazing Perlan!!! The owner was helpful and friendly.

Muhammad the host was friendly and helpful even drove me to the bus station when I left. He showed me the mosque upstairs which was large and clean - I didn't expect that! I had to work during the night and he provided me a quiet place to work on my own without disruptions. It's 5 minutes walk from Perlan. It's 20 mins walk from the Main Church in the city center and affordable place to stay

It was my first time to travelling in Iceland. The staff was very helpful. They allowed me to store my luggage when I went hiking, gave me lots of recommendations for the trip and noticed me when the aurora light appeared…
