How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe apartment was great, with a separate bedroom for us, and twin beds for the children in the living area. Ours was at the back off the building so much quieter. We could hear the band next door but it was a non-issue as it finished promptly at 11pm each evening (sun - wed, I don't know if weekends are the same. The location is fantastic. Shops, restaurants and transport on the doorstep. The bus station for trips is a pleasant 15 min walk as is the harbour. The apartment was clean, well kept and the beds were super comfy.

The building and corridors smelled terrible. Apartment was very old. Above a bar so music until 11pm and the shouting people for another hour or 2.

Verified reviewThe fire alarm went on every evening at the same time for no apparent reason. As there are no employees on site, it took ages for someone to come and have a look as the guests were not able to reach someone.

This place is just over a live band bar that will share the building until midnight.

Verified reviewThe location is great
We received a totally different apartment than the ones you can see in the pictures. Uglier and older of course… when i complained they offered a minimal refund that NEVER arrived to my bank account. Also, 3 out of 5 nights the fire alarm went off around 11 in the evening. We did not receive any information and the staff did not answer the phones for 20 minutes.

This was the worst accommodation for 200 euros a day that we have ever rented. First of all, the apartment is located above a bar where live music plays every single day until 11 PM, and drunken tourists yell. Of course, no one will tell you about this. This surprise will be waiting for you upon check-in, along with earplugs on the table. During our 5-day stay, the place was never cleaned. The apartment was cold, the heating was turned off, and the staff didn’t even bother to turn it on. The apartment only warmed up by the third day. Don’t stay here if you don’t want to ruin your experience of Iceland.

Verified reviewVery central location, but they won’t tell you that it shares the building with a very lively bar with live music every night. The music is loud enough that it sets off fire alarms apparently every night. People leave the bar at all hours of the night and someone even got into a fight on the street in front of our window
Everything. Minimal help with anything, tried to call and got no answer. Bathtub was falling apart, no shower curtain to even be able to shower, broken down furniture, TV didn’t work, no laundry in building, CRAZY noise levels. I’ve traveled pretty extensively and stayed in dorm style hostels far nicer and way cheaper

Verified reviewThe location was really beautiful.
The description of the hotel doesn't mention that the bathroom is NOT ATTACHED to the room. This was really upsetting. The description is misleading. And finding towels was tougher than finding diamonds.

Verified reviewThe location was fantastic. If you like quietness take into consideration that the property is located in a lively street so expect some music and noises till 11pm. The music wasn't a problem for us, we considered it as part of the place and even enjoyed it (there was playing some good music out there). There is a good customer service, you get immediate feedback on working hours, otherwise just expect next day for the answer.
For my bad answer on the last question (How easy was it to collect the property keys on arrival?) - It was not that good because we arrived after midnight and it seems being the next day, our code did not function. We were too tired and nobody answered (we didn't expected someone to answer at 1.30am) but at last we managed somewhat to enter. Anyway next day we got prompt answer and everything was fine. I gave the bad feedback just for the company to take into consideration cases like ours as there were a lot of flights arriving in Iceland in the early morning.

Verified reviewLocation was perfect! It’s within walking distances stance to shops and cafes.
Lamps were not working; tv wasn’t working and shower pressure was weak. There was a loud party nearby until early morning.

Verified reviewWe had two absolutely gorgeous studio apartments with balconies, and could not have been happier. They were both beautiful and very comfortable, with spacious bathrooms. Very stylish. We felt very posh! The kitchenette had everything we needed, even a toaster and espresso pods for the Nespresso machine. We had zero issues getting into the building or our apartments with the provided codes. They tell you upfront in the property description that it is a bit noisy when there is live music in the bar below (which is apparently a Reykjavik institution, and well worth checking out), but the music does end at 11pm, and for us, that was not an issue. We slept very well in the comfortable beds. And overall the location is unbeatable! Would absolutely recommend.

Verified reviewLocation comfortable bed size of apartment
Very noisy at night (till early hours of the morning) even with earplugs that were supplied. It comes from nearby bars so not in the owners control. It is however really difficult when the noise persists till after 3 am! Poor quality pillows Furnishings a bit tired (especially sofa) Luggage room was not lockable on the day we arrived Need information in the room re: Wifi, working the tv, getting more towels etc.
Dear Calum, Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re glad you appreciated the location and comfortable bed. We apologize for the noise from nearby bars, which is unfortunately beyond our control, but we do provide earplugs to help. We also appreciate your comments on the pillows, furnishings, and luggage room, and will review these to improve. We’ll work on providing clearer information in the apartment about WiFi, TV, and towels for a smoother stay. Thanks again for sharing! Best regards, Nikol Usheva, Customer Success Specialist

There was strong sulphur smell in bathrooms while water was running. so much we couldn't breathe. The fire alarm was very sensitive.. it started and the police had come down There was no manual on incase the fire alarm goes on! The luggage storage room wasn't working No coffee pods and no response when contact directly. Overall a really bad experience.
Dear Kumar, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations, and we appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. Regarding the sulfur smell, we understand it can be surprising — Iceland’s geothermal water naturally carries this scent, and while completely safe, it’s not something all guests are accustomed to. We appreciate your understanding on this unique local feature. In terms of the fire alarm, our system is designed to be extremely sensitive for safety reasons, and it does automatically alert emergency services when triggered. We do provide a digital guest manual with instructions on what to do in such situations, and we’ll review how we can make this information more visible. We’re also sorry to hear you had trouble accessing the luggage storage and didn’t receive a timely response regarding the coffee pods — that’s not the experience we aim to provide, and we’ll follow up internally to improve our communication going forward. That said, we do feel it’s important to mention that the apartment was left in a very poor state after your departure, requiring our housekeeping team to spend significantly more time than usual to restore it. As we strive to offer all guests a clean and welcoming space, we kindly ask that house rules be respected to help us maintain high standards for everyone. We do appreciate your feedback and hope that the rest of your time in Iceland was enjoyable. Best regards, Nikol Usheva, Customer Success Specialist
