How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewEasy to find. Late check in. Beds are very nice and room was adequate size. Enjoyed the common area spaces for using internet and relaxing. I should have ordered the Icelandic breakfast in advance. The handmade items for sale are truly appreciated.
There are 2 shared bathrooms for 5 couples which wasn't a problem for us but not ideal. 2 couples were making food and doing dishes in the community areas until almost midnight which was 2 hours past the quiet hours. We didn't mind much, but if you want an early start it's good to know that this really quaint and awesome place is communal to a small degree.

Verified reviewElisa, our host, was welcoming and accommodated us with laundry facilities. Our bedroom, as well as the shared bathrooms and toilets, were clean. The location was ideal for exploring the east coast (we went to Borgarfjarðarhöfn to see puffins).
There are shared bathrooms and toilets, but this is clearly indicated when you make your reservation. It's OK for a short stay.

Verified reviewFriendly staff, great atmosphere, pleasant place to be. Clean. Good breakfast and dinner offered at reasonable price.
Room is very small (7m2), not matching the high price.

Verified reviewThe host Odinn and his family attended to every need. I recommend the breakfast, it was good value. (So was the guesthouse generally.) Very peaceful surroundings. The front patio and foyer were nicely decorated.
It’s fairly remote - 25-30 minutes from any retail establishment (gas, grocery, or restaurant). That can be good or bad depending on your needs.

Verified reviewA 4 bedroom available for families.
Little space for the guests or the amount of guests in the guesthouse. Eating area small. Dishwasher not functioning. Washing machine broken. Curtain partially torn. General impression could be better maintained. Host not very friendly.

Verified reviewThe guesthouse is only a few minutes driving away from the main road and was easy to find. Nice view outside. The kitchen was good with all things needed. The guesthouse looks cozy and guests were able to get relaxed and have some chat in the dining room. We had a good time talking with travelers from different places. The host was nice and friendly.
The side of bathtub is moldy.

Verified reviewThe communication with the host was perfect. They made the check in easy, even allowed us to check in really late (when everyone was asleep).
It got really noisy really early, after a long day of driving, walking, exploring, so I didn't get the rest I needed. But that's not a fault to the host, but the guests so nothing bad to say about Litlabjarg!

Verified reviewThe hosts are wonderful people: very helpful and friendly. The kitchen was a nice touch and one could prepare their own meals and save some money. A very quiet environment off the beaten path.
The shared bathrooms had to be navigated with multiple couples spending the night. Pretty far from stores or restaurants. The bedroom was small, although the beds were comfortable.

Verified reviewThe Guesthouse is easy to find. The car is parked in front of the house. The kitchen has everything you need. The hosts are very friendly. The rooms are small with the exception of the 4-bed-room but you have a large pergola you can sit on, an d if weather permitting, there is a large terrasse too. The internet is very good.
Everything is fine.

Verified reviewHost was friendly, responded fast.
Value for the money was very poor. Information about the room facilities is misleading (e.g about shared bathroom). Only two toilets with bath/shower and sinks for all the guests, bathrooms were dirty and moldy. Furniture in the room was very tired. The pillows and blankets were very old and bumpy. Room was stuffy. We could hear other guests in their rooms and hallway, the doors were creaky. The kitchen was too small, only one little table for breakfast.

Verified reviewNice views and very quiet in a farmland area. Great to get to when going out to the remote area of Borgarfiridi, where we went to see puffins up close. The owner is really nice and made breakfast and they also offer to make dinner, which is basic but done well.
Compared to our other locations the rooms weren’t as comfortable and well kept for the same price range, but they just built in a new kitchen and offer coffee and other drinks to affordable prices.

Verified reviewSet in a picturesque landscape yet easy to find and get to. The guesthouse is well appointed with many little things to help you be comfortable, particularly in toiletries. It has a very homey feel to it. Breakfast and dinner are available on request for a fee. We didnt order but saw a couple who did and it looked great. Laundry is also available. Great outdoor deck for a meal outside if you wish. Self check in is easy, and the hosts very kind. Elise has Icelandic sweaters for sale and the price is very fair if you are looking to buy one. I would definitely recommend this guesthouse to anyone passing through. Proximity is great to start or end with Studlagil Canyon, which should not be missed.
Nothing, it was great. ❤️
