Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesBoiled eggs at breakfast were a bit too over cooked.
Kex Hostel was exactly as expected. We were just looking for a place to sleep and shower and it was perfect for that. We stayed in a private room for 2 people. Rooms were basic but clean and gave just enough space to be able to move around. Bathrooms were modern and clean. There was some construction outside but we were warned before arriving and they have ear plugs at the front desk for guests. The common room/ bar area was nice to hang out in and staff were very welcoming. We had breakfast 1 morning and it was okay. We left full but opted to try some other places for the rest of our time in Reykjavik. We rented a car during our time in Iceland and there was parking around the hostel. Parking in the nearby parking garage was a bit pricey but Iceland is pricey overall. We felt safe walking around at night and felt that we were close enough to shops, cafes, restaurants, and key spots like Harpa Concert Hall. I would stay here again if returning to Reykjavik.

AustraliaRooms were small and not ultra clean, I have stayed in cleaner places. Lockers in the room are practically impossible to use due to shape and size. Most bags didn't fit under beds either, so room became crowded. Not such a friendly vibe. Kitchen areas were dark and not enough seating for the number of people. Lighting in bathrooms also very dark.
Funky hostel in old biscuit factory. Some nice communal areas and great laundry facilities. Kitchen areas well equipped. Staff were welcoming and efficient. Beds were comfortable, had privacy curtains, own charging spots and clean.

United StatesMore flat shelf space in the bed area.
The location is walking distance to very good food choices, tour bus stops, and tourists interests. Front desk and cleaners were all very professional and helpful. Breakfast, good and the social area is attractive and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the curtain did a good job of blocking the sunlight through the night.

FranceNot enough choice in the buffet breakfast. Lack of kettle in our room or in common area.
Close to city center, everything can be done by foot. Possibility to let our luggages before and after our stay. Quiet room even with construction noise. Well decorated room and common areas.

ArgentinaThere’s no elevator to the upper floors, which can be inconvenient with luggage. Also, breakfast is quite expensive—though that seems to be the norm in Iceland.
Excellent location and beautifully designed facilities. Everything feels new and thoughtfully decorated, creating a very welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. You truly feel like you're staying somewhere special.

It was near Bus Stop#9, the grocery store, & coffee shops. Domino's Pizza and a burger place are across the parking lot. The Sun Voyager and Harpa Concert Hall were only a few minutes walk. The tap water is drinkable. Near the cruise port.

CanadaKitchen lacked cutlery and cooking pots making it hard to cook if more than one party was using the kitchen. Some guests having loud, personal and long conversations on their phones in the shared areas made it a little awkward to share the space.

BelgiumI stayed here for practical reasons, arrived very late and left early. Rooms with 42 beds are not my kind of thing but it was well organized and managed and there fore feasible
Very convenient if you need just a place to sleep, probably best budget option in Reykjavik. Central location. 24h reception is very practical for late and early arrivals (because nothing opens before 9 on weekends in Reykjavik). Well organized and relatively clean seen the huge rooms...

United KingdomThe cleanliness of the bathrooms needs improvement, as well as some lacking in toilet roll. More availability of private showers on each floor would also make this hostel better.
The location of the hostel is great being just a 5 minute walk from the main area. Staff were very friendly and are able to store any luggage securely prior to check in. The bar area is comfortable and a nice social area. The beds were comfortable with bed linen, pillow and plug sockets and a lamp next to each bed. The bottom bunks had a lot more privacy than the top ones with a curtain and privacy screen.
