How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis hotel restaurant delivers an absolutely exceptional dining experience. The chef demonstrates remarkable creativity and playfulness while maintaining Michelin-level standards, crafting dishes that are both wildly innovative, locally sourced and expertly executed. Without question, this was the finest meal of our entire Icelandic journey. The hotel is beautifully decorated, creating an inviting and sophisticated atmosphere throughout. The thoughtful design choices contribute to a genuinely relaxing environment that feels both elegant and relaxing.

Verified reviewGood location
The bed mattress was extremely uncomfortable, the bedroom walls were so thin that every time somebody closes its bedroom door, our bed frame was shaking ! The restaurant’s quality was poor both for dinner (poor quality meat) and for breakfast with the most limited breakfast buffet we had during our 12 days stay in Iceland. The opening hours of the pool are so limited that if you arrive after 7pm at the hotel for a one night stay, you have no chance to enjoy it.

Verified reviewThe hotel is impeccably run, with great staff, services, and facilities. Unique and creative foods to taste at the on-site restaurant. I was also impressed with the available activities in the:area. Perfect for my three day stay there. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful with great views of the glacier, and it was different from the landscape around the golden triangle.
Hotel Husafell met and then exceeded my expectations in every way.

Verified reviewAmazing location, food and staff. Thank you Szilvia to make our stay more comfortable.
The opening times could be a bit longer. For example, the pool opens at 10 am and closes at 8 pm while it is sunny and light until midnight. The Bistro also closes at 8 pm, so you need to plan your day well.
Dear Eva, Thank you so much for your kind words! We are happy to hear you enjoyed the location, food, and especially the hospitality from Silvia. We take great pride in consistently receiving positive feedback from guests regarding our staff. We also appreciate your thoughtful feedback regarding our opening hours. While we’d love to keep them open later during the bright summer evenings, certain operational and safety considerations prevent us from extending hours at this time. That said, we completely understand how this can affect your plans, and we’re working on making this information as clear as possible before guests arrive, both on our website and in booking details. Our pools have extended opening times during summer from 10:00 to 20:00. Thank you for taking the time to give us valuable feedback. We hope you visit us again in the future. Kind regards, Hotel Húsafell team

Uncomfortable spring bed. Hot springs were a disappointment.
Dear Renae, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are glad to hear that you appreciated the breakfast included during your stay. It is always our goal to provide value and convenience to our guests. We apologise that some aspects of your visit did not meet your expectations. Our hot springs have been newly renovated, featuring two hot pools, two warm pools, a cold plunge, and a steam bath. They have extended opening hours during the summer, from 10:00 to 20:00. There is a bar on site, offering a variety of drinks you can enjoy while you bathe. In addition to the hot springs, which are included in your hotel stay, you have the option of booking a guided tour to the Canyon Baths nearby. Your comfort is essential to us, and we’re taking your comments into consideration as we continue to work on improving both our accommodation and amenities. We hope you will consider giving us another opportunity in the future to provide you with a more comfortable and enjoyable stay. Kind regards, Hotel Húsafell team

Verified reviewNice, clean hotel near activity centre for Ice Cave.
My daughter left her swimming suit in the shower but they did not find it. Also, we booked the Ice Cave tour through the Husafell hotel website. When we arrived at the activity centre to get on the bus, they couldn’t find our booking and the driver, Atilla, wouldn’t let us on the bus. He said there was no space. It turned out that there was space on the bus and we could have gone up to base camp and sorted out our ticket. We were traveling in a group so our group went ahead. We agreed to go on a later time and so missed our activities with our group in the afternoon. The Ice Cave was one of the reasons we came to Iceland so was disappointing to have had that experience.
Dear Andree, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're truly sorry to hear about the issues you encountered during your stay. Regarding the missing swimsuit, we understand how frustrating it must be to lose a personal item while travelling. Although our pool staff did their best to locate it, we sincerely regret that it was not found. We're especially sorry about the difficulties with the Ice Cave tour booking. We understand how important this experience was for your trip, and we regret that there was a difficulty attending the tour at the same time as the other part of your group. Please know that when we learned about the problem, our team did their best to assist and investigate the situation. However, as the Ice Cave tour is operated by an independent company, there was unfortunately a limit to how much we could do in the moment to resolve the issue on your behalf. Please bear in mind, we are not operating the tour, we are only selling the tour tickets, just like many other ones you can find on our website. We are already reviewing our booking procedures and communication protocols with our tour partners to ensure a smoother and more reliable process for the future. We hope you'll consider visiting us again so we can provide the seamless and memorable experience you had hoped for. Warm regards, Hotel Húsafell team
