Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyNot having any face-to-face contact with an actual human being during my stay (e.g., there were no staff on site that I know of and all access codes were provided online) was a bit odd. It would be useful to have larger lockers for guests (e.g., in the rooms) that you could close with a padlock.
The location is very practical and the facilities are very modern and clean.

FranceThe room itself has 2 bunk beds (fits 4-people is very small. The floor is plastic (lino) and it's deteriorated because some people pushed one of the 2 bunk beds. The view is on the parking. There is no one from the hostel that we could meet. We didn't see any physical reception. Communication was very clear but only virtual.
We think it was formerly a hospital converted into a hostel. It's a very big. Well equipped with many common areas. It also look very secure for the ones travelling alone. It's also very clean. It's super well located to visit the city center by foot. It's next to one of the Sundhollin public baths in Reykjavik (2-min walk) that we recommend to try out !

Canada.
We had a really good stay here. We actually booked the room last minute while sitting in the parking lot, since our plans changed due to the weather, and everything worked out perfectly. The price was higher compared to other hostels we stayed at, but that’s understandable since we booked late, while others we reserved in advance. Booking through the app was quick and easy—we received the room codes within five minutes. We stayed in a quadruple room, which was clean, had towels provided, and the beds were comfortable enough. There were plenty of washrooms and showers on the floor, all very clean and well maintained. The manager was always around, very helpful, and even found us space to dry our tents. The kitchen wasn’t very large but was clean and well stocked with plates, utensils, and pans. We didn’t cook during the busiest times, but I can imagine it might get crowded. Extra perks: the parking lot is free, and there are luggage storage lockers right by the entrance, which are much cheaper than at the BSI terminal. Overall, we had a smooth and pleasant experience here and would definitely recommend this hostel.

United KingdomHad to share the bathroom with everybody in the hostel as the bathrooms were by the main entrance. Fellt a bit weird like using a public toilet. Probably wouldnt put mother and 12yr old child on ground floor next to main entrance, felt a bit vulnerable, but nice secure door lock.
simple to check in - emailed details but no reception staff to talk to.

AustraliaThis hostel gives industrial vibes, not overly welcoming and a bit uncomfortable. The whole place needs an upgrade, especially the bathrooms. For a single night it was fine but I probably wouldn’t stay any longer.
This was a single night stay for an early morning flight for me. If you are after a bed in a safe accomodation, and close to the centre this will be fine. I didn’t use the facilities (kitchen etc.) so can’t comment on that.

IcelandApparently the fire alarm goes off in the whole building if somebody lights a cigarette in their room (as indicated on many signs in the hallway). That alarm went off in the middle of the night, was on for about 15 minutes and of course woke up the whole building. It is difficult to put in words how annoying that was and of course nobody knew who was guilty.
Excellent location, very simple and easy check-in and all shared facilities were in top condition. We were pleasantly surprised at how big our family room was and how comfortable the bed was.

CanadaThe kitchen is quite small and a little difficult to manage.
This was a great place to stay. A very functional kitchen allows you to cook your own food. The kitchen is small but there is another room where you can eat. The rooms are comfortable and surprisingly quiet for such a large building. I very much appreciated being able to enter the building in the morning while waiting until 3:00pm to be able to,get in to my room.

Great location in downtown Reykjavik. Close to major sites in town. Free parking on site. There were also 8 level 2 charging spots within 50m of the hostel. Also liked the building itself. Rooms were very clean. Beds were warm and comfy.

United StatesThey made us rent two rooms even though the family room had enough beds for our entire 7 person family. I did not understand their reasoning but figured it was a money grab thing. We ended up paying for the second room and not using it because we all fit in the one room. It’s a bustling hostel with people from all over. Everybody seems nice but lots of folks smoking in the parking lots and hanging around by the doors. Hot water smells like rotten eggs but I guess that’s a thermal water thing?
Proximity to downtown was great. The family room was comfy enough for a single night.

Netherlands1 thing i didnt like but that is in no way the hostels or its staff fault. Big groups. They take up to much space in the kitchen.
There isnt much staff. But they are very friendly and helpfull. I had a favorite room and when i asked for it they gave me the room when possible. Cleaner team is awesome. I was close to the best shower and slso the kitchen. I stayed much longer than planned. I met a lot of interesting and beautiful people. Great stay. Will end my vacation here when im done exploring the country.

United KingdomWhole place feels like it needs updating. Eg new white bedsheets instead of orange, new LED lighting in corridors, shelves in the bunks. But overall comfortable enough for my stay of 4 nights.
Amazing location. Always easy to find because you just walk towards the big church spire in the skyline! Great kitchen.

AustriaUnfortunately, beds and linen were quite uncomfortable. Sometimes people in the hall were quite loud in the early morning when they were checking out between 6 and 7 am.
Overall a very nice hostel in a good location. We had two single beds in one room and the room was quite spacious. There was a faucet in our room, which was very convenient. The shared bathrooms in the hall were always clean and we never had to wait to use one.
