How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Verified reviewThe hotel is perfectly located, just a few minutes from the Secret Lagoon and with easy access. The staff are very friendly and always willing to help, which makes the stay very pleasant. There is also a supermarket, gas station, and restaurants nearby, which is very convenient
However, our experience with the room (number 11) was disappointing in terms of cleanliness. Upon arrival, we found dirty sheets, pillows stained yellow from sweat, the kettle full of water, and even a medication container on the nightstand. We checked in at 7 pm, and although the staff came promptly to clean the room and make the bed once we complained, this should not have happened in the first place.

Verified reviewIt worked out to be the perfect location for us. We updated our ETA many times and the hotel staff was flexible regarding late check in.- we picked up the keys at its sister hotel lobby acrossthe street. It was almost midnight when we arrived. We booked two rooms (last minute, when our flight landed) for 3 adults. Both rooms were very clean and comfy. We were so lucky to have these rooms were available. The hotel is a short drive to the secret lagoon in Fludir. There is a charging station and a gas/diesel station at the parking area. There are basically two restaurants just outside our hotel doors (one at the sister hotel restaurant across the street and one just outside our door). The surrounding is very beautiful, serene and peaceful. We love this place. The "guesthouse" is a little over 20 minute drive from Gullfoss (most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland in our humble opinion) and the Geysir center.
The windows didn't have blackout shades or curtains. The sun didn't set during our stay 😀 The Booking.com website didn't allow us to stay in one roomy family room with 3 adults. We ended up booking a separate for the 3rd adult in our party. The family room that we booked had 1 queen bed, a bunk bed and a sofa. Nonetheless, the two rooms were still great value for the money and offered us more space and privacy - 3 is a crowd.

After the first night there I wanted to extend my stay for another night and she arranged everything in just a few seconds at a fair price. I was very happy she took care of my requests. She leads her team in a very pleasant and friendly way in order to maximize their effectiveness and watching that is fun. 1st night in the hotel room with a huge tv (didn’t use it though) 2nd night in the guesthouse

Verified reviewI did not stay at this property. I made a reservation there and on the day I was supposed to stay there, they had an accident and my Room was no longer available. They called me in Time so I could change my travel plans and they booked me and other Hotel that was a lot nicer with no extra cost for me. This showed me that they really take care of their Guests especially if something goes wrong. I will definitely use them in the Future.

Very basic accommodation. Not very comfortable. Tea/coffee facilities barely adequate. Room wasn't ready at check-in time of 3pm, which was already late enough.

Verified review+ the best thing about staying here were the very kind and helpful staff at the Hill hotel (the adjacent hotel where we check in, have breakfast and there is a restaurant). + varied and tasty breakfast. + free parking. + quiet even with window open.
- room was too hot: heating had been heated to 24 C before we arrived and despite being then set to 21 C only reduced to 23 C by the time we left, even having the bedroom window open. - bed linen was discoloured (dirty) and had someone’s hair in it.

The check-in process was not great - it takes place at the hotel across the road which is not the nicest/easiest thing to do when you park your car in the winter months at the guesthouse. After a lengthy check in process, our hot water didn’t work in our shower after we unpacked all our luggage and after a long day of hiking in the cold. Of course, when complaining via phone we then had to keep going back and forth to the hotel across the road to resolve this. The only reason I’m giving 3/10 is because the staff on-site and over the phone helped as much as they could. The tap for the wash basin was also broken, as well as the shower head.
