How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewOverall, it was a nice place for one night.
We knew to expect to share a bathroom but we were surprised how many people had to share. It was not clear that breakfast was available. Luckily, I asked. Other people were not so fortunate and only found out when they came downstairs.

Verified reviewLocation
Shared kitchen and washroom arrangements could be improved a bit. Can add one more washroom and kitchen facilities so they don’t get crowded.
It would be easier if guests took the opportunity to use the kitchen when no one is in it, but not everyone at the same time; sometimes you need to prioritize.

Verified reviewThis is guesthouse on what seems to be a farm not far from the small village of Fludir. It is a good location if you have a car and want to explore the waterfalls and hot springs in the area. I arrived early to check in and host was accommodating and she suggested a couple local areas I might want to check out. The main house where my room was is separated from the newer purpose built guest house next door which has the communal kitchen and another bathroom. I think I might have preferred the slightly updated facilities of the new guest house but both were fine and comfortable.
I know this is silly but I think worth mentioning, when I arrived early I decided to put a some warm beers into the communal fridge in the kitchen so I could drink 1 or 2 later on when I came back. The fridge at that time had nothing in it and there was no post-it note or other way to let others know this was not free for the taking.. but come on, of course it was not free for the taking... Anyhow, I came back after a couple hours of exploring the area to find that someone in the now occupied guest house had drank 3 of the 4 beers I put in there. I asked about it an no one would admitted to it. Yes, this is a small and annoying thing but in Iceland a good beer costs about 4-5 USD each and I had planned to have them for a couple more days of my trip. I talked to the host and she was shocked saying this had never happened before in 20 years of running the place. I asked her to provide post-it notes or something similar in the future (just like every other communal kitchen I stayed at does) so that a guest can mark what food is theirs and she seemed to think it is not necessary. Well it obviously is necessary and not much to ask! I hope she sees this review and provides some way to clearly mark the food you bring so it doesn't get taken. It is just a small thing but it made my stay kind of suck because of a disrespectful guest or whoever it was who decided what was mine is there's. Please fix this.
Thank you for staying here, Justin. It was fully booked that day and I only have one single room, so I couldn't upgrade you to anything else, and there was a small fridge in the hallway by you. Fortunately, I haven't noticed any theft before. I am sorry that you had to go through that. Best regard Rut

Verified reviewVery nice room, with enough space. All was clean. Quiet environment around. The kitchen was well equipped.
Not a complaint just maybe good to know, some rooms are up the stairs so it is necessary to walk down the stairs when using the bathroom.

Verified reviewBreakfast was good.
The room was really hot in the beginning. It took some time to figure out how to open the window and get some cool air in. Otherwise everything was as expected. Can recommend for anyone.

Verified reviewNice accomodation in very good location. The owners were nice and very flexible. We were only stayed for one night and that place perfectly suited our needs.
One small issue was the bathroom with toilet which was shared between about 10 people. Perhaps there should have been an additional toilet to serve everyone on time during the morning "rush period".
