Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Location. Convenient for our coming and going in and out of Reykjavík. Loved that our room had a small sink, table, window that opened, two chairs. The space was great. Comfortable room. Standard breakfast service.

AustraliaMy room was at the front of the guesthouse and got hit by full sun during the day so it was quite hot but not unbearable. I also found that the shared bathroom for the floor was often occupied which made the stay a little less comfortable.
The guesthouse is in an AMAZING location, a few minutes walk from the main street and church. So many cafes, restaurants and a supermarket nearby. Rooms were small but clean. Staff were friendly and the breakfast had something for everyone.

CanadaRoom for four was a bit small and as a result quite warm.
Fantastic buffet breakfast. Access to shared kitchen useful. Very clean. Shared bathroom not an issue as only shared with one or two other units. Good location close to downtown. Staff accommodating. Reasonable bag storage rate, helped with access to breakfast materials when we had to leave ahead of normal breakfast time, phone line to taxi company. All very good.

United StatesThe price sticker shock in Iceland is for real and paying quite a sum.for a shared bath room is annoying, but you do it once if you have to. The staff is busy for niceties or to simply be nice, but another thing you can easily get over. They do luggage storage for one day if needed.
Guesthouse Aurora is within walking distance of Bus Station #8 at the iconic church so the location is wonderful. You can easily walk to Downtown Reykjavik. Quiet neighborhood, outstanding baked goods at breakfast. The beds were very comfortable, the rooms were very clean.Wifi worked Well.

United StatesThe walls were very thin and it was exceptionally loud. We could hear doors slamming, cars, and people talking. 4 rooms shared one small bathroom (shower included) so I am thankful we were just there to sleep before our flight.
The location was nice and easy to walk from. Parking was easy to find for free nearby. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Staff was friendly and kind.

United StatesAfter drinking trap water elsewhere without challenge we did find the tap water from the shared kitchen too much on the geothermal taste. As several others mentioned in reviews the water from the breakfast area tap was just fine -- I don't know why there is a difference, but there definitely is. On warm days it was hard to cool the room down, even for sleeping. A fan would have been good.
Really lovely staff and perfect location. I received answers to any questions really quickly using the messaging system here. The room itself was very clean, though the bathroom could use a bit more of a scrub. Perhaps that's just the nature of shared bathrooms, though! PortugalThe stairs in the main house are a bit steep and narrow - with a large amount of luggage, it is a bit hard to get up the last floor. For us, it was not such a big issue, but for those with mobility issues (even a simple back pain) might be uncomfortable, so keep that in mind. Personally, the thing that was a minus for me was the sign signalling the emergency evacuation route. The room was quite small, and above the balcony door, we had a pretty big, electric light that made more light than what would be coming from the outside. I understand the need for signalling, it was just about the size of it. This, however, is not an issue if you use a sleeping mask.
The place has an excellent location, just around the corner from Hallgrímskirkja and practically 5 minutes from Rainbow Street. Check-in was fast, the room had a little balcony from where we could see the ocean. The room and the bathroom were both really clean. While the bathroom was shared, we had no issues with needing to wait long. The breakfast was good and diverse, a nice way to start the day. We found parking in front of the house. As we get there Friday afternoon, we only need to pay for one hour. It was a good stay and good value for money.
