How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe had an amazing experience. Martha greeted us and we instantly felt welcomed. From the amazing service of describing the area and making dinner reservations for us, to the wonderful rooms, to the delicious breakfast, we could not ask for any more. THANK YOU!

Verified reviewCute, historic building. Very cozy breakfastroom/lounge. Staff was friendly and helpful. Assisted in offering options for dinner and made dinner reservations. I opted out of the Hotel breakfast and staff provided other options in the area. Great location and parking.
The bathroom was not clean. Toilet had not been flushed from prior guest and there was debris on the bathroom floor.

Verified reviewNo doubt: the warmest possible welcome by Marta, the nicest hotel guest that I've met in many years and I have made hundreds of check-ins in those many years. Professional, kind and informative.
Staying a bit longer to finish a couple of pending conversations on Spanish music and Polish poetry.

Verified reviewWonderful location, cozy room. The bar/breakfast area was welcoming. Chris, on staff when we checked in, was super helpful. He had a great recommendation for the fish and chips food truck just down the road. It was fabulous!
Be prepared for a small room. Room 2 is just off the breakfast/reception/bar so can get loud. This was only an issue when a very loud (albeit happy- she kept laughing, loudly) guest checked out at 7:15am.

Verified reviewThe shower was fantastic. The town was lovely although pretty far away from the sights. The hotel staff were great and very helpful.
Breakfast was not included, which made the cost even more expensive. The bed was not comfortable. This place is more a bed & breakfast (without breakfast) than a hotel. It was nice in many ways but fell short in others.

Verified reviewPerfect location - very friendly and helpful staff. Free coffee and tea available at the reception area. Nice breakfast for which you had to pay extra.
Very small room - I requested a twin room but was given a double instead. Hardly any space for your luggage. My son and I are both 6.4ft tall so we both struggled.

Verified reviewHótel Egilsen was the smallest hotel I stayed at in Iceland, but it was by far the most enchanting! With only 10 rooms, booking a stay here feels like finding a hidden treasure. From the moment you step into the lobby, greeted warmly by Chris, you're transported to another time—it's like stepping into a time capsule. The soft oldies music playing in the background added to the charm, and the little library was a delightful touch (I even found myself reading Arabian Nights). My room, though small, was a perfect blend of quaint and modern, cozy and comfortable. The shower pressure was divine! The next morning, the ladies at the hotel had a delicious breakfast spread waiting for me. This is the kind of hotel you wish you could return to time and time again. I’m already looking forward to my next trip to Stykkishólmur and staying here while exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

Verified reviewThe location of the hotel was great. Well designed and a fantastic shower
Room 1 was an awful location and was not even remotely soundproofed. You could hear everything from the floor above and everything from the foyer/entrance area.

Verified reviewA quaint hotel in an old home. The woman at the desk made us feel welcome. She was extremely helpful and was able to answer our questions about the area. The breakfast was served to each table and not a buffet. It was yummy. Very comfortable hotel in a great location for the ferry to the Westfjords.
We needed to reserve a time for breakfast. The room was on the second floor. No elevator. They will help with luggage if you ask. The hotel needs a better sign! We had trouble figuring out where it was!

Verified reviewVery nice location.
We booked 1 double room and a single room. Both were in the attic - two flights of stairs to be navigated with no elevator. One person in the double room could not sit up in bed because the head would hit the sloping ceiling. Virtually impossible to go to the washroom at night without climbing over the other person in bed. This was just NOT suitable as a double room.
