Some guests clearly have never used a door properly in their lives. Instead of bashing the doors shut, guests could pay more attention when closing doors.

I'm repeating myself from my first visit to Gimli 4 years ago but the hostel is one of the best hostels I have visited. It is quiet, the location is great and it is just ever so peaceful.

No negative feedback, but you have to be aware that there is no staff available in the house. The owner comes as soon as you call him and replied very quickly to all messages and questions through Booking. Dalvik is rather isolated, if you don't have a car. I couldn't find food after 5 pm (too bad I was just too late for the super cosy looking cafe of the hostel owner at 100 m from the hostel). No shops or restaurants open when I was there in July on Sunday and Monday night.. Luckily a pizza takeaway opened from a local house kitchen at 6 pm.

Simple room but everything you need, clean shared bathroom and spacious kitchen/,living room where you can cook your own meal. Original house decorations. Very convenient location for people taking the ferry to Grimsey, just across the street. There's no real center in Dalvik, but it's located along the main road nearby the little harbor. Road to Dalvik along a beautiful fjord (but the town itself is more a collection of houses along the road). Bus stop at a couple of 100 meters. Warm welcome by the owner.

Possibly the nicest hostel I have ever stayed in. Advertised as a hostel but had the feel of a traditional guest house. Bjarni is a very welcoming and approachable host. Directly across the road from the Grimsey ferry.

Firstly Bjarni was a fantastic host. Very helpful and enthusiastic. He very kindly gave me a slightly bigger room. I stayed 2 separate nights and was able to leave a bag whilst I was Grimsey. The hostel was spotless. Kitchen also really well equipped. I am already planning my return trip for some whale watching.

All good ;) but the town is missing a café that opens early for breakfast guests.

Very friendly and helpful host, good value for money. Quiet at night, enough shared bathroom facilities, clean. Nice atmosphere in this old house, felt a bit like a museum!

A bit awful fish smells outside when we arrived , it was rainy but ofcourse its not owners fault. But good to know if you are travelling with someone who has fish allergies :) same as my son. He is so sensitive from fish. Even smell

Friendly , good stop over, spacious beds with pair price for family

The host is very sweet and welcoming. The house is in a great location, just a five-minute walk to the whale watching center. The decor has a charming, vintage feel, and the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. We loved the café on the corner, where the fresh fish soup and bread were some of the best we've ever had. Next door is a century-old cinema with a vintage projector. Everything was wonderful. Highly recommend!

We loved our 2 nights here! Bjarni is a fantastic host, and we really enjoyed the fish soup and homemade beer bread (and dessert) at his cafe down the street. The shared areas were kept very clean, and the shower had great water pressure. The kitchen area was well-equipped, spacious, and had several tables and places to sit. The hostel has lots of antique furnishings that added to the warmth of the place. Our room was spacious and had a desk and a large, beautiful hutch of sorts. The beds were very comfortable. Dalvik is a small town, so you don't have to walk very far to get to the cafe, library, (where my dad bought a used book), grocery store, etc. The swimming pool was wonderful, too! We spent one day taking the ferry to and from Grimsey, and we only had to walk across the street and down the stairs by the restaurant to get to the ferry. Thank you for a great stay and all of your help and communication prior to our arrival! I would love to return!

    Leaving!

Bjarni was an excellent host. He went out of his way to help and made us feel very welcome and this definitely added an extra element to our trip. We were in Dalvik to ski tour and the hostel was perfectly situated for that purpose. It was within walking distance from the supermarket and the excellent Cafe Gisli. The other people in the hostel were also great and we got to know them all quite well during the week. Dalvik is just beautiful and getting up in the morning and going into the kitchen and being greeted with an incredible view across the Fjord was something else! We will definitely be back.

Not to complain, as there are full time residents, the bigger communal kitchen doesn’t fit, as residents are cooking full on meals, using multiple cooking and prep surfaces, so you really left confused as can I use this pan? The coffee? The plates?

When you step in it is like back 50years, with decor, actual beds, bed setups, kitchen, you name it, even the keys. Although not a retro fan, this is not retro. I stayed here as I needed a place to sleep before catching the ferry to Grimsey Island. I got a room upgrade I think, lol. Was contacted hours before expected arrival, just to clear arrival procedures. I would recommend to other travellers, it’s clean, good water pressure, Ease of access, no pets, and no issues.
