How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location is not too far from the city centre but I wouldn’t recommend it
The atmosphere was like a sex hotel/motel the room bed thrown was dirty and so the pillows I found quite a lot long hairs around the room, there’s a kitchen facility in the hotel that is is pretty dirty and no words for the fridge. There’s no reception you collect the keys from a safe. Only saw one person doing refills for breakfast and collecting dirty dishes.

Verified reviewThe stay was quite average. not the best, but not the worst either. The room was basically clean, the breakfast was decent, and the neighborhood was pleasantly quiet.
The service felt a bit unusual. Sheets and towels were not replaced unless specifically requested, and even then, it took quite a while for the staff to attend to it. During my five-day stay, they were changed only once.

Verified reviewBreakfast was very good, meaning that we only needed a filled baguette for lunch. The guest kitchen was well equipped and had tables to sit at (as did our room if we wanted to). The nearby Bonus supermarket (4 minute stroll) provided us with baguettes and good quality ready meals (some of them traditional Icelandic). This combination was a great money saver for us (restaurants are very expensive in Reykjavic, and you have to walk to them after a full on day). You could easily cook a full meal if you had the energy after a full day out. The hotel was very quiet, as was the pleasant surrounding neighbourhood. The lack of a reception was not a difficulty, we were sent our access codes well in time and the system worked. There is a 24h "virtual concierge" service via WhatsApp (which we didn't need), and responses were prompt via the Booking.com app. There are lots of books to borrow in English as well as Icelandic. Only half an hour's walk from the city centre, and just under 15 minutes walk from the nearest tour bus stop (number 12) for excursion pick ups.
It was all fine.

Verified reviewIt was in a good location with free public parking on the Main Street - often available but not guaranteed - it was a 10 minute walk to the main town area.
The property is made to look very good on the website but when you get there it is aged, dark, cheaply furnished, and in desperate need of some TLC. The room we were staying in had a very strong bad musty smell that just dissipated through everything. This hotel is heavily overpriced for what you get. Yes, Iceland is expensive but this hotel is bordering on being a cheap backpacker hostel. On arrival into our room we were hit by a very strong odor of musty damp smell that was likely due to very bad air circulation and damp shower drapes in the bathroom. Because there are no customer service staff at the hotel and it is all virtual we asked them via their WhatsApp number to help and they said they couldn’t - they had no other rooms available. They did. It even try to fix the problem and then ignored the messages thereafter.

Verified reviewThe beds where very good and the place was price worthy for it's location.
The breakfast area was to small we often had to wait for a spot to open up. The rooms were small and there was no place to hang stuff. The shower water pressure was non-existent when you had a bit hotter water. Parking was a bit tricky since when we came back from a days adventure the street was full luckily there is a big parking lot nearby where we parked most of the time.

Verified reviewTrust the other negative reviews: go somewhere else. Other than the non-existent check in process (I had to call them on the spot for the check-in info, despite them claiming they'd already sent it), my main problem was with the curtains. As you might know: Iceland tends to have long days in summer. That's why you need good curtains. Brim hotel didn't offer that, but it did offer curtains that were considerably too short, therefore teaching me that in the Icelandic summer the sun rises just around 4:30.

Verified reviewEasy Check-in, Check-out. Early Check-in was possible without cost.
Very cold service person, always wearing in-ear headphones, getting almost angry with guests that ask questions, late with breakfast preparation and behind on refilling. Bathroom not in a good shape, wifi signal too weak to use in more distant room.

Hotel is dingy. First floor rooms are terrible and small. Wifi only works in the lobby areas despite what appear to be hot spots in halls. .
