Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Friendly welcome, comfortable rooms with a good en-suite. Spacious lounge and very well equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook a meal (including sharp knives which isn’t always the case). Decent breakfast (bread, cheese, eggs, coffee, cereal and skyr). Property has good soundproofing which is appreciated for anyone wanting to sleep in. The lady who checked us in/welcomed us was very helpful with tips on what to see and do.

GreeceThe house was excellent. It is located in a private area in a lava field and is surrounded by low trees. It has a large common living room with an open kitchen. The living room had large glass openings and we could see the trees. It also has a very large balcony with a table and chairs to enjoy nature. The entire house is surrounded by a he living room had large glass openings single balcony with tables and chairs per room. The kitchen was fully equipped and had everything we needed to make a full breakfast (eggs, oil, butter, jams, milk, etc.) The room was clean and comfortable. The host was cheerful and gave us information about the area. Lake Myvatn, the baths and the other attractions are very beautiful and worth the stay. Unfortunately when we went the Grjotagia cave was closed, but we were compensated by the other attractions.

Singaporenothing, really! it was such an amazing place and i would very much love to return, if i ever visit iceland again.
11/10! host joanna was really excellent, she made sure that we were settled in and showed great hospitality! she had great recommendations on where to go, and also topped up the breakfast goodies for us when it was running low. the guesthouse also was really amazing - just 4 rooms and a huge living area and a very well stocked kitchen. all the kitchenware and appliances were high quality and super easy to use, and we really cooked up a feast every night because it really had everything you need! (including soy sauce for us Asians!) of the 3 nights we stayed here, we had a whole day of snow and so we just stayed in and watched tv (we really needed the downtime), and saw aurora right from the balcony one of those nights. the rooms a bit small but overall still comfortable and nice, and considering we largely hung out at the common area this really wasn't any issue. birkilauf was HANDS DOWN our #1 accoms in iceland and i will be recommending all my friends to stay here!

SpainYou don’t know when other guests will be checking in, for example, in our case at 23:00. We were already in bed and heard the noise, which was a little bit weird as you don’t expect it so late.
Nice place, with a nice breakfast and a kitchen that has everything you need. You can also use the washing machine without extra charge. Beds are big and comfortabel, and it has a rain shower! We slept really good and the location is perfect nearby all the sightseeing activities. Someone comes every morning to check if everything is OK, wat was really sweet.

SingaporeNothing, house was fabulous.
There are 4 spacious bedrooms each with its own attached bathroom in a nicely decorated house with shared living room, dining area, well-equipped kitchen and clothes washer cum dryer. Host provides items like juices, yoghurt, butter, jams, cheese, bread, eggs that we use to prepare our own breakfast. Kitchen has necessary cooking utensils, cooking oil, spices & condiments. Patio area has lovely sunset views. Friendly housekeeper met us at checkin & gave detailed explanation of how to operate kitchen appliances. She also recommended nice farmhouse restaurant nearby for meals.

The host went above and beyond to help guests in the local area! Our car was stuck in a snow drift about 400 m away from the house, and he drove out at 9pm to rescue us and pull us out of the snow. The accommodations themselves were also fantastic. The kitchen was very well-stocked (with basic breakfast ingredients as well as cooking pots/pans), and we made good use of the washer/dryer!

CanadaOnly minor quibbles. Tricky getting to the property in the snow. Didn’t want to go through a driveway marked Private. The GPS location is accurate. The road was plowed when we left in the morning. Strangely there was no microwave in the kitchen when IIRC it was on the listing. We came prepared for a quick microwaveable dinner and had to cook it on the stove.
New building. Spacious common area and large sparkling modern kitchen. Including washer/ drier so you can do laundry while preparing a meal. Ready for a large group. Large bedroom and bathroom with shower. The bedroom opens to a deck. There may be a view. All we saw was snow and fog/ cloud. Iceland was having a late winter to mid-April.

NetherlandsThe drive over through the mountains (if you decide not to take the toll road via Akureyri) is already a treat before you arrive at a unique location in a natural park located in the northern part of Iceland. Our bedroom had an en suite bathroom, and was clean. Waking up to see a fresh (thin) layer of snow covered the outside area was a big bonus. The common space has enough room to not bump into the occupants of the other rooms, and the kitchen is well stocked.

If I could give more than 10, I would happily do it. It was a fantastic apartment. I was a bit hesitant about shared kitchen initially. But it was absolutely fine. It was huge and exceptionally clean, had loads of utensils and cooking equipment. A full size dishwasher. So they have set up the kitchen in a way that multiple people can cook same time. They also come every morning to clean and reset the kitchen. They also give free supplies like breads, tomato, butter, oils etc. Washing machine came in very handy as this was day 7 of our Iceland trip when we stayed in Birkilauf. Rooms are very nice, neat and clean. Bathroom also looks newly done up Location is very close to all main areas like Hverir geothermal, Hverfjall Volcano and Dimmuborgir and lake Myvatn. Overall everything was great. Highly recommend.
