Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaA clean, beautiful hostel with a simply unbeatable location in the Old City. The owners Asim and Nur are the most incredibly kind and hospitable people you will ever come across. I have stayed in hundreds of different places in nearly 60 different countries, and I have never felt more at home anywhere. They helped me with things without me even asking, and always went out of their way to make me feel like they were my own family. A stunning hostel in one of the world's greatest cities, I would never stay anywhere else in Jerusalem.

United StatesIt was a little loud from the street and not properly sealed much less insulated, so it was difficult to keep the ac at a reasonable temp without blasting it. You also access the rooms through an outdoor staircase. It was a little run down and cramped, but no more than you would expect in the old city.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and you can't beat the location. Overall it was a lovely stay especially for the price.

United StatesThis is a typical bare bones hostel and perfect for the solo traveler. The owner explained ways to save money on tours and the transportation systems. He really cares about his guest. A perfect hostel to stay in the Old City especially if you are trying to save money.

United KingdomThe sheet on the bed didnt fit - was too small but a minor detail
The location is perfect to explore the Old City and there is a wonderful rooftop terrace to sit at plus ample seating to dine outside. I was very pleased that the property also had a fridge, kettle and microwave which meant i could store food and have early morning drinks! The staff are super friendly and helpful and they are attentive to individual needs. There are also 2 living rooms so there is lots of space to sit, work, eat from. Overall i really enjoyed my stay and when i am back i'd love to stay there again!

GermanyAfter many travels that I experienced, this was quite an outstanding stay. First, you’re in the heart of Jerusalem’s historic Old City, close to everything but in a quiet little private alley. The rooftop is above most of the others around, so it’s worth for the phantastic view already, I spent hours up there. The rooms are comfy and individual, you’re surrounded by 600 years old stone, which might be chilly during the cold season (but there are enough blankets and AC), but I imagine it’s the best place to be during hot summers. And then there are the owners. It’s a family that has been running this place for 50 years, now two brothers who are quite caring and make you feel instantly at home. They provide an endless number of tips and advice and are always open for interesting discussions. Alcohol is strictly forbidden, but other than that everything is very open. There were Jews, Muslims, Christians and everything else, and everybody was very welcome. Like a melting pot of friendly human beings - the way it should be everywhere, but unfortunately, it’s not these times. In short, I’d love to come back anytime and can warmly recommend this place. Thank you for everything!

United KingdomThis was my second time staying at Jaffa Gate Hostel, and after my first visit I couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else in Jerusalem. The location is beautiful with views of the dome of the rock and the church of the holy sepulchre, the rooms are large and comfortable with amazing facilities, and the guys who run the hostel go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home during your stay. My partner and I had a fantastic time during our visit, and I hope to be back soon!

United StatesIt was a bit difficult to find the location at first, the house is an old stone building thus it has somewhat of old smell to it, I'd have liked to have a bit more shampoo packets.
Amazing to stay inside the old Jerusalem city wall, in a small private historical stone house, right near Jaffa Gate. Near to visit any place you need. Host is kind, generous, informative, & very caring to share all the economical ways to enjoy the stay in Jerusalem sight seeing, shopping, or eating.

The Jaffa Gate Hostel is a magical place. You are truly immersed in Jerusalem at this hostel. The location is perfect. Make sure you check out their rooftop view 🤩. The family who runs the hostel are truly amazing people. This is a special place, filled with good energy. Whether you travel solo, or as a couple, or a group, this property has a variety of rooms. I was a solo traveler this time but I will return with family and friends and stay at Jafa Gate Hostel again!!

PolandThe rooftop has a great potential but it would benefit from some maintanance work.
Excellent location! Great value for the money. It’s very clean. Really hot shower, which is not so common in old city. The staff are superb. They display genuine hospitality and happily give advice on what to see in the city as well as where to eat without spending a fortune. The real gem of this place is the people who run it. It’s a home away from home.
