How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe really enjoyed our stay at the Stables. It was a really nice, welcoming, spacious, quiet house. One could see the love that gone into building and decorating the house. Upon arrival there were several very nice and welcoming gifts like a fresh bread, milk, orange juice and so on, we did not need to go and do any shopping straight away, it was all already there. The house has all the right facilities. The surrounding area has several very interesting visiting points. The hosts were very nice and helpfull and had some very good tips about what to see and visit. When we left we started missing the house straight away.

Verified reviewIts location is perfect to navigate around the area without being in a village. Great way to have the peace of the countryside yet the conveniences. You have the perfect privacy yet the “helping hand” right there if you need it. Wonderful hosts and such a treat to meet the family that graciously hosts travelers.
I didn’t get to stay longer is the only part I didn’t like. Could have easily moved in as I was right at home from the time I walked in. Very well set up and convenient. I’ll definitely be back!

Verified reviewThis cosy, modern house was all we could have wished for. Christine and Ken, owners/hosts, very helpful and friendly. A really nice touch was necessary items of food and drink provided for our arrival, Everything in and about the house was tasteful, in perfect condition and clean, a hand-written welcome note a very nice, friendly gesture. A lovely surprise, finally, was Christine bringing us warm. home-made scones, butter and bramble jam just before we departed. A great little 'leaving present'. Although a little off the beaten track, (this is, after all, rural West Cork!) I really would recommend this property - an absolute joy, both the house and the owners.
Nothing not to like, except no microwave for quick dishes (also, I'm always leaving my coffee to get cold!) One major "Didn't like" was caused by Booking.com who sent us initially to the wrong nearby property (totally different description/photos on-line!!!!!). Thankfully, helpful locals directed us to The Stables at the correct location. All's well that ends well!
Thanks so much for your kind words Rod. It was lovely to meet you both and hopefully we will see you again!

Verified reviewComfortabele cottage in cosy style, big enough for us as a couple but could also fit a family with children. Very warm welcoming host, with lots of tips for the region, including tip for the local bar with live music on Thursday night! Skibbereen is just a short car trip away for restaurants or groceries. Good bed and shower, even has washing machine. Very quit surrounding.
Nothing, would recommend it!
Carla, thank you for your lovely review, we really appreciate it. The best part of hosting is getting to meet genuinely lovely people like you and Bob who immerse themselves into the local way and therefore experience the best of the area. We would be delighted to see you return again in the future. Continued safe travels, Christine

Verified reviewChristine and her lovely family were the best hosts we could imagine. We will definitely come back the next time we come to Ireland. The cottage was very convenient and cosy. The area is absolutely beautiful and offers many opportunities for hiking, running and water sports nearby. We loved Heir Island, Cape Clear and Lough Hyne. We wish we could have stayed longer.
We loved having you and your wonderful family Michaela and look forward to meeting again either here or in Germany!!

Verified reviewWe arrived fairly late in the evening, around 9:15pm or so, and our hosts popped over within a couple of minutes to welcome us. Very warm and friendly folk. They already had a fire going in the fireplace, and the cottage was all ready for us. The inside was very well furnished and comfortable, with a bedroom downstairs, a living room, dinette, kitchen with all the amenities and a bathroom with a washer dryer combo. My son stayed in the really cool attic bedroom. Plenty of attractions, restaurants and other fun things to do were printed in their guide book. This cottage would be a delight for a couple wanting to get away, or for a small family. I would definitely stay there again.
Nothing.
Thank you Bruce for your lovely review, we really appreciate it and hope to meet you again on your next trip to West Cork!

Verified reviewWe had a lovely stay at The Stables. Great location for exploring this beautiful part or the world and the hosts showed us the Irish hospitality we were so looking forward to experiencing here. Sipping a lovely Irish whiskey in front of the lit stove in the evening was the our highlight! The cottage is well equipped, warm and inviting. We only wish he could have stayed longer!

Verified reviewWhat a wonderfully pleasant home to stay in for our 5 days of Irish adventure! It had all the facilities and equipment we could have expected from our own home and more. We were welcomed with so much care and warmth, from the expert guidance of where to go and what to visit for the best that West Cork had to offer, to Christine, Kenneth, and their wonderful children’s natural hospitality and generosity. Truly inspiring! The location is in the country, but accessible to all sites and cities from Cork up north to Ring of Kerry to the west, and every lovely highlight in between. We have travelled extensively, and seek the authentic experience of the people in that place and culture, this has to be the best experience we have had in years. Thank you Christine, Kenneth, and little ’uns for making this a most memorable lifetime experience. We will certainly see you again!
The rate per night was the most we paid during our stay in Ireland, however we would pay more to have met and got to know the family, they are worth their weight in Gold!
