How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe villas were comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. It was lovely to be away from the traffic noises of central Ubud. Most importantly for us, it was very close to Locavore NXT, the restaurant we had booked, and close to rice paddies. Swimming pool is lovely.

Verified reviewThe staff was nice and tried their best to fix the problems. We had a really nice driver living next door - it wad perfect! The beds were nice and comfy.
Especially one of the bathrooms where infected with fleas. When someone walked into the bathroom within seconds your feet was covered with fleas. We all had loads of flea bites. When made aware the staff tried to clean the villa, but where not successful with doing so. We would not recommend anybody going there.

To prevent this from happening again, we’ve added an extra layer of mosquito netting to the bathroom windows as a precautionary measure. Verified reviewQuiet location. Breakfast was convenient. Pool was nice. Friendly neighbourhood dogs. Nice leafy setting and very spacious. Staff were friendly and willing to help. 10 minutes on a scooter to restaurants. Overall pretty good but just a few minor let downs.
Not very clean. Vinyl covers on bed were a bit weird. Entry and signage was difficult to figure out and needs more lighting. Was a bit dated. We had no ac for a couple of days until they (helpfully) sorted it out. Second bathroom flooded in heavy rain.

However, we acknowledge that some areas may have been overlooked, such as faded paint. We are committed to repainting areas in need and enhancing our pre-check-in inspections to ensure a spotless environment for our guests. - Difficulty navigating the entry and insufficient signage lighting. To make it easier for guests to find the villa, we have improved lighting at the entrance, especially for better visibility at night. - Air conditioning not functioning properly for a couple of days. We promptly addressed the issue with the air conditioning as soon as we became aware of it, ensuring it was fixed quickly during your stay. - The second bathroom flooding during heavy rain. We’ve taken steps to improve the drainage and prevent water from entering the room. The heavy rain this month was a factor, but we’re monitoring the situation closely. - "A bit dated" appearance of the villa. We understand that the recycled wood used for our furniture may give the villa an older look. However, we chose this material to be more eco-friendly and reduce our environmental impact, while giving the space a unique and rustic feel. - Vinyl covers on the bed were a bit weird. We apologize if the vinyl covers didn’t meet your expectations. Most of the beds are made with nylon material, and the vinyl covers have been in use since last year without issues. However, we’ve already ordered alternative materials to provide more options for our guests. Your feedback plays a significant role in helping us improve, and we are dedicated to making Ambary Ubud a better place to stay. Verified reviewThe thing we liked most about this place besides the warm and cozy pool in the middle of the villa was the staff who were very kind, helpful, and accessible all the time. We had an early flight to catch so they offered us breakfast earlier than usual hours. Another advantage of this villa is the location, if you want to get away from the traffic and all the tourists with a little rental bike this place sits in the most advantageous location. Just on the edge of Ubud area.
If you are an unlucky couple you might be sharing the villas with families with small kids and due to the cosy design it would be hard to escape the noise. The dogs in the neighborhood might be a little excited when you walk past, I recommend not petting them or chances are they get a little aggressive.

Verified reviewOutstanding staff, tasty breakfasts, lots of room in the villas, massive bathroom with bathtub and shower, and a dedicated doors to the pool. Dedicated isolated working space with a table for eating and preparing food, you could easily live here couple of months. Amount of green area, privacy thanks to big plants around the villa (and the view thanks to massive windows). And 2 pools that were blessing for late evening swim, or hanging out. 11/10, would recommend highly. This is one of the best places I’ve stayed in the world.
Some could say - insects around… but this is Asia, partially opened bathroom, lots of plants and trees around - there will be insects ;)

Ask for the right address and ask for the host to send you a car because it is very confusing to get to and grabs dont really show the right address

Verified reviewWe loved the quiet area where the beautifully arranged buildings were located. The spacious private atmosphere was relaxing and gave us the feeling of home. We felt taken care of anytime and were happy with all the support.
