How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewA very budget-conscious stay for three nights. The beds were comfortable, small TV and fridge. AC wasn’t used as the weather was mild. To find this accommodation was a bit of a nightmare. Very confusing with no instructions. The atmosphere is intimidating if you first arrive late at night, but we found everyone in the area to be friendly in the end. First you enter the building via Chunking Mansions on Nathan Road. You proceed through the ground floor markets to the second elevator - Block B. Take the elevator marked with odd numbered levels to the 11th Floor. We messaged the host on the Booking.com app to come outside the rooms and collect us. Took us an hour to work this process out. The bathroom is tiny with the shower and toilet sharing the same small room - this was the only thing that would have me look elsewhere in future.

Verified reviewCentral location. Affordable room for Hong Kong but some negative points.
We booked for 2 nights: Friday and Saturday. On Saturday, they moved our stuff to another room. The manager sent me an email on Saturday around 12:00 to inform me (information not communicated at check-in). I was not in the hotel at this moment and I had no internet data in Hong Kong (before check-in, I had advised that I had no data). On Saturday night, we came back to the room, opened the door, found our things gone and other people sleeping in. It was a shock! I called the manager and even if he sent quickly somebody to lead us to the new room, I think it was a big failure of communication and inappropriate behavior. The room of the 1st night was not 12 m2 as indicated for the booking: seemed closer to 6m2. Very poorly maintained. The 2d room they changed us too was better maintained. But almost as small as the 1st one. Only one small elevator to arrive to the 12d floor where the hotel is. Lot of people using it, very often a long queue to go up.

Verified reviewThe guy who runs the accommodation was friendly enough, and while the building itself is a disaster, the location, Tsim Sha Tsui, is great. Despite how small the room was, it was surprisingly well appointed, with a mini fridge, AC, TV, and even a microwave and water dispenser outside. It's pretty clean, all things considered.
For starters, the building, the so-called "Chungking Mansions", is a total slum. Filled with South Asian and African shops, guesthouses, and all manner of hawkers, it's a warren of corridors and elevators that does anything but make the average traveller feel safe or comfortable. Don't look down the window shafts if you don't want to throw up 🤢 The guesthouse itself is grossly overpriced for the tiny room you get. I paid about $50 (Canadian) per night on the weekend, and this goes up to $200/night during the week, which is just absolute robbery. As I mentioned, the room is tiny, and the shower and toilet share one small space; there are no windows. There is noise and people talking loud in the hallway at all hours. Be sure to check that the fridge is on, because otherwise you'll be putting your food in...a box 🤷🏻♂️

The beds omg I reminded me oh high school.. They are not comfortable at all. And the rooms are so small. Upgraded to another room but still the same type of beds and still small 😢😢

Verified reviewRoom was clean and comfortable and had very effective air conditioning with convenient supplies and drinking water, great for a hot, humid night in HK. Staff was immediately available via internet app and got me checked in quickly despite a late night arrival on short notice booking due to my original hotel canceling my reservation and I had to scramble for a replacement place to stay.
No criticism of the hotel, but I didn't realize when I booked that I would need to check in via Wechat, WhatsApp, or phone call since there was no physical check in desk, which appears to be common these days in HK but was new to me. Since I didn't have operating phone service, I needed to find free wifi to connect to staff to check in. Luckily staff was helpful and responsive once I did connect.

Verified reviewThat is next to the MRT Tsim Sha Tsai and it always has the crowd around the building. Most of foreigners like to stay there for the short time with sightseeing. You could have a good night view at Victoria Harbour.
