How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewApparently no one was working during my attempt to check in. Therefore I was waiting 50 minutes in a sweltering unfair conditioned foyer with no answer to either my phone calls nor my ringing the doorbell. There was not even a note or sign attached to the door explaining the absence of personnel. I did get a contact attempt 2 hours after I arrived by which time I had already checked into another place.

Verified reviewI think the best part of the property is its value. It's difficult to get a better price to value ratio in HK. It's centrally located and very clean. Don't plan spending much time in the room because it's tiny but that's exactly what I was expecting.
A bit hard to find the correct elevator in the Mansion - main downside. There's a lot of scary stuff on the internet about this building but I'd say most of it (nowadays not in the past) is racism or scaremongering for the sake of views. Just know that it's not an expensive hotel. This place is a cheap room in a very central location. The Mansion itself looks safe to me.

Verified reviewThe only thing good about this hotel was girl at the reception. First day I got some other room than I booked. Bus A21 from airport stops in front of the hotel. Next to everything. True Hong Kong vibe.
Strong smell of Indian food in the room. Non stop. The AC is very loud. Room is so small that you cant even change your stuff. I had to put my bag to the bed and sleep like that. Long queue for elevator. Very tiny bathroom. You barely fit in. You get what you pay for.

Verified reviewAnother great comfortable stay at Mandarin Guesthouse! Inside the exciting multicultural Chungking Mansions (Block E, far end of right side if you've booked it and wondering where to go when you get there!). Yes, it can be a bit daunting when you arrive to a sea of people, lots of touts, but all of your services and food outlets inside.. and that adds to the character of the place. It's not for everyone ..but I like it. The House of Curry (front right side) does great food, has friendly staff and is very affordable! The laundry lady around Block B does fast service for a reasonable price, and didn't lose my socks! Yeah, she's not the only laundry lady in there. :D Mandarin Guesthouse receptionist, Sulis, is lovely, and helpful. The rooms are small ..as per the photos - hence the great price. If you want amazing value in the heart of the Tsim Sha Tsui action, this is your place. Bonus points for TV with YouTube, NetFlix etc. and a small window that opens. Don't expect a view. Beds are standard Asian budget style - firm. Fine for me, but not for everyone. There's water from the dispenser in the lobby. Quite reasonable security. I'll stay here again. *Not suitable for anyone who requires the use of a wheelchair. Steps at front entrance, small, narrow rooms with tiny step-into bathrooms.
Not much to not like. Did I mention the cramped rooms and firm beds? I'm ok with them. Others may find them uncomfortable.

Verified reviewThe location is near the bus stop and mtr. Also near to some tourist attractions.
The place has a strong smell from the ground floor because of the cooked food from the eatery.

Verified reviewValue, location, friendly reception staff, water dispenser in foyer, abundance of services & food options in location, easy access to MTR via multiple nearby exits. I requested a room I stayed in previously and received it. I also requested the use of a proper towel, and that request was also met.
My room would be enhanced by adding some hooks for hanging clothes, toiletries bag etc. A small refrigerator in the room would be nice to add to the wish-list, but that would add to the cost and difficult in such a small room. The compact room and tiny bathroom cubicle didn't bother me - it helps to make for a budget-friendly stay in pricey HK. I'm also not bothered by the lively happenings of Chungking Mansions ground floor but some guests might find it intimidating at first. I find it adds to the experience.

Verified reviewI had a great stay at this hotel! The room, while compact, had everything I needed—comfortable bed, clean bathroom, and all the essential amenities. Check-in and check-out were smooth and hassle-free. The location is fantastic—close to everything, from shops and restaurants to public transport. Definitely a convenient and comfortable option for a short stay.
Everything good

Verified reviewThe location is in the heart of Hong Kong, making it easy to get around the city. There's a bus stop right in front of the building, and the area isn't too crowded. A variety of Indian, Pakistani, and Filipino food is available on the ground floor. It's a great place for solo travelers and offers good value for money. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend staying here.
washroom is too small.

Verified reviewA nice clean easy stay for the layover. Just needed a room for the night and got the room with the private bathroom. Location was great, a little hard to find but the front desk was very responsive over what’s app. In a popular shopping area. The room was super clean and it wasn’t noisy at all. I felt very comfortable! And was great for the price.

Verified reviewClose to everything. Museum, port Elizabeth, metro across the street. Room very inexpensive. Staff isn’t always there but when woman was there she was very nice and helpful.
Really small. Be tired when you get back to room because you can only lie down. Thought the bathroom above mine was leaking into my bathroom. Scared me.
