How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewClean room and good location Very accommodating Room was small but we made it work
The building is incredibly ugly
Thank you very much! Yes, this building is very old and not very beautiful, but its advantage is that it is in the city center and has very convenient transportation.

Verified reviewGood location and good access to everything I need.
Your wifi not working. It is just fortunate that I live here in Hong Kong and I was able to provide my family with internet.
Thank you very much. WiFi not working? I'm so sorry. If this problem happens again in the future, please let me know immediately and I will fix it.

Verified reviewGood for Budget Travelers – Highly Recommended if You're Not Choosy. We were a group of six (Family) and stayed at Johnson Hostel for 5 nights. The room was basic but clean and had everything we needed. The location is super convenient—close to transport, shops, and places to eat. It’s not fancy, but it’s comfortable and affordable. Highly recommended for those who are not choosy and just need a good place to rest after exploring the city.
Thank you very much, thank you for your praise and recommendation, welcome to come again!

Verified reviewIt's in a decent location.
Sketchy building, very rough hallways with laundry hanging and dirty stairwells, tiny room, a man tried to get into our room at one point, not sure if this is just Hong Kong way, but for five times what it might be for a room like in Bangkok, it's hard to justify what we spent.
Thanks!

Verified reviewIt is in a great location and close to the metro system…literally a block away. The room is clean. The mattress is on the firm side which I like. I had a great sleep. At night it was quiet (no neighbors being noisy or street loud noise). In the morning and afternoon if you want to nap you can close the window and put AC as white noise since there is construction going on 1-2 blocks away. The room may be small for people that are used to standard rooms in the USA, but if you want to find something affordable then this is the place. If you don’t have towels in the room just ask the front desk. Hair drier for example is a shared item so it is found outside the room, you just have to return it after use. To turn on the AC you have to switch it on (the switch is just outside next to the room door), if you want hot water for shower you have to switch on the heater (switch next to the bathroom door and allow 10-15 min to heat). The right elevator goes to the 11th floor. The elevator on the right goes to odd number floors. Great stay, I would stay there again!!
Thank you for your good review and detailed introduction. Thank you very much. Looking forward to your visit again!

Verified reviewThe host was lovely and very friendly and helpful! The room was spotlessly clean and the TV had some great English language channels. Also a great location with a small 7 11 opposite and a great dim sum restaurant 2 minutes away plus Mongkok MTR station also 2 minutes away and 3 minutes from the Airport A21 Argyle Centre bus stop.
The room was small for the price paid but as long as you don’t have too much luggage it was fine.
Thank you very much for your detailed introduction and we look forward to seeing you again. Thanks 🙏

Verified reviewFor the low price, it's slightly better than other choices in the area. Friendly receptionist lady who's very helpful. Wifi is good. Water provided.
It's just a bed after all. Elevators don't have an up button and they often close elevators so we need to walk to the other side of the building. Elevators in these buildings only serve every other floor for some reason.
Thank you! Because there are too many guests in this building, the elevator is overloaded and often breaks down. I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.
