Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IsraelThe enterance is through the sketchy market. Every time you want to return to your room you need to wait in line for a dingy elevator that takes forever to arrive (it serves 16 floors!) and can only accommodate 5 people. We stayed in a double room - it is super tiny with barely enough space for a double bed. There are no windows. The toilet is in the shower, they share the same space and the toilet seat gets wet every time you take a shower.
Great location. Clean room. Also quite affordable.

United KingdomFelt unsafe walking through the Mansion, many people coming up to me hassling me to buy what they were selling or buy a room in their guesthouse. Beware of walking through here on your way in/out of the guesthouse.
Wifi was good and it is located centrally with easy access to airport bus stop.

South KoreaThe room is very small, including bathroom maybe 9 m^2. Also, there is no sound isolation whatsoever. That´s ok for the price though. What I didn´t understand is why we were woken up at 8 am only to be asked if we wanted to check out that day. Also, we had a hard time finding the place. A short explanation would have been helpful, especially because we arrived during the night and had to wake the personel up. So let me tell you: the reception is in Block D, but the rooms can be in Block A, B or D.
Location very good and personel was nice. Also for this price, you can hardly find anything better. Our room had a window that actually brought sunlight. What else?

ItalyI wrote my longest review ever in the effort of encouraging more people to stay here and help this place get the score it really deserves on Booking. Nevertheless, I didn't my self give the highest score because there's still room for improvement. But I want to reiterate I'm talking about minor things, and you don't even need incredible adaptation skills to stay here, as you get everything you need.
First of all: out of the many guesthouses that are inside the Chungking Mansions, all with mixed reviews, I need to say that the reason why I chose this one is because it was the only one where the manager replied to every single review, even the bad ones, in a courteous manner. Jupiter is such a nice person, and was always so responsive to my messages. From the moment you book you immediately get all the information to reach the hotel from the airport, but then you can fill him with any kind of questions and he will promptly reply. Secondly: don't believe the bad score this room has on Booking. If you check websites like Trip.com or Agoda, which are mostly used in Asia, the score is way better. This shows how us Europeans and Westerners in general are picky. Could the room help some redecorating? Yes. Is the bathroom microscopic? Indeed, there is a toilet, a small sink and hose for shower, and when you shower everything gets wet. But it is dirty? No. It is comfortable? Yes. The small room have a large single bed, AC, a desk with a chair, a desk lamp, an extension with several plugs, and powerful Wifi. This is more than I had in many other hotels where I have been in Europe that just look nicer or had a larger bathroom. Also, the bed is high with an empty space underneath where you can store your luggages (I didn't need it as I'm a backpacker, but just so you know). The room is quite soundproof, you will rarely hear noises from outside. Honestly, I also have the feeling that my room was not even the best room, and others were nicer. Still, I slept well, I spent time in my room when I needed and never had any problems. There is a small common area where you can have your breakfast, take cold or hot water (fill your bottle) and microwave food. Also, regarding Chungking Mansions: don't be scared. I myself read stories that made me think it was a dodgy place, but this is a reputation that belongs to the past. It is a completely safe place!

United StatesWe walked into this sketchy apartment tucked inside a big building which was hard to navigate to the correct floor and Apartment. Then we were met by a homeless guy right at the door of the apartment. He asked us to wait a minute while he went to wash his dinner plate in the sink. Then he came back, unlocked a gate, and led us through this dark, narrow hallway into a tiny, cramped room. The place was filthy—dirty sheets, bugs crawling around, and towels with hair all over them. We didn’t even think twice—we turned around and left immediately.
Absolutely nothing.

United StatesI arranged to drop off my luggage at 0730, but owners did not answer the phone, and were not present (they claimed 24 hour reception) at their "office". Others were trying to reach reception w/o any luck. I tried and waited several hours; no go. Finally, I booked another hotel. I would avoid this type of "mansion hotel" at all costs. They are simply not dependable.
there was nothing positive in my experience with this business.

United StatesOf course the room is small - this IS the Chunking Mansions.
The guest house is clean. They actually provide amenities like a towel, soap, toothbrush and paste if needed. Of course the location is super; the A21 bus from the airport leaves you at the front door. And the metro is a 5 minute walk. 10 minute walk to the VH promenade. One of the better guest houses I've stayed in at CM. Be advised, I AM comparing this to the other guest houses in CM. You get what you paid for. Oh, and plenty of good places to eat in CM.
