Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BahamasLoved our stay here! When no we arrived we booked for 1 night and the lovely, charming owner said “most people stay 2-3… we stayed for three. The bed is so comfy and our room had a great view of the lake. The lake is great for a dip after a hot day exploring.

FranceI loved everything about this place and wished I would have stayed for weeks! The room was big, clean, comfortable with an amazing view on the lake, especially at sunset and sunrise, when you can see a lot of birds (among which green parakeets, red-lored parrots, etc.). There were mosquito nets, but I didn’t see a single mosquito throughout my 3-night stay. The AC was quiet and worked perfectly, and the room had great Wi-Fi I used for a work video call. The room comes with a balcony, where you can find a table, chairs and hammock. There is also a kitchen you can use in common spaces. Umberto is an amazing host! He is very kind and helped me throughout my stay, even offering to lend me money when I had trouble withdrawing from the ATM, which I really appreciated in this stressful situation. He arranged my tours to Yaxha and Tikal, and the hotel’s location is very convenient, right where shuttle and colectivos stop and just in front of El Remate’s only ATM. It is a 5 min walk from the laundry shop, and within a 5 min walk from many great cafes and restaurants (Cahui, La Puerto, Casa de Don David, Doña Mari, etc.). I hesitated between staying in El Remate or Flores, but now that I have been to both, I am happy that I got to experience a quieter side of Lake Petén, with better sunset views and amazing restaurants, closer to Tikal and Yaxha archaeological sites. Highly recommended!

FranceThe kitchen could have more utensils and more tables. When the hotel is full it's difficult to be all together. Mattresses are a little bit weird but it's ok.
Location is nice. Room is big. Cool staff. Hot shower. You can dry your clothes outside and each room has its own table/chair and hammock. Cleaning is done everyday. We could check-in earlier (the room was ready)

United KingdomAll good.
We really enjoyed it here, the village is so nice and probably the best and quietest we've seen in guatemala. The host was friendly and we booked a tikal tour and then onward shuttle through him both of which were really good. The room was good, hot water and thick walls so we slept well!

SwitzerlandWe arrived 3 people less than prenoted and asked politely if we by any chance could cancel one of our rooms. The host agreed to try to sell the room and if he finds guests, refund us the money. The room was not sold but we also didnt get informed that we should/could use the extra room anyways. We would have appreciated better communication since we had exchanged numbers since the beginning.
Great location, beautiful large rooms, great price/value, parking in a safe place, owner helps organize many things, super starting point to go to Tikal! 100% recommended!

SwedenThe fridge / freezer in the shared kitchen did not work. There was not hot water in the shower.
The room was big and had working A/C. The bed was comfortable and it's pet friendly. The outside area had a hammock and some chairs. It was perfect to stay two nights for our visit to Tikal. The owner also helped us to organize a ride to Coban.

UruguayThat don't have laundry service so we had to walk a couple of blocks to the laundry place. It's not a bad thing at all but just want the people to know
The room, the bathroom, the shower and the bed were very big, comfortable and clean. The location is excellent and the staff very kind. Every room has a porch with garden furniture and a hammock. The lake is very close and you get the lake view and sunset from the premises. We were able to see it from our room There is a huge kitchen very well equipped that you can use. We really loved this place

United StatesLots of mosquitos! The lake/dock isn't as close as the pictures made it seem and swimming is at your own risk as crocodiles live in the area...
Great location in the center of the small town. Everything was within short walking distance. Long size bed, large window, nice TV, large clean bathroom, and hammock on the front patio area. No complaints! Shared kitchen area was adequate for preparing simple meals.

GuatemalaI would only reduce price per night a bit to compensate for various problems: there was a leak in the bathroom sink so I constantly had to close/open the tap from under the sink, there was 3-4 spots of gekko shit on each bed, and those neon light bulbs everybody uses but are horrible. No carpets on the floor so I nearly fell because my feet were wet and floor super slipery, and only one smal garbadge in the bathroom, none in the room.
Very Clean and close to everything. Nice big shared kitchen. There was a comode and some hooks to hang/store clothes, that is seldom found in Guatemala hotels.

AustraliaThe owner/manager Umberto was so kind and helpful. We were able to organise all our shuttles and tours with him. Great central but quiet location on the lake, next to local swimming spot. Kitchen and filtered water supplied. Nice and close to Tikal so you don’t have to wake up as early as those coming from Flores. Good aircon, had excellent sleeps despite the heatwave.

It is dog friendly & he didn’t mind that we left the dogs in our room while we went to Tikal. The room was clean & comfortable. The grounds were amazing & well kept with beautiful plants. Hands down would come back to stay again for longer!

Very pleased we stayed in El Remate as it was close to Tikal and the border with Belize. The hotel / our room had lake views and we swan from the dock close by. The room was very clean , we had the end room so had the best view. Nice balcony and close to shops and restaurants . Friendly owner , Humberto, organised a great tour to Tikal ( 5:30 am pickup ) with a group.
