How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The setting is right in the heart of the main street of Panajachel, the busiest town on Lake Atitlan. But once you enter Mario's Rooms hostel, you are in a protected, quiet, stone floored corridor, that takes you to an unassuming reception desk, all lined with lovely flowering plants, pictures, furniture, just lovely. For this price range, the quality of the environment FAR exceeded my expectations. My room was towards the back, had it's own curtained windows, a private bath, a comfortable bed, and everything was spotless and fresh and neat. The solid wooden door to my room had a perfectly working lockset, not always the case in hostel/hotels, lol. For $20 a night, Mario's is a gem!

You need to pay for your room with cash - however there is a very convenient ATM just across the street.
The property is in a great spot in Pana, close to the main restaurants and bars. There’s a really good laundry place around the corner. The courtyard is very beautiful with plants and a garden. The staff were very friendly.

Simple room, but very clean and comfortable - had everything that I needed. The location is just perfect, near everything, with an ATM just crossing the street and has a nice restaurant in there, serving breakfast and lunch.

Close to airport. Environment seemed safe as in gated community. Staff was amazing. Airport pick up late at night possible for small surcharge. Room was cozy. Breakfast was simple but really tasty. Bathroom no space to leave anything and weak water pressure.

Highly recommend Mario’s rooms! My room was comfortable, clean, and very reasonably priced. Location is also excellent and they have a nice quiet courtyard

Only one electrical plug in the room (another in the bathroom) and it was inconveniently located. Noisy because on a busy street.
Pretty garden. Sense of privacy in my room. Nice staff. The restaurant that was right there. Convenient location. A couple of hotel cats. Hammock on the landing for anyone to enjoy. Great hot shower. Easy walk to ferries to other places on the lake.

Very clean rooms in perfect location in town. Great value and cute little court yard. Had to do work emails from the hotel and no complaints!

I stayed in a triple room (one small double and 1 small single) and it was totally fine for 1 person (and for 2 just about) but for 3 would be very crowded.
superb price / quality ratio. The rooms are pretty small - but its quiet (at least the rooms at the back were), beds were comfortable, wifi was good, hot water (in both shower and basin) and all for a very very reasonable price. The staff only speak spanish but with a bit of google translate its not an issue. This isnt' a luxury hotel - but for the money was superb

The hotel is located in the center and is less than 10 minutes' walk from the dock. I really like the lush garden and the cats. Wifi is strong and fast and hot water runs well. Staff are friendly and helpful.

My room was particularly noisy as next to reception and the bed was a bit hard.
I didn’t have time for breakfast. The staff were extremely helpful especially when I had to use the phone to call the shuttle bus which was late.

Payment is cash only.
Nice place in a good location to access everything in Panajachel. It was a short walk to the shuttle pick up/drop off and ferry point. It is right on the main busy road so it can be noisy at night but we asked for a quiet room and we didn’t hear any noise and slept well. Good hot water in the shower, Wi-Fi and fan in the room. Comfortable beds and nice inner courtyard area.

Mario's Rooms is in a great location, in the most important street in Panajachel and close to everything. The place is nice, cozy and clean, and the prices are very affordable.

My favorite place to stay in Pana! I loved it so much that I ended up extending my stay, it is very peaceful and quiet here. The rooms have all the essentials, and the hotel has a garden filled with beautiful art. The staff at both the hotel and the connected restaurant are incredibly kind, and I loved seeing the cats and the bunny roaming around. I’ll definitely be back!
