Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesKasa Kiwi is a delightful, classic hostel. The owner/host, Tom, was very helpful, and if you are an English speaker you'll appreciate the ease of communicating (all-Spanish is typical). Very clean and well run. Nice!

United KingdomThe hostel looks like it hasn’t been decorated or any items replaced in about 30/40 years. However, this doesn’t matter much. Karaoke was extremely loud and put some of us off from going to the bar but finished by 10. The room was noisy but I soon realised that every central location in Xela is the same!
For the price, this was great. Really helpful, Friendly owners who organised excursions for others and gave advice about transport. I actually got a double bed in my dorm room which was comfortable. Bathroom facilities were outside downstairs and basic but clean. Social vibe and great location in Xela.

United StatesShowers were great! Bed was comfy! Location was amazing, and they were communicative and helpful. The kitchenware, specifically to cook with was not in good condition at all. The water filters were so slow that most of us had to just go buy water instead of being able to fill up with the filtered water. I really struggled with a lack of communal space to hang out. There’s a rooftop but it doesn’t have comfortable seating at all- none of the chairs have backs really. I couldn’t find anywhere to relax to read or just chill. Hammocks or lounge type chairs would be a great addition!

United StatesBathroom situation is a little weird, only one sink with mirror, location could get a little loud in the morning, some times the kitchen was a bit crowded
Comfortable rooms/bed, great vibe, friendly/attentive staff, kitchen, hot water, social atmosphere with other travelers, tom is super helpful and even helped another traveler figure out their travel plans!

NetherlandsPotential for improvement: - Beds are not very comfy - Electric showers are not great (good water pressure or heat but not both) - Water filter is very slow - Lots of noise from the bar whereas most guest get up early to hike - Make more of an effort to link solo travellers as all tours require a minimum of 2 people, easy fix: create a whatsapp group for the guests. - An indoor common area would be nice.
The kitchen is nice (but would be nice to equip with some basics such as oil). Dorm is spacious with plugs and tables/cupboards for each bed. Atmosphere is nice. Good location. Hosts are nice (but often not present).

United Kingdom- Tours can only go ahead with minimum 2 people booking (I was solo travelling so couldn't do any) - Noisy on a night (but only until about 22:00) when they have karaoke in the bar upstairs (Tuesday night)
-Private room with private bathroom was huge -Kitchen and free refill water -Location is great for Xela (near to the square)

AustraliaNoise, you can hear everything from the room, the music at the rooftop bar till 9/10pm, people leaving early or packing their things for hikes right outside your room. It gets quiet again by 6/7am, but if you need a good sleep before a big hike, you might get a better sleep somewhere else. Just to note, toilets and showers may not be on your room level.
Very friendly staff, location is great, close to cafes, food stalls, restuants and bars, plus rooftop has a great view. Private rooms are good value for money.

United StatesWe stayed in a garden view private room. It was a really comfortable stay. I liked the rooftop area and bar. Traveling with my partner it was a great budget room. The hostel seems like it's a good place for solo travelers too that are interested in meeting new people. The hostel also accommodates shuttles and outings. The location is fun and close to many restaurants, the park, and bars, but did not give off a huge party scene.

NetherlandsMy room didn’t had a bathroom/toilet. So for us we had to get outside. And it can be very rainy. On the day is not much of an issue, at night I would like it to have. It was not clear to me that it’s on the pictures with a symbol which mentioned which rooms do have a toilet and which do not.
The socializing in the kitchen. It’s a good kitchen aswell. Spacious rooms. Good location. Detailed informations what you can do in Xela and how. Friendly people. Good view at the rooftop terrace.

Really lovely hostel in the centre of Xela. The owners were so helpful and welcoming; they took the time to explain all the tours and offer advice on the best things to do. A social vibe with plenty of other travellers to chat to and the roof terrace was a good place to chill in the day!

CanadaOnly two showers and toilets for everyone in the dorms. These could also only be accessed by leaving your dorm and walking downstairs outside which was a bit annoying as Xela gets quite chilly at night.
