How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe staff here are so so lovely and will back you feel at home and part of the family. I really enjoyed speaking with the volunteers and they did everything possible to make me comfortable and help me. The guesthouse is really homey and creates a very relaxing atmosphere.
This is just me personally, but I was really disappointed in the property - outside of the main house, the place felt like it was in the middle of building projects - it felt a bit unloved and unkept. The rooms are basic and relatively clean. It is a budget guesthouse, so it does reflect the price. However, I did book to stay in the solo room with attached bathroom and there was a large gap between the walls and the ceiling - as someone who is afraid of spiders and other insects, I was really uncomfortable and unhappy with this. The volunteer was amazing and fully understood and put me in another room, although this too had a gap, so the door did not fully close. Again, the volunteer was amazing about this and offered me to move again, but by this stage, I decided I was going to leave the next day and stay somewhere else, so I agreed to just stay in the room that night, as I didn’t want to cause anymore fuss. The owner has been away for a while, so this may explain why the place looked unkept and untidy, but it does have so much potential to be a really lovely oasis in San Lucas.

Verified reviewCasa Qatzig is a good place to meet other travelers. I hiked up Atitlán Volcano with two other guests, for example, which was great! The rooms are reasonably priced. The volunteer staff members are nice and full of good information and they put together a useful little guidebook for guests of things to do and places to go. The shared bathroom was kept clean. The Wifi worked well. The place is easy to find and the location is very central overall. There's a nice outdoor seating area/garden.
Casa Qatzig can be rather noisy at time, especially at night. For example, the dog that lives there usually barks and sometimes runs around like crazy. Furthermore, the TV in the common area as well as the volunteers themselves are often very loud. Depending on the day of the week and the time of day, the neighborhood can also be raucous. In other words, you might want to bring good earplugs along. Also, the kitchen is small and a bit messy and the volunteers use it just about every day multiple times to cook their meals, so if you want to prepare food you might have to squeeze yourself in there. Sometimes you feel like the volunteers own the place even though it's the guests who should have priority with regard to everything.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Casa Qatzij. We truly appreciate your honest feedback, both complimentary as well as constructive in the suggestions you make. This helps us improve and create a more comfortable space for all our guests. It's wonderful you met other travelers with whom you could hike the volcano and that you found the room prices reasonable and that you valued the suggestions offered in the guide we prepared for guests. We sincerely regret that noise levels, particularly from Qatzij (our resident dog), the common area, and the surrounding neighborhood, impacted your stay. Your comments highlight areas we need to be more mindful of, and we will be discussing possible solutions with our team, including our volunteers, to ensure a better balance between creating a welcoming atmosphere and respecting our guests’ need for rest. Your observations about the kitchen space and the volunteers’ use of it are also very helpful. We understand that a shared kitchen should be easily accessible to all, and we will address this with our team to ensure guests always feel prioritized and comfortable when preparing meals. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will be bringing these points into our team discussions to make improvements wherever possible. We truly appreciate your stay with us and hope to welcome you back in the future under even better conditions. Thanks again for taking the time to let us know your experience.

Verified reviewI had an unforgettable experience at Casa Qatsij. As a solo traveler, it truly felt like home during my stay. I ended up extending my visit three times because I just couldn’t get enough. A big thank you to the volunteers—Gina, Tori, and Mauri—along with Andres and all the other guests who made my time there so memorable. These are moments I will cherish forever.
It is always such a pleasure to host guests like Aloise. She actually went beyond being an ideal guest. She is the ideal among the ideals!! We loved that she extended her stay since she enjoyed being here so much, and we absolutely enjoyed her. We will likely treasure her for the rest of our lifetimes, and probably into the next!!! So much warmth and love your way, dearest Aloise!!

Verified reviewI never walked into a guest house where it felt such like home immediately. Mostly thanks to the warm, friendly and helpful staff. Besides that the guesthouse has a cozy living and dining room and a kitchen with everything you need. I wish I could have stayed longer, but will definitely try to come back one day. Thanks everyone of Casa Qatzij for making this stay very special.

Verified reviewThe staff are wonderful and the atmosphere is very engaging and friendly. They are genuinely open and interested in you and ensuring you have a wonderful time. The casa itself is stunning. It has a wonderful understated elegance. It works really well as a guesthouse while still having the best elements of a hostel where you can meet travellers, have conversations and connect across varied cultures. The location is local.... you interact with locals who are relaxed, friendly and polite. Andres will explain how to have the best local experiences, including, the chicken bus, truck pick up and public la lancha experiences as well as authentic craft. The casa is very good value for money.

Verified reviewVery nice building, affordable privates, and friendly staff. You can do your laundry there by hand (free, soap provided), or use their washing machine (paid). Kitchen is well maintained. Showers and washrooms are good. Place is safe. Dogs are very well behaved. Great location, close to the market and main square.
Got locked inside one of the privates I stayed in. They door knob lock is faulty. If you lock from outside with the key, go inside, then close the door, you can't get out. Was lucky one of the staff was there to open the door for me from the outside, but could have been a problem if it was at another time. I'm sure they will fix it, so if you're reading this it's probably nothing to worry about (but maybe check).
Thanks so much for staying at Casa Qatzij, Andrew. We hope you will come back and it will be great to have you stay in the room where we've fixed the door knob. Apologies for what happened to you. We really appreciate your feedback!
