Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe mosquitoes. Got eaten alive the first day. I take responsibility for visiting a mangrove in the wet season, but my goodness... Took a bit of effort to get the mosquito net to enclose the bed properly
Nice little hotel, felt like a mini adventure staying in the mangrove. Food was good, and the staff friendly enough to humour our "Spanish". Swimming in the lake after a hot day was great. Got some of the best sleep of our trip so far to the sound of the rain on the tin roof. Turtle spotting in the swamp was fun

GermanyDorm will be very small when it's full. There's only one outlet, very small lockers (a tablet and other valuables can fit, though). It's in the mangroves and there's hardly any wind, so it gets very hot. Only cash (ATM in Río Dulce).
Beautiful place right in nature, clean, mosquito nets, good food in the restaurant, free use of kayaks, they organize tours and shuttles to Lívingston, will take you to Río Dulce by boat, several places to chill in hammocks, good water pressure in the shower, quiet at night and then birds.

SwitzerlandI had a wonderful time here. the location in the mangroves is beautiful, the little wooden huts look so nice, there are many calm places to relax and the staff was helpful and friendly. my absolut favorite were the free canoes, with wich you can canoe to the hostels own platform in the rio dulce. also the boat ride from rio dulce to the hostel and back is free, they send you the details in the welcome message. I would definitely book this hostel again :)

HungaryFood is overpriced, EXTREMELY small portion of breakfast for 50-60 Quetzales, they keep room prices low and gain on food as they are exclusive providers - which is ok, but really portion very comicly small - really like like decreasing the profit on each meal by 5 quetzales would end up bumping the portion 30% lol, no drinking water,
Greatnlocation, literally in the jungle, reasonably priced for location and style, free kayak and free doc to swim an relax. Helpful swiss guy who run the place, helps in transportation and you can leave your bags for the day as well.

SingaporeThe hotel is in the middle of the jungle which makes it really beautiful. You can explore everything by kayak (they are free), there is a swimming platform in the river and there are a lot of hammocks and seating areas in the hotel to just enojoy yourself. Although it's remote you can easily reach the town of rio dulce by boat which the hotel staff can arrange for you. The staff is really friendly and helpful - knowing spanish makes your life a lot easier, but some speak english or even german. You can get everything from water to food at the hotel. The rooms and the bathroom were very clean, there are mosquito nets over the beds and the fan is really powerful. Very good value for money!

United KingdomI minded a bit that you're charged for everything - including water and tea and coffee, it just made it feel less friendly
Serene location, with upstairs rooms open to jungle. Tasty, though expensive, restaurant.

NetherlandsWould be great if they added some local food on the restaurant menu. It was mostly European.
Very nice hotel with amazing staff! It is in the jungle, so you can expect some creepy crawlers here and there, but that's part of the experience 😉. Nice relaxation areas and food was very reasonably priced. Also a big fan of the free kayaks! We had a really good time

CanadaI think they should allow a guests fridge or place to store food, since they don't want you to keep food in the rooms to deter bugs.
Such a beautiful place to stay, quite and serene. The staff were super kind and helpful. I even forgot something when I left and they made sure it got back to me before I left Rio Dulce. You get there by boat so keep in mind that if you want to eat elsewhere or want to buy anything, you have to take a short boat ride to town. Its fairly priced to boat to and from and there is a restaurant at the hotel with a huge selection of food. I would definitely stay here again.

United KingdomAs you are mainly contained to the hotel you have to buy all your food from the restaurant. Food is okay, on the pricier side. Bedrooms are open air (with mosquito net) - I enjoyed this but may not be for everyone.
The hotel is so beautiful situated in the trees. The kayak to the swimming platform is so beautiful.
