How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe management and staff were super friendly and helpful. The hotel is so clean and tidy and we ate in the restaurant a few times as it was good traditional food. We hired a little fiat panda, from the hotel travel agency, and zipped about the island in the mornings before it got too busy and hot. It was a fab week, highly recommend!
Not really a dislike, but to note that the hotel is on a busy road. Luckily our room was in the back, so we didn't notice the road noise.
Thank you

Verified reviewThe pool was perfect and refreshing. The restaurant on site is delicious!! The entire place is so clean! They really care about the property and its upkeep and it shows proudly!
This is very minor because it was an experience in itself- but the stairs to the bedroom were very steep and narrow. Just had to be careful. Again very minor but did make me nervous at times.
Thank you for your stay and your review. We upgraded you to a marvelous grand suite where the bed is upstairs, and this is the traditional style of rooms!! you are welcomed any time!!

Verified reviewThis was my 6th time visiting Santorini. I was traveling with my family. We loved the rooms, the location( we aren’t into touristy areas), the pool, restaurant and delicious breakfast! If you rent a car, you have access to the island since it’s small. Kostas is very knowledgeable! He helped us with our travel to Athens and Turkey. I miss Hotel Mathios and wish I was back! Thank you Kostas, we will be back! My daughter cried the night before we left! She wanted to stay!
Nothing.. We loved it all!
Thankyou very much!!! You are always welcomed. I am very happy you had such amazing holidays

Verified reviewWe were in Santorini and we are really fortunate to have booked Mathios. We were really blown away by the great service, amazing food and the extremely friendly nature of the staff. Special mention to Mr Kostos who went out of the way to make our stay memorable by helping us book the best of best and most exquisite tours. He was so kind that he dropped us personally to the airport as a favor. Thank you Mr Kostos and Mathios team to make this trip really the best one until now.
thank you for your stay we are glad to hear that you had an excellent time. We hope to see yoy again

Verified reviewVery quiet, very clean ,good location to village, loved the cats visiting us.
Although rooms say sea view the view is far away in the distance you need a car to get to a beach.
Thank you for your stay. Nowhere is stated that the sea is near. There are 2 beaches, one is near the hotel, 10 min. on foot and the other 15 mn on foot or 2 min by car.

Verified reviewHotel was pristine clean. Towels and bed sheets were changed every other day. Breakfast was good quality, although the variety stayed the same. Pool was clean and pleasant. Food in the restaurant was good, although we ate there only occasionally. The famous Red beach is 30 minutes walk from the hotel. Also, quite close is the Akrotiri museum, which is worth visiting, if you’re interested.
Sadly, the location was not the best for us, as we didn’t have a car. We quite liked “Perissa” beach but to get there without a car meant to book taxi every day(be prepared, that they are quite expensive in Santorini). The second option was by changing two buses but the 15 minutes ride by taxi would take us nearly 2 hours as there was long gap between both buses. It is extremely hot at that time of year and there are barely any trees to give shade on the bus stops. Also, if you prefer to walk, be prepared to do so on the busy main road as there are no pavements at all. You need to bring as well your own towels or get towels from the hotel for an extra charge. There is lots to do in Santorini such as catamaran trip, bus tour highlights of Santorini with wine tasting and sunset in Oia etc but if you prebook ahead of your visit to Santorini, you can get them for much more reasonable price.
Thank you for your stay in our hotel. the problem that you referred is not for the hotel, it is known that Akrotiri is a calmer and more quiet place than the busy FIRA and OIA. If someone wants to explore and visit Santorini, they can do it by car, transfers and tours. An organised tour to see all the sights. Thank you again and we hope to see you again

Verified reviewThe hotel was good and in a good location , and near the famous Red Beach and another, which provided a good view. I also kostas is really helpful and friendly and all the staff as they were nice and kind throughout my stay, which made my stay quite nice and comfortable.
The only thing I didn't like is that we didn't have a choice in what we ate as the buffet was very limited and dinner was determined by the hotel meaning some foods were kind of repeated which we disliked and in the end we were sick of the same starters.
Thank you for your review, it is nice to read that you enjoyed your stay. The breakfast buffet had plenty of choices among sweets and savoury dishes so you had the opportunity to change. Now as concerning the menu, we serve a 4- course dish different menu every day. Have a nice summer

Verified reviewClose to the wedding venue. Market & atm next door. Breakfast good!
On main road. Noisy & limited parking.Pool was only open from 10am-6pm. Should extend the hours! Guy tried to sell us tour when we first arrived when all we wanted to do was shower & sleep. Beds were small & not that comfortable.
Thank you for your review but I am really sorry I read some lies you wrote. First and foremost the pool hours are from 9.00-20.00 and there is written on the pool rules around the pool. Second there is parking space out of the hotel and many cars park there and in 50 metres fron the hotel there is a big parking space that a lot of cars park there. Also I gave you some information about SANTORINIjust in case you wanted to ee the sights, only that without pressing. Last but not least you have booked a standard room in a 3 star hotel latest renovated and these are the rooms with normal beds and not king size. Thank you and I wish a nice summer.

Verified reviewThe tranquility of the hotel - set by the village in Akratori. You can walk to the archeological site and red beach The pool is clean. I would recommend that the hotel consider putting an outside shower by the pool so that swimmers can use before entering the pool. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and had a variety of items on offer. The hotel was very clean and towels were changed daily. The rooms were airy and had pleasant terraces.
The added extras - you pay 3 euros for a pool towel and the price of the airport transfer seems higher than other quoted prices.
Firsty we thank you for your review. Now as you mention the outside shower, we have, there is shower for everyone before entering the pool, you had to read the pool rules that there are outside. As considering the towels we explained to you that there is no water on the island so we have to send everything for washing and it is expensive. Have a nice summer

Verified reviewWalking distance to Arkotiri archeological site. Nice breakfast On the island bus route.
Exorbitant hotel charge for transportation to/from ferry port. The food at dinner was not very good. The hotel host was somewhat aggressive promoting additional, optional hotel charges.

Verified reviewSpotlessly clean hotel. Very comfy bed and the pool was fab. Breakfast and restaurant very good. Akrotiri is a lovely and interesting village. Short walks get you to the castle, the beach and an amazing experience at the excavations of an ancient city. Local restaurants, mini markets and a few gift shops were very handy. More bars and restaurants down at the sea front, with boat trips to the red, white and black beach were excellent. A great bus service runs hourly from Akrotiri to Fira and public transport was very reliable.
On our first day we were summoned by the receptionist to see the manager, Kostas. (The experience reminded us of The Apprentice with Kostas being Alan Sugar.) We did not want or need the 'travel agency' advice given, nor the cash only payment expectations, with premium added, for cars, boat trips and transfers etc. We were then no longer of any interest to the management team. The pool bar and cafe closed from 2.30 until 6.30 every afternoon. However buying drinks and refreshments from the well stocked mini market next door to drink by the pool was not allowed and at times led to admonishment. Constructive reviews are not well accepted.
Thank you for your stay. we always do our best to satisfy our guests and the information about the island and the ways to explore it is necessary but NOT OBLIGATORY!! I never push anyone but only give some info for better enjoyment. thank you again and good luck
