Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaI liked everything, but having access to a kitchenette on site would be great.
The place is very nicely decorated, Bintu cleaned it very well, everything was comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. The walk to the beach or to restaurants wasn't too bad, but could be hot and dusty. Thanks for the relaxing stay.

United KingdomIt wasn't a problem for me but it should be noted it is fan's only and not air conditioned.
The Madinka Lodge was a little oasis near the Senegambia Strip and beach. Diane and Lamin were wonderful hosts, and the other staff, Bintu (cleaner), Boba, and Backa (security), were always friendly and helpful. The gardens, chill out areas, and small pool provided a lovely relaxing atmosphere that I spent quite a few hours in watching the colourful birds and lizards. The lodge is about 5-10 mins walk to the strip and a further 5 to the beach. Its worth walking another 10 mins to the poco loco beach bar as that's a much better beach.

GermanyThe area is not really walkable, you have to travel everywhere by car because of the state of the roads, heavy traffic, and people bothering foreigners. So even though the beach is not so far you will still need a taxi to get there. Also be aware there is no air con, which for me was fine.
A very beautiful comfortable and well-kept lodge, the surrounding garden is totally lush and idyllic with lots of singing birds that will wake you up in the morning. I loved its traditional design, you can tell a lot of care and attention went into it. The hosts and the staff were super friendly and helpful at all times and will make you feel at home. Thank you Diane Lamin and all the staff for my wonderful stay!

NetherlandsThe street the lodge is on has no lights, quite close to the beaches and restaurants but at night not the nicest walk back (you can of course take a taxi).
Diane and Lamine are the kindest hosts, and my room was great, nicely done and spacious. The lodge is down a smaller street, very calm and quiet.

United KingdomOur stay at Mandinka Lodge was exemplary, and there was nothing to dislike.
Our stay at Mandinka Lodge in The Gambia was incredible, thanks to the exceptional hospitality of Diane, Lamin, and their team. From the moment we arrived, they provided insightful information on the country. They recommended local places to see, such as Paradise Beach, where we enjoyed delicious fish and chips. Lamin also took us to the Tanji fish market, where we witnessed the unloading of fishing boats. This experience was genuinely worth it. Throughout our stay, Diane and Lamin were readily available to ensure our experience exceeded our expectations. Diane's optional breakfast was delicious, and we loved trying the locally made Baobab Juice and Wonjo Juice. If we preferred to stay in for dinner, Lamin would happily arrange for us to have a local takeaway, and Diane would supply us with beer for a small cost. The lodge's natural ambience was remarkable, featuring a roof crafted from coconut palms, screened windows, and a charming porch. The rooms were comfortable, with a mosquito net-covered bed, tiled floors, and rattan furniture, and the closet provided ample hanging space. Although a safe was available, we felt secure and didn't need to utilise it. The pool area was stunning, providing the perfect place to relax after a day of exploration. Additionally, we embraced the local custom of showering with a bucket and cup, which, although unfamiliar to some, was quite exhilarating, especially when using cold water. Overall, we loved our stay at Mandinka Lodge and would undoubtedly go again. Diane, Lamin, and their team went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable, and we cannot thank them enough. We highly recommend Mandinka Lodge to anyone seeking an exceptional experience in The Gambia.

United KingdomThere was nothing I did not like.
The hosts Lamin and Dianne were most welcoming, personally escorted to room on arrival, which was beautiful and clean. Location was good, walking distance to the beach and restaurants There was a pool when walking to beach was too much. There is 24 hour security and always felt welcomed as a lone traveller. The garden area was peaceful and relaxing. Personal touches extended were thoughtful. Would highly recommend Mandinka Lodge, and would stay again. Thank you.

CanadaIt’s a little hard to find as first as it’s on a small road and corner, but there is an indication to find it. The road outside could be improve as it’s a little hard to walk in especially when it rains. It would be nice yo have a microwave in each houses to make it easier to warm up the food.
Very nice lodge with beautiful plants. The African style houses are very confortable and pretty. It’s a very calm area to stay ideal to rest and relax, never too crowded.
