How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe room was clean for a hostel and appeared to be cleaned everyday which made a big difference especially when sharing with others.
Location wasn’t the greatest for me, it was a bit of an effort to get to the main areas. This is on me, I should have realised when I looked at the hostel on the map. It is close to tower bridge, which is good.

Verified reviewI like staying here because the staff are always friendly and the rooms are clean. I also like the location, not too far from Tower Bridge.
More options at breakfast would be good, other then that I was happy with my stay.

Verified reviewLots of facilities - laundry on site, options pay for late check out, storage, power adapters. decent kitchen on site. Curtains and fans were good allowing for privacy and cool air for summer. Bathroom and toilet in the dorm so you didn’t need to leave your room with your key card. Very social and everyone was really nice and friendly.
On one night we had no toilet paper in the female dorm toilets so cleaning staff to keep an eye on this. The soap dispenser was broken in our bathroom - did report it at the start of my trip but it was still broken by day 7. The design of the safe to keep valuables was appreciated however the design of the safe’s electricity socket didn’t work with my adapter so I had to rely on charging my devices by usb. I had my groceries marked with my name and date but someone kept stealing my eggs on 2 occasions. Cost of breakfast was a bit steep £8 for continental breakfast- no eggs. The shower needs to have a caddy or soap holder as I don’t like putting my things on the shower floor. It gets quite loud in the kitchen and basement area at night. More quiet chill out spaces please. Also the fridges in the kitchen need a good clear out as there were many items past people’s departure dates.

Verified reviewThis was my first solo hostel experience and Wombats did not disappoint. The property was spotless, food & beverage options were abundant, and the entire staff couldn't have been more cordial or supportive. Definitely recommend.
Nothing. Wombats was perfect.

Verified reviewI liked that the bar was seperate from the eating area so you could cook food and eat without having to be in a bar environment. Sometimes you don’t wanna listen to pop music at 8am or 8pm while eating a meal. Also didn’t feel like they were trying to squeeze me for money by forcing the bar down my throat like other hostels.
Location does feel a bit far, but the bike path is very good and tube is convenient enough.

Verified reviewI find the staff, facilities and location to be great! It's a very nice facility with lots of room, a great bar and patio. 15 minute walk to London Tower, Thames river and bus tours. Nice proximity to resturaunts by a pier.
My biggest complaint was the HEAT!! I was on the 5th floor. As you go up, you can feel the heat increasing with every step. I was in a room with 3 others. The temperature, based on an app I installed on my phone would record the temperature. The highest temp was 35 Celsius!! This is at night on August 12. The blinds would not work so the sun would go in the room all day. Even though the fans in the beds and a floor fan they gave me to use were on, the would push the heat around...no relief from the heat. This made it a miserable stay. Can't sleep. Only a couple hours here and there. It would be cooler in the day so would nap for 1-2 hours to make up for it. The sheets would always be soaked with sweat and there was no comfort in sight. Not so bad if for 1 or 2 nights. I was there for 7 nights! It's very difficult to enjoy a trip and go out in the day when suffering from sleep deprivation and heat exposure! If not for the very uncomfortable environment, It would have been a much better experience. The staff did all they could, I don't blame them for the heat. However, better ventelation and other methods, such as Air Conditioning and cooling methods for the building need to be implemented. Other issues: They lock out visitors from the interior patio at 10PM, so all who want relief from the heat need to be out on the streets. As well as smokers, and they are pushed away from the street area to the end of the block to not disturb the neighbors. Laundy is 5 pounds per cycle...expensive.
Thank you for your kind words about our staff, facilities, and location. We’re sorry the heat affected your stay. While we do not advertise air conditioning, we understand how uncomfortable the warmer days can be. If notified in advance, our reception team is also able to provide additional portable fans to help make the rooms more comfortable. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back for a more enjoyable stay.
