Have always had breakfast when staying. Sad to see obvious reductions and quality in food to save money.

For us a perfect location. Lovely accommodation. Hotel has a great feel and mix between modern and the old. Room was clean and had everything you may need. Comfortable bed, mix of drinks with coffee machine and fridge. Staff friendly and very attentive. Easy parking and some lovely grounds to walk through.

We thought the food in the Brasserie didn’t live up to the prices.

Nice hotel with a mix of old and modern set in extensive grounds within Essex University. Parking to front. Wheelchair access if needed. Friendly reception. Lift to bedrooms. Large comfortable room was very warm but two fans were provided. Garden and terrace to rear of hotel along with the Brasserie/breakfast room.

The toilet in our room was hung wonkily which was a bit disconcerting to sit on. Bathroom sink tap was incredibly difficult to use - very stiff and the full force with water splashing everywhere.

Room windows were very unclean on outside with lots of cobwebs. No obvious air extractor in bathroom.

The hotel was in a superb location. Quiet and lots of facilities. Air con unit in room was much appreciated as it was a very hot week.

Some of the prices at dinner were rather high e.g. steak, and desserts. Not all the staff were helpful in describing the breakfast options.

Overall level of decor, in all rooms, and our bedroom in the new wing, was excellent. Grounds, which are part of Essex University are extensive and contain a number of very old specimen trees. Dinner was served on the terrace, and we were talking to one of the staff, Thelma ( who was dining and staying overnight as part of employee contract,) who was very informative and positive. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice.

The standard rooms are above the dining room and kitchen. There was no problem with noise or smells but the room and corridor were far too hot and that made sleeping very difficult despite having the window open day and night and a fan going all the time too. we slept very badly. The more expensive rooms in the main building with balconies are supposed to be better in this regard.
