This cute corner room in Tarbert is an affordable gem. Our stay in the deluxe room had everything we needed: a comfortable bed, a shower with truly amazing water pressure, fast WIFI, and a great host. While a couple things could be improved, they were small and did not affect our basic use of the amenities. One amazing perk was our room's windows--they overlook the harbor and Tarbert Castle! The location is also incredibly convenient, located around the corner from a supermarket that is open until 22:00 and down the street from several delicious restaurants. As of August 2025, Tarbert has free parking, and there were plentiful spots to park very close by. The guest house is located above the main street, but the sound-proof windows work incredibly well when closed all the way. The Rest is a 3-minute walk to a delicious restaurant with fresh seafood, a 10-minute walk to the castle grounds with hiking opportunities, and a 20-minute drive from the ferry to Arran. The host: Shamsul is super communicative and friendly, responding within minutes to messages and even stopping by the guest house personally. We arrived earlier than estimated, and he was so lovely to allow us to check in early. In addition to leaving water and tea for us, Shamsul went out of his way to gift us Scottish cookies, and gave us copious tips and recommendations about the town and region. He is a truly kind and caring person, and was the highlight of our stay--he even offered to bring us petrol should we run out! Overall, our stay in Tarbert at the Rest was exactly what we needed. Thank you!!

A lovely room, plenty of space to move around, communication with owner was good. It made a lovely change having the key lock number before hand, so many places wait until the last minute.

Access to the property was through a dark unlit passage, but a light did come on at the entrance.

Just wanted a place to sleep and this property fitted the bill perfectly.

A bedside table on both sides of the bed would be good if there was space. also more table room for kettle etc, but in a small roonm this is not always possible.

location was excellent. Proprietor very amenable and helpful, the key was not where it was supposed to be when we arrived but he came very quickly to let us is and check everything was OK. It was clean, neat and comfrotable. Everything worked well.

Very small...but probably in line with the price paid at the end of the day. Rather scruffy initial impressions with approach being round the back of the property then up concrete steps which entails passing the bins and the local Co-op store unloading area. Bathroom with its excellent shower and acceptable loo seriously let down by its ludicrously tiny handbasin - a veritable masterpiece of miniaturisation - which renders impossible any attempt at having a wash without completely covering the floor with water.

Convenient for the centre of Tarbert with nearby on street parking.

The entrance is shocking. Filthy dirty stairs. Door very difficult to unlock. Bins over flowing with old food, booze cans and cigarette buts

A minor thing but the approach to the property from the co op carpark feels a bit un cared for, but thats probably out of the owners control.

Centrally located in Tarbert, room 1 is large and comfortable. Tarbert is a very attractive little town well worth visiting.

Excellent location , lovely clean accommodation. Only downside was the very early wake up call thanks to the co-op delivery van.

Unusual set up for coffees etc outside of the bedroom, with no place to wash dishes. Table in dining area appears broken and fridge/freezer needs a good clean. Whilst it is a great location for the ferry, it's very noisy as is right on the main road and traffic runs past all night. Could do with some lighting along pathway in winter.

Very comfortable and spacious bedroom. Large bathroom with amazing shower. A great location for Kennacraig ferry terminal. Bedroom areas and bathroom very clean. Lovely plush carpet.

No heating in the bathroom and the central heating ie the radiator did not work in bedroom there was an electric one but that also went off.

Position in town was good, the room was large and clean.

I arrived late a night and the stairs up to the property could benefit from a light also in the dark the keys holes weren’t the easiest to operate.

Room was spacious, had everything I needed for a one night stay. Really can’t complain about the room or facilities for the price. For somewhere to stay after getting a late ferry back from Islay before driving home the next day, this place was ideal.

Traffic but view made up for it

Very comfortable and central. Stunning views and just perfect for a quick stopover. Great sized room and tea coffee toiletries provided. Exceeded our expectations for the price.
