How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStaff very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were good, with some choice of cooked breakfast. Room was clean and well-equipped. Location great, in the centre of Wooler which itself is a good base for exploring the area. The pub restaurant offered very hearty meals, though a little pricey.
Water pressure in cold tap was very low indeed, just a trickle. This made the shower somewhat unreliable, occasionally far too hot but difficult to adjust properly. Our room had an internal window which we couldn't open, making the room rather stuffy and dark. The room above us had noisy floorboards! Perhaps somewhat overpriced?

Verified reviewIt’s quirky and a very old building with obvious history. Fabulous location in the heart of Wooler.
Not suitable for people with accessibility issues as lots of stairs due in o age of building

Verified reviewThe room was large with a lovely bath in it, plus en-suite shower/toilet. Enjoyed the fairy lights too. Toiletries provided were good. Staff were helpful and friendly.
There was no decaffeinated coffee at the breakfast bar. The room overlooked the road which was fairly busy during the day but quiet at night.

Verified reviewGood location in Wooler. Comfy bed and quiet once the kitchen staff had finished work for the night.
Everything was OK, but food and general standard of room etc didn’t feel like great value for money.

Verified reviewFriendly staff. Room and public areas were clean. Evening meal was good.
Room was very hot and only able to open a tiny window to let any air in, however the window was above the extractor fan for the kitchen and the smell of cooking food pervaded the room until late into the evening. We had a terrible sleep. Breakfast timing was only 8-9 which was later than we would have liked which meant most guests all appeared at 8 at the same time.

Verified reviewBreakfast was lovely on this our second stay. So was dinner the previous evening.
Room 5 where we were was next to extraction units of pizza place next door so we had to close the window to keep out the smells. Next time we stay we will ensure we have a different room.

Room was fun and quirky, but would benefit from new carpeting and soft furnishings.

Verified reviewThe set up in the bathroom was a big surprise.
Need to pay more attention to details. No cover on shower drain, grout on bathroom floor, no toilet roll holder. Sockets in bedrooms need sealant around or re fitting and tv did not turn off from remote (had to turn off at socket). For me personally not feather bedding. Rooms otherwise look to be very good standard but I work at a country house hotel so eye for details are trained to look at finer details.

Verified reviewLocation and people lovely
Getting in and out - doesn’t run like a hotel. No one on premises in the normal way. Odd layout of hotel meant we had to enter around the back - key worked but someone had put the lock across and we couldn’t get in. No one answered the emergency number. Passer by called someone she knew ! Someone came obviously couldn’t get in and disappeared. Got a text on my prompt to say getting someone to come - we were stuck outside in the rain for 40 mins No reference to this or apology the next day or on leaving

Verified reviewNothing much
The room - it was small,no ventilation. No soap for hand washing or other products were available, the shower had mould in it and the toilet seat was broken. In the bedroom the bedside lights did not work. We brought this to the attention of the staff who said that someone would deal with it straight away ( it was 9.30pm when we reported it) at 10.15pm we went to bed - staff tried to gain access to the room at 10.30 pm. The door to the room had a Venetian blind covering the glass half of the door which was broken. The breakfast supplied fell far short of the description given. We stayed at the same hotel in 2018 and at that time we had been very impressed with all aspects of the hotel, hence our re-booking. We subsequently learned that the ownership of the hotel had changed. I would not stay there again and would advise anybody else from doing so.
