How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location of the property was very private, semi nestled in the woodlands! Fresh farm eggs and cake were left for our arrival, with the option to purchase various wines which were left in the property for us to peruse.
Having a hot tub at the property, it would be handy to have a washing machine. The washing line was broken too, which made drying the towels a bit of a chore, but none of that spoilt our stay.

Verified reviewBeautiful location and, by car, easy to get to all the activities (Tamar Lakes water sports) and sites (Bude, Boscastle) we wanted to visit. Lovely apartment - Appleloft - bigger than we thought, spotlessly clean, well appointed with good quality appliances, well thought out, qaulity bed linen with super comfortable beds and sofas. We loved watching the birds at the bird feeder in the mornings, best view from a bathroom I have ever had :-) with fluffy towels and a good shower which is appreciated after long days out and about. We were pleasantly surprised by the allocated outside area for the apartment - we thought it would be a small bit of garden out the back for us, but it was a lovely space, with wonderful views of the woods - especially enjoyed with a morning cuppa before the day begins. It was quiet and peaceful, eventhough we knew other guests were staying in the other cottages from their cars, we would never otherwise have known! Had some lovely walks locally for our dog. I can't thank our hosts, Melanie and Phil, enough - Melanie was so welcoming after a horrendous drive from London. We had some hiccoughs with major delays getting there and a delivery - but she was so kind, eventhough clearly busy with other arrivals, it really made all the difference!
There is nothing we didn't like.

Verified reviewLovely property excellent hosts. I had no trouble parking but I suspect an older/less expirienced driver may of struggled to turn round on narrow track at front of property. But a minor consideration and I would gladly go back again.
Nothing stay was relaxing access to woods on doorstep and easy access to the sea.

Verified reviewPure nature and an escape. Felt like going back in time, didn't even want to look at my phone or watch tv, there was so much to enjoy. Long nature walks, hot tub, cost bed, stargazing. The owners were incredible. They took the time to make it special for me and my partner and even wrote out a hand written card for him to see. Lovely location, lovely people. Thanks again
Faye, thanks for your review. It was really lovely to meet you both. We're always pleased when our guests enjoy our little slice of heaven. I look forward to seeing you again sometime soon. Phil

Verified reviewThe location was fantastic. Tucked away and very quiet. The property was spotlessly clean, and the bed was really comfortable. We paid the extra for the use of the hot tub, which was lovely. We really enjoyed being outside in the evening and listening to the sound of the owls hooting
The only minor criticism would be that the sofa wasn't the most comfortable and the kitchen could have done with a couple more saucepans. Other than that, everything was great
Sonia, thank you for taking the time for leaving such a wonderful review. We're really pleased that you enjoyed the peace and solitude of our little slice of heaven. Phil & Melanie

Verified reviewSuch a beautiful place to stay, the location is hidden away in the countryside and was the perfect little retreat for our family. We we found the location perfect to radiate out to visit different beaches and sites in Devon and Cornwall and we came home to a little oasis of tranquillity. We found the house really well equipped (particularly the kitchen, which was small but had everything we needed to prepare meals) we also loved the private garden area to have barbecues and enjoyed the wood heated hot tub in the evening after a busy day! The hosts were so welcoming and friendly and they provided an excellent guide to the area inside the holiday house and little touches like a load of bread, milk and butter in the kitchen when we arrived was so thoughtful! I would highly recommend this location to couples or families looking to get away from it all and enjoy some peace!
Nothing serious at all, everything was really well done! The only warning I would heed is that in the house we stayed in the children's room was in a sort of loft/roof space, the kids loved it because it was their own little hide away but the stairs up and down were quite steep and my youngest wasn't quite 3 at the time of travel. There are stair gates at the top and the bottom so we could easily secure it (so its safe) and my little one was actually fine scampering up and down the stairs, it was me that found it a bit tricker climbing up and down for bedtime stories and crawling in to make the beds in the morning etc. I wouldn't let it put you off though unless you have mobility issues. It's just something to have in consideration for younger families. For us it was a fun novelty and as I said the kids adored it.
Hi Rachel, thank you for the wonderful review. I'm so pleased you and the family loved your stay. You're right about the upstairs bedroom, we do provide more details about the low head height on our own website and advise that it should be for children over 5 really. The stairs do have stair gates top and bottom. You're right though, children absolutely love it! I look forward to meeting you all again sometime soon. Phil
